What Tiberian said.  Spathi are cowardly by nature, maybe Fwiffo is more cowardly than most Spathi, but until I see a member of the mythical "Black Spathi Squadron", finding a brave Spathi is about as likely as finding the Tooth Fairy, or Santa Claus.
Or a VUX that likes humans.
2  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Stardock looking to aquire Star Control rights. on: November 18, 2008, 06:16:07 am
Of note:
Quote from: the article
[. . .]the company would base its SC or MoO sequel off the second games in the respective franchises and not the poorly received third iterations.
Given that Paul and Fred hold the rights to everything in SC2 but the name, making any such game would, by definition, require their permission and full blessings.

So, I could see this going one of several ways. Maybe Stardock doesn't get the rights, or gives up. Maybe they get the rights to the name, and try to skirt the edge between "like SC2" and "enough like SC2 to get sued". Or maybe - just maybe - Paul and Fred work out something with Stardock and their corporate overlords that lets TfB and this other company make the new Star Control game as a team.

I'm hoping for that last one, personally.  Wink
3  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: UQM, Timewarp and ship rotation on: September 16, 2008, 10:47:16 am
How many volunteer artists who would be willing to draw over 400 images do you think we have available to us?

Can't you just tell the game to rotate the sprite X degrees?
The sprites have drop shadows.
4  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: What's with all the Starcon3 Hate? on: September 16, 2008, 10:46:45 am
Hi everyone. I have a confession to make.

I played SC3 before playing SC2.

Looking back, I do notice a substantial drop-off in quality. Most of the important plot points were on time release, the game contradicts SC2 canon on the Mycon and Orz, there's a big block of Fridge Logic at the end of the game. And the puppets were... not great.

That said, I still rather enjoyed it. Worse than SC2 does not necessarily mean unconscionable.
5  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: About The Time Mod & The De-Cleansing Mod on: September 15, 2008, 09:59:48 pm
Btw, what do u mean by Kor-Ah sphere will move anyway and all race will die anyway? Or I didnt understand your sentence " but all the races act as though they are")))))
The idea is, the races wouldn't be wiped out and the Kohr-ah would stay put, but if you talked to the ZFP for instance they'd still say the Kohr-ah won the war, the Kzer-za would tell you to run, etc.

EDIT: Again though, I'm not sure what will happen, because I don't know if it checks whether you passed the time limit, or whether you HIT the time limit.

If you want to test it, you could always park your ship in hyperspace and come back to your computer half an hour later  Grin

And as for the save files... from my understanding of how triggers work in the game, one of three things might happen:
  • Once you get past the date when the cleansing would occur, you are safe and can play on the original EXE to your heart's content
  • The Kohr-Ah sphere of influence starts moving as soon as you load up the game
  • The Kohr-Ah don't go on their rampage, but all the races act as though they are.
But I'm not familiar enough with the code to know which it is.
7  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Crew is limited? There is time limit? on: September 15, 2008, 08:43:22 pm
If you are compiling UQM yourself, the diff was the right thing to use, and the patch has been applied already. It changes the END time of the game, not the start time.

If, however, you are running the Windows version installed using the UQM installer, what you want is the ZIP file from that website, which you unzip in the folder where UQM was installed. It should have an executable that replaces uqm.exe, with the patch compiled in.

Hope this helps Smiley
8  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Crew is limited? There is time limit? on: September 15, 2008, 08:15:39 pm
1.) Crew doesn't have a "limit" per se, but if you buy more than a certain amount from the Starbase the cost per crew will increase to about double.

2.) Yes, the time limit is still in the game; it was part of the original and the UQM designers have a policy of "faithfulness until 1.0 release". That said, someone here (Death 999 I think?) made a "de-cleansing mod" that pushes the time limit back 99 years, so if that is more to your tastes you can use the alternate executable from his website.

I'm terrible at melee.  Grin
10  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: UQM Redux on: August 27, 2008, 05:46:12 pm
Something you should know (and was mentioned in the Remix thread): the current code will not support higher-res graphics, because the game actually uses pixel position to place stuff on-screen. So, you may have to modify the code itself (rather than just the content file) in order to get the new ship images to work.

But don't let me discourage you. If you're still up to it, I know a lot of people who've been waiting a long time for something like this. Smiley
11  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Peeru Fanfic discussion on: August 13, 2008, 08:15:19 am
It's back!  Grin

I should have commented on this the first time, but somehow missed doing so, and then I thought it wasn't going to get any more updates so I didn't want to necro it. But you did update it after all.

And good thing too, because this fic is awesome.

P.S. The battle sims remind me of when I save on the Encounter screen in case I lose. I thought that was pretty cool.
12  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Internals Question: String_Table on: August 05, 2008, 08:14:23 am
Greetings.

I'm currently at work on a UQM patch of secret purpose. However, in order to make it work I have a feeling I will need to use the STRING_TABLE data structure. And looking through the code provides no hint as to how to pull individual string values from the table once it has been loaded from the game content.

Could someone who knows this code provide a helping hand? You can reach me on AIM, or at "ecomono asperand gmail point com" if you don't use AIM.

Thanks!  Smiley

 Shocked

So the B.S.S. is real after all.

Wow. Watching this with definite interest now.

15  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: the Conspiracy (Or Races to Good to be False) on: April 12, 2006, 05:53:11 pm
Why wonder. Back in BCE (Befor Computer Era) we played these fantastic games on paper with pecils and books.
Ok...you all know what I am talking about...RPG. There are several Sci-Fi RPG out there that we can use to create the living SC universe we all crave. We have the source material on our computer... it just needs to be translated to a paper RPG system. MAybe I will invent my own...but it may detract from my current game.
I have what you want.
