But rumour has it that my grandfather used to make something not quite unlike that, which I may or may not have had the questionable privilege of tasting.

heh, do you mean "the drink that has mostly apples in it"? the one that can corrode metal? Wink

bu seriously, i just meant mixing the alcohol, and although there are numerous recipies on the internet many of them aren't very strong so before i go out and buy the ingredients i like to get personal opinions. And although drinks do vary from place to place what usually varies is the quality - vodka, tequila or gin will usually be the same, no?

Also, even though the combat is now fully 3-dimensional, it's still the same old 2-dimensional grid that you move around on.

actually that's the thing i liked most about III - the ability to plan ahead in a chess like manner - and that's what pissed me the most about IV - that it didn't have that option. does V have it?

pardon me for my ignorance but what is deus ex (1 or whatever) ?
You can always answer your own questions with google or wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deus_Ex
Just seeing the box art makes me wanna play it again.

oh, don't worry, i do that as soon as somebody (you in this case) mentions a name, i was simply looking for your personal perspective

At least for me, AVP2 caused more of the "oshit oshit oshit my scanner beeping its coming closer it just jumped out of the drain! AARGH" scariness whilst System Shock caused more of the "The walls are moaning and I can hear one of those deranged cybrogs stalking around somewhere yelling for her children" scariness.

yeah, i remember this time my brother started playing AVP 1 and he didn't see the Alien movie  for a long time and he was looking at this face hugger and thinking "what the @#$% is this stupid and sorry thing?" and suddenly it jumped him and he LITERALLY fell over backwards with the chair from fright! "snicker, snicker"

Vania:

tanx, i'll chechk into those as well...

since i just got Heroes of Might and Magic V - has anyone solidified an opinion about the game?  i adored 3 and hated 4 to give a clue of what i'm looking for.

sound intersting, but i'm a bit leery about collectibles right now, maybe in a couple of years, who knows? anyway, how's titan quest?

"scribbling furiously"
i'm writing, i'm writing! keep it coming!  Smiley
i'm reminded of a certain spongebob (yeah, yeah, i know, what can i say i love cartoons...) episode:

"self customization!
genious!
he's softening the ground!
of course!"  ....

Shiver:
i started playing Magic: the gathering around 3 ed. and stopped around mirage/visions when i didn't have the time and money anymore. so i don't think it's likely i'll go into another collectible  card game soon. i am intrigued, though as to how a card game is combined with a computer game?

anyway, the game doesn't have to be free.oh, and by new i mean from about diablo 2 onward (not very new, i know).

EDIT:
Bioslayer:
BTW, i noticed you said on another topic that AVP 2 is the best FPS ever. i played AVP 1 and i know that half way through the game i couldn't play anymore what with me getting so jittery about those damn aliens jumping me. if you'll compare that (or AVP 2) to system shock  2 which would you find scarier?

i haven't been playing new games for quite a long while (old computer, studies, gf, etc.)
any good recommendations?

That's a strange thing I just noticed, why is a nuclear war-head called a "Peacekeeper"?

hehehe.....
well, mainly because after you drop it everything is peaceful for a while... and then you have to drop another one.
10  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: SC myths... on: September 02, 2006, 01:48:49 pm
wow, has this discussion gone off topic or what  Smiley
just for the record i think that the sizes in BOTH the melee and practice (SC1) sizes are inaccurate and i think that logic should dictate the ship sizes. therefore, what with the ur-quan being nomadic and all it seems logical (to me at least) to have a dreadnought a 1 km long and a much smaller scout - i should think that a 3-5 m sounds logical.

does anybody have a favourite homemade mixture?
the kind of one that really knocks you off your feet?
failing that, just something with a mild buzz and a nice taste to it?

EDIT: noone??

Humor can be about breaking patterns. Maybe the wikipedia article can shed some light.

from what i read, it would seem that humour is tied very intracately with language and language developed fairly late, in fact i would think language developed during or after the period of time where evolution began to affect us less as a species so it would seem it helped a lot in devolpment of lingual skills but is not a direct survival trait in own right.
14  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Re: Any Starport players here? on: August 19, 2006, 07:05:50 am

Now the ones I wonder about are appreciation of music, and humour.

Edit: perhaps these serve as a reward to stimulate the recognition of patterns, thereby helping the evolution of intelligence.

i would definately agree with you about the music but i don't see how you think humour is about pattern recognition?
