1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: I think this should be aded to the Wiki on: March 22, 2006, 08:40:37 pm
As long as almost no serious commercial games are ported to Linux (and Wine is still a pain), Windows will be a superior gaming platform.

Well, superior?  More like the only one available... the only reason it's so widely used is because most people are idiots and can't work Linux, it's too complicated for them.  Therefore, most games don't come out on those OS... if someone were to make a system as stable as Linux but with all the compatibility of Windows, and the user-friendliness, I'm sure Microsoft would swiftly be out of business.

These are sweet!  Any way I can use them in the game, or is that still work in progress?

Okay, nevermind I got them working... don't ask me how though.  Could be anything... from one of the settings I changed to something I might've done differently during the last re-install... in either case, it works now.

Think about it, mabey the arilou are useing us for somthing, just we never get to figure out what, now that you medtion it, they want to protect us... protect us from what? it cant be the ur-quan thats for sure mainly cause they dissapper after the slave shield went up over earth, this is one mystery we never get to figure out

this is what SC3 explained mostly

I know what it says in SC3 but I like to ignore SC3 as much as I can get away with, though I do use it in some of my theories on occasions.

While I know most of the SC fans discount SC3, I would never have discovered the SC series without it.  It was given to me as a present one year, I believe... anyhow, back to the point.  My personal opinion reflects fairly closely that of what SC3 illustrated as being their true intentions towards humanity.  Much of their behaviour seems manipulative... for instance, the Portal Spawner (or is it the HyperWave Caster, I can't remember?) that they give you so far into the game... why not just show up at the beginning and hand it to us then?  It seems to me like they only help us when it benefits them... if I may make a comparison to what I perceive the Airlou to be: the Taelons from Earth Final Conflict... they appear to us claiming to be friends, but at the same time are trying to manipulate us and shape us into tools to serve their purposes.

I just thought of something... could extracting the zips affect them somehow (I really don't see how)... but I did extract them to another directory outside the game folder so that I could listen to them individually.  They're quite good, and I'm kinda saddened that they stopped working...  Sad

To tell the truth, I and a handful of friends are currently working on a game of our own, and there was discussion about making an OS of our own in the future.  I think just out of spite we'll call it Doors and have as our slogan: "Why crawl through windows when you can just use Doors?" heh... it's just a funny idea right now, but you never know, maybe we'll follow through.  Look for it in the future.
