1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Buying new stuff for my ship on: January 12, 2014, 04:00:23 am
Credits are used for buying things from the Melnorme, such as upgrades to the technology available for fitting your ship at starbase orbiting Earth, or for information.  For buying things at Earth how many Resource Units you have determines whether or not you can get the item in question.  If I recall correctly a cargo pod costs 750 RU.  When it comes to guns, where your guns shoot depends on where you place them on your vessel.  First slot shoots forward, second shoots forward spread, 3rd shoots sideways, last shoots backwards.  Also if all of your equipment slots on your ship are full, you'll have to take something off, to add something.

Credits are earned by finding biological information or Rainbow World locations and trading them to the Melnorme.

Resource Units are earned by finding minerals on planets or moons, and returning them to the starbase at Earth.
2  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Enemies on: November 01, 2012, 11:08:31 pm
Does star control 2 have enemies in the world of business and government.

Are you asking about in real life enemies of the game itself?
3  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: blueprints for Earthling Cruisers on: November 17, 2011, 06:22:37 pm
Actually, that's another plot hole: the manual explicitly states that Burton was the only one qualified to pilot the Tobermoon, yet you clearly have a capable captain piloting the Cruiser you have in tow.

Capable? We don't know anything about how *good* the acting captain would have been. Considering how crippled that Avenger is, all the Cruiser pilot really needed to do is turn the ship in the Avenger's general direction and press the 'launch missile' button a few times.

Agreed, so long as you don't get unlucky in where you appear at the beginning of combat.  2 missle hits will do the job.  I don't see how it would be too difficult for a 2nd in command to be qualified as a captain, since they should need to be able to take over in the event of the Captain's death.

Would make more sense to me that not having an alien captain at the helm more to do with the controls being configured for the captain's species to have easy control.  Of course that's not really testable since the only real possiblity there would be an Human or an Androsynth learning to fly the other race's ship.  Then again there are physical differences in both physical strength & intellect between androsynth and humans which would lead me to believe that an Androsynth could probably pilot a Crusier more easily than a Human could pilot a Guardian.  The Syreen might also be able to learn to operate a Crusier, but since both Humans & Androsynth lack the mental abilities to use the Syreen call, neither could captain a Penetrator effectively.
4  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Eternal Doctrine for the win on: October 23, 2011, 01:26:57 am
He's right, he got off just in time and is going to be making that new game any day now with the "Gratuitous alien sex scenes...It's gonna be great!"

Would have made for an interesting "SC3" too bad it was a disappointment compared to SC2.  Wonder what would have been done to protect from his mental compulsion assuming that the Taalo device blew up with your ship & the Sa-Matra.
5  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Have to stop the Pkunk from entering Yehat space on: November 05, 2010, 05:21:19 pm
To make the most of the 2 times you can send the Pkunk back, wait until they are almost to the Yehat before getting them to return.  Also you can get Pkunk Furies from their homeworld at least twice.
6  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Which Star Control species is your favorite and why? Which annoy you? on: September 28, 2010, 06:13:33 pm
Least favorite: The Faz...I just don't trust those guys.

Weren't they annihilated by the Ur-Quan Kohr-Ah? I don't think you can dislike someone you have never met.

No I think they were slave-shielded by the Ur-Quan Kzer-Za.

The Yuli, Drall, and Taalo were killed by the Ur-Quan under Dynarri compulsoin, the Yuptar were destroyed by the Kohr-Ah as described by the Kzer-Za.  (Before we could stop them, they burned the Yuptar race's homeworld).  The Mael-Num were the ones who spoke "the words" that caused the Kohr-Ah to stop and explain, allowing the Kzer-Za to show up.  While the Kzer-Za and Kohr-Ah fought the Mael-Num, one eyed creatures, escaped, never to be found again.  That leaves the Faz, which is likely the race the Kzer-Za is referring to when they mention a race that they slave-shielded.

It's possible that the Faz may still be alive, slave shielded on their homeworld.  Maybe not.
7  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: How did you find out about UQM? on: November 25, 2009, 11:02:39 pm
Goooogle.  Grin  I think I was just nostalgic and searching for SC2...

Same here.
8  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Yehat Rebellion? on: November 25, 2009, 12:48:21 am
so I started the Yehat rebellion, but its been about 6 months game time and nothings happened. ):

The Pkunk flew torwards the split Yehat spheres of influence and then promptly disappeared. Does this mean they got eradicated? I remember reading on the wiki that a Pkunk is supposed to become queen, so is it now broken?

You can put off the Pkunk reaching Yehat space and disappering, twice.  It won't ultimately prevent them from going to the Yehat, but you can keep them around longer.  It's also possible to get gift ships from the Pkunk at their homeworld more than once.
9  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: That Ur-Quan Master: Weekly Webcomic on: September 19, 2009, 12:49:50 am
That was hilarious.  Next time I fight the Ur-Quan in battle, I hope I can keep that image out of my mind.  "Launch Fighters"
10  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Xbox Live Arcade on: June 10, 2009, 11:50:02 pm
I intend to get an XBox 360 sometime in the next few months, so if it could be an XBox game I would really love it.
11  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Should I have Recruited That Spathi? on: May 27, 2009, 06:32:21 pm
Hey guys, I left a Spathi on Pluto in a huff, couldn't convince him to join me.  Should I have tried harder?  I have heard from people saying that they use a Spathi ship for things such as pwning Kohr-Ah...  Just wondering if they picked 'em up from that first encounter.  Tongue

Yes you want to recruit him.  He's useful, particularily early in the game.  In trying to recruit him, remember that Spathi are abject cowards, and use it to your advantage in your dialog choices.  Don't act like you're scared of him, but don't pick a fight with him either.

Edit:  It may also be to your benefit to practice using the Spathi Eluder in combat, in SuperMelee.
12  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: new devices? on: May 17, 2009, 07:02:35 pm
I don't see why #3 would be hard to code. There are already devices that you can use on a system (Caster for Ilwrath, TPet for Quan) that change behavior for that system. Then you just need to write up a separate dialog tree for the VUX and voila! -- friendly VUX. And giving ships to the captain is easy enough to do.
That's true. I was a bit vague on what I meant by "hard quest" before obtaining the device, but it could probably be just as easy to find as any other device if you're looking in the right place.  However, some additional things that would need to be done include working out the details of the shipyard after you acquire the VUX vessels, which may or may not be easy, I'm not really sure.

The hard quest could be doable, simply have an infinite number of ships guard the device, and make it difficult to obtain what is needed to appease them, or distract them allowing you to land on the planet it's on and collect it.
13  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: I'm not smart enough for this game... on: April 02, 2009, 04:52:26 am
I already sent the Mycon to Organon.
I already gathered um, egg sac or whatever it is called in an effort to trade it for other Druuge items (Greenish later helpfully informed me only the sphere is helpful).
I don't think I've found the Chenjesu.
I started the civil war, and I don't see how that helps me win (unless it takes some time).
I also turned the Pkunk away repeatedly, although I don't see how that specifically helps me either.

Unless I'm supposed to be wrapping the device in an egg sac to make it a weapon, which doesn't work, I don't understand.

I am getting good with Super-melee whilst this goes on, I can't play tomorrow though.

To answer you in order, however spoilers are involved and tagged apropriately.  If you can get by without them, please do as you'll enjoy the game more.

14  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Net Melee Balance Mod: ALL ABOARD on: March 28, 2009, 02:24:24 am
In future versions of UQM will this mod be included?  If so, will we have the option to play without the mod if we so see fit?
15  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Mysteries of the Star Control Universe... theories much appreciated! on: March 08, 2009, 12:32:08 am
The Taalo were the only race that the Ur-Quan ever truly called "friend".  They were the only species where an Ur-Quan could be close to without the hunter inside them screaming "Kill the Interloper, rip out it's life."
