The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / What was Star Control 1 like?
|

It seems like we talk about how bad SC3 was more than we talk about it's much better prequel, Star Control 1.
I have never played it, and I was wondering what it's gameplay and graphics were like. If I'm not mistaken, it was for several different computers and the Sega Genesis, so in some screenshots the graphics look like they'd be on an Atari 2600 and others look as good as UQM.
I know the game is set in the first Ur-Quan war that the Alliance is supposed to have lost, but I'm guessing in this game you can actually win. As far as I know there was no deep storyline or alien communication like there was in SC2. But I think you still gathered resources and went to other planets to mine them?
I'm sure many other people besides me would like to know more about SC1.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Re: Anyone got a Spathi avatar? (Bonus if animated.)

There's this one from PONAF: I know it's rediculously huge, but it shrinks once you use it as your avatar. I considered using this for myself at one time. I don't think it's quite what you're looking for, but there's also this spinning Spathi ship from the same website: sadly, it's from Star Control 3 and doesn't look a whole lot like the Star Control 2 version . Edit: Oh wait, you wanted an avatar for other forums. I have no idea if it will shrink elsewhere.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: Trouble with UQM 0.6.2

Goodness, I did decrease the sound quality and graphics resolution, but it made the screen really tiny and I couldn't even start super melee because it wouldn't let me select a ship. even weirder, the default setting for the bottom ship roster was awesome cyborg and the top was Human Control. also, I still have version 0.5 on my computer, which is working perfectly fine, except for the fact that the top ship roster is permanantly set on Human control. However, when you start a battle the computer plays the second player like it's on awesome cyborg. version 0.5 was working fine until I got version 6.2. I would just delete both of them and just download 0.5 to see if that works, but version 0.5 doesn't seem to be available for download anymore. I guess my computer is really messed up ?

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Re: Discuss: Should SC1 be a download for the Wii virtual console?

Actually, The Wii has games from the Sega Genesis, Turbografx 16, Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo, and Nintendo 64. MSX and Neo Geo are currently not available on it.
And yes, I would LOVE to see both Star Control 1 and Starflight on the Virtual Console. For some reason Nintendo is currently releasing games most people have never heard of instead of Famous games like Super Mario Brothers 3, so I think both these games could have a good chance if anyone at Nintendo actually knows about them and they can get the rights.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Wierd Worlds: Return to Infinite Space compatibility

Ok, I'm sure you're getting tired of me posting topics asking whether such and so is compatible with my old computer or not, but this should be my last one.
Anyway, I dowloaded the demo of Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space, and it worked surprisingly well on my computer. The title screen slowed me down a bit, what with all the ships blowing each other up, but it was managable. The only annoying thing in the actual game I found was that the mouse cursor had a bad frame rate, so it was hard to tell where it was going to go. I got used it, and decided to buy the full version.
However, once I actually read more about the full version, I found that my computer is a lot under the minimum requirements. The demo worked well, so would the full version work just as well, despite my computer being under the minimum requirements?
