Voices are optional in The Ur-Quan Masters.

Though option to turn them off isn't implemented yet, but it will be there eventually.

All those screenshots seem to be in window mode, but I really hope it can be played in full-screen mode.

Ofcourse it works also fullscreen, we developers just are often used to windowed mode as it makes debugging kinda easier Wink

edit: Also comment to additional features, we aren't going to add anything gameplay-affecting or otherwise major features to our stable release, it will be more or less straight port. After it's done and if there's enough interested developers for modding the game (many of us core team wants it just to work as it was in 3DO/PC originally), all that kind of stuff can begin.

PC gamepad/joystick support will be included (already has some code for it but its not fully functional yet).

To at least make the graphics look smooth, sort of like how it looked on the TV with a 3DO - not how it looks in DOS - blocky messy yucky =/

Oh and some kind of scanlines to emulate a TV screen would be awesome !:)

There's already optional OpenGL mode which supports bilinear filtering and scanline emulation Smiley

We haven't implemented keyboard configuration yet, but if you know C enough for playing around it yourself, look at src/sc2code/libs/input/sdl/input.c. Though that file is more or less messy and needs to be partly rewritten at some point.

OpenGL usage is optional, though recommended if using TNT2 class gfx card or better (its faster than pure 2d mode then). With OpenGL, things like scaling game's 320x240 surface to screen resolution (640x480 normally) can be done hardware-accelerated, like some fullscreen effects (few different kind of fades currently). Also bilinear filtering and 'scanlines' can be done with it to make things look less pixelated.

Game works internally almost completely as 2d using software blit operations and code starts to differ more between "pure 2d" and OpenGL code only within page flip function, where ogl does upload current surface to texture and draws it as one big quad, etc.

Currently game fits to around 180M, but it's still missing all the movies (but also packaging which would make it somewhat smaller).. I'd guess final size might be something around 200-300M which is a bit big but there's not much we can do for it without sacrificing quality too much (except making alternative version without speech/movies/etc for slower connection users, which we'll prolly do). Also it's using 3DO musics as default (but user can choose PC version too and prolly later some remixes).

We aren't going to include any kind of content editors but we'll keep using common formats so for example graphics, music, speechs, and so on should be relatively simple to replace if being careful. Gameplay modifications will be much harder to do as old code isn't really flexible at all.

Dang, that was fast, thanks!  Shocked

I like how the site is xhtml validated...  want to test out your graphics skills next?  I'm lazy and I want a "button" for sc2.sourceforge.net... can you make one for the site to share with me and others?

I tried just shrinking down the logo on the site to 88x31 and the text just became too small  :-/

Hmm, I think I'll try, but not right now.. got exams this friday and I really should try to prepare for them instead of doing this stuff Wink Though I'm not a graphician even if I can use photoshop decently Grin

Hi Mika,

Definitely a spiffy site! Got a favor to ask though... can you change the url for The Pages of Now & Forever from star-control.net to http://www.star-control.com/   ??  Thanks! Grin

Okay, done.

edit: forgot to ask could you change PNF to point at our website instead of project page but seems as you've already done it, nice Smiley

Just testing.. changed one thing manually, hopefully it didn't break anything Wink
116  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: win95? on: November 04, 2002, 01:46:11 pm
Noone of us has got 95 anymore so testing it is a bit problem, but we'll try to aim it works there too, atleast for our stable release, if just possible. Though driver support and such are prolly severely outdated for 95 and it might cause problems.

Would you believe if I said it's my first website in many many years, and first one actually ever published anywhere Smiley I'm currently having a class at university about web stuff so decided to combine sc2 and real work, and i'm pleased with the results.

Nope, it's just some other nice fan-made stuff.. we are going to use original 3DO / PC version intro.
