1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Chrous riff inspired by a UQM remix? on: February 19, 2022, 03:48:39 am
Hi all,

This track came up on my spotify discover playlist today.
The chorus part of it sounds SO familiar. I'm sure I've heard it in an extended mix of the melee SC2 track - or something else.
It's not in a precursor one, I checked - but maybe a different one.

Anyone else here the same thing? I wonder if they took the SC2 mix as inspiration.

Here's the track.

Here's the part that I really feel I've heard in an SC2 mix.
2  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Holy cow, check out this remix! on: February 19, 2022, 03:44:19 am
Hi all,

I was searching around for some other old SC2 remix that someone did, and I stumbled upon this.
I don't think I've seen this posted here before. Wow what a great mix!

Two great games with two great soundtracks perfectly combined!!
3  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Master list of mods on: January 07, 2022, 04:10:13 am
Hey all,

Seems to me we are well in need of a mod repository as the primary list of mods for UQM.
I know there is one at
Also one at

Both are out of date.

It seems mods are likely to be posted in here or other forums, then move down the list over time and become lost.
Wouldn't it be great to list these on the main page, since there are not many other things to up date on there these days?

At the least could we maybe get a sticky thread in here.
Even better would be an actual top level board for mods, that way there can be a thread for each mod and the author can post updates.
4  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase CafĂ© / Mass Effect: Gameplay feels like SC2 on: December 14, 2007, 03:36:32 am
Hi Guys,
Have been playing Mass Effect on the Xbox 360 - and something gives me the feeling these guys definitely played SC2.
If I were to ever expect a proper sequal to SC2 to come out, the format Mass Effect has used would be perfect. It doesn't have hyperspace travel or space battles, but it's plot progression and open-ness is not something I have seen in a game for a long time.

You can talk to people and choose conversation tree's like SC2, you can land on bases and explore them on foot, doing sidequests that can reside entirely on one space station or planet, or require you to investigate different solar systems. You can get into gun fights with people. You can jump in your ship and explore the galaxy solar system by solar system, investigating each planet, mining minerals, and can land in a lander and drive around and find energy signatures and other things.

Has anyone played it? I think its great Smiley An excellent view of what a REAL SC3 could be like with modern tech.

Moderator edit: merged this posting into this preexisting thread.

I did this one a while ago. Was just playing with upscaling the samples on the original.
Thought it came out quite well..

Still not happy with the lead voice - just can't find a decent counterpart for the old one Riku used. the Riku-synth?

I have since scrapped the wet sounding bass and given it a more low rumbling akin to the original

Took me a while also to get the appregio effect in the intro that the old mod file had to sound faithful to the original

Any other ideas for it? I would have liked to use the old bell sample from the mod file, altho u can still hear it in the intro, its too low quality to use for the rest of the track. It just gets lost!
Maybe I will give the more techy sounding replacement an echo or reverb to sound more like a bell.

Or rather a Re-sample.
Been playing with my new sampler and midi gear and managed to crank out this while learning.

What do you think?

Just saw this on slashdot. Everyone tell your friends, family, and pets to email the address listed so we can get a real sequal made.

Games: Hope for Another Star Control Sequel?

Pluvius writes "A recent post on GameSpot's Rumor Control blog suggests that there may be a chance for a new entry in the classic Star Control series in the foreseeable future. It would be developed by Toys for Bob, the creator of the first two games in the series, and it is implied that the company already holds the rights for the franchise. Quoting from the article: 'But maybe, just maybe, if enough of you people out there send [Alex Ness, producer] e-mails requesting that Toys For Bob do a legitimate sequel to Star Control 2, I'll be able to show them to [Toys For Bob parent company] Activision, along with a loaded handgun, and they will finally be convinced to roll the dice on this thing.'"
