1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: NEWS: Toys for Bob go for a new Star Control and need your help (READ!) on: January 15, 2009, 10:36:01 pm
ToysForBob news updated yesterday, saying their next game is not Star Control.

Those pileups can get pretty annoying after a while.  I remember making trips to get Furies in my no-starbase game.  Seemed to take forever sometimes.  Although not as bad as trekking through Mycon space for egg case fragments.

New video:

Kinda back-and-forth, we both have some embarrassing losses.  I lose by over 40 points in the end though.  I use a Slylandro Probe for the first time in MP, with good results (although AusME admits to having trouble facing that ship).

It seems to be fixed.  Now for some stupidity: observe as I take on Angus with a fleet entirely composed of Umgah Drones:

Ok, I told Google to delete it ( don't know how long that will take ) and put up a new one with the first 42 seconds chopped off.

Oh, that's bad... I'll have to cut that out in the future.  Do you want me to pull the video off Google?

How do you record your playing?  I've got to do that.

I wrote a patch that dumps pngs of each rendered frame, and then just ffmpeg -i screen%06d.png -vcodec zmbv shiver.avi

It's not great, since I can't do audio, the framerate isn't always consistent, and I haven't added a way to start or stop recording...

Also, on a side "interesting note" note:  The Slylandro Probe is equally as fast as a Androsynth Guardian in comet mode.  Not a good ship to pick vs. the probe, IMO.

I'm not a very good Guardian user, but wouldn't the bubbles work pretty well since the Probe is big and has to get to close range?

Also, apparently Google will take long videos, so I added that up in the original post (took a long time for Google to process it though).  Quality isn't very good though.

Well, Shiver was mostly kicking my posterior at UQM tonight, and then something amazing happened:

Click here to watch Ur-Quan-Wedge ZMBV version
Click here to watch Ur-Quan-Wedge-MPEG (MPEG version if you don't have ZMBV)
And here is a YouTube version

I didn't know androsynth could do that to Ur-Quan ships, and I guess neither did he.

Full match:

Apparently Google Video works for long videos.  Kinda crappy quality though

Hopefully someone will add a 16 or 32 bit ZMBV encoder to ffmpeg soon...

I tried to upload the match to YouTube as well, but
1) It didn't take my zmbv video, so I had to upload a much larger and crappier looking mpeg
2) After uploading the mpeg, it complained that it was too long (not too large, but too long).
9  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Melee league - register your interest! on: January 20, 2007, 10:51:06 pm
I would, but I probably shouldn't play from work (2-5pm USA on Friday = work for a lot of US people).

If the time or day changed, then I could possibly play (and record matches- though currently without audio- as well).

YouSendIt shows this as file not found... can someone who has this upload it somewhere like putfile.com?

I think the mnemonic meant something like:
Delta Tauri and Alpha Centauri are great.

Not sure though...

Yeah, that's the one I use nowadays.  Nice and easy to remember.

I used Fwiffo; with a little practice you can use him to take out probes with no damage, and a couple scratches here and there won't doom you as long as you are patient and decent with a fury.

Keep in mind, you will generally have to fight a LOT more than normal throughout the game, since you aren't fast enough to run away from anything.

I'm close to done with my Starbase-less run; haven't decided how I'm going to deal with the opposition at Zeta Hyades yet, and I still need the "distraction", but I'm set otherwise, and all my ships are fully crewed except one fury.  It has been fun actually having to slug it out with Ilwrath, Mycons, Kzer-Za and Kohr-Ah... even if it does get a little irritating when you leave a star system and have to fight off a huge swarm before you get a chance to enter Quasispace.

Thanks, that worked!
14  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Leopard's utterly complete guide...? on: March 17, 2006, 06:53:00 pm
As I recall (unless I'm thinking of something else), Leopard's guide was purely melee and had strategy for every ship versus every other ship in SC2.  Mostly, I want to look at the sections on ships I consider useless (or extremely inefficient) and get ideas for how I could use them, if I wind up handicapped to them in a multiplayer melee game...
15  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Leopard's utterly complete guide...? on: March 17, 2006, 02:01:17 am
Hello *extremely*!

From a long time lurker...

I remember reading this once, a long, long time ago, but now I can't find it anywhere.  The PoNaF link is broken, and what I think should be the correct link:

Is also broken.  Anyone know of somewhere this is still available?  I haven't had any luck with google on this one...

I don't really need it, of course, I've just felt like reading lots of SC stuff lately, especially since I started up a no starbase game this week and have been talking with people at work about it (lots of old SC2 players here).

It is really sad being slower than Mycon Podships...
