The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / A Technical Question about Melee
|

So, I'm nowhere near a programer. I know nothing about C++. I am barely competent on Photoshop, and I know very little about server capacity and whatnot so this question may seem silly... but:
Currently, in order to net melee, you have to give your IP address to another player who types it into their game and then you connect and play together, right?
Is it an expense matter or something different which keeps us from having a site that we can all link into in order to find people to play against and which hosts the games for us -- kind of like a Gamespy or the thing they have for Diablo?
Is this a prospect that is in the works? Or will the "search for people on the chat client and then give them your IP address in order to play" thing be a forever thing for net melee for UQM?

Thanks and thanks again.
I will look into it.
And on a side note, I did a search of the forum for other such threads. I read the rather long one which hit on basically the same stuff before going off on a tangent about rainbow worlds and the precursors in general. Good stuff.

Bah! "Official" reports. They are nothing compared to my wild conspiracy theories!
In all seriousness, though, I would like to know what TFB said about the Mycon, but not until after I come up with some ridiculous ideas of my own. How would I find their confirmations?

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Mycon Dialogue

I've been running into podships for the last three days now, and it seems like almost every time I bump into them, they say something new. There is something interesting that has piqued my interest about their dialogue. When they say things that sound like a "non-Mycon" is speaking -- like their creators, for instance. There's the bit where someone... else says something about going to a transporter pad and another line about how they should deal with anomolies...
I just find it fasinating. Does anyone know of a link where I can see all their dialogue listed on a page so I can pore over it for a while and make wild and unsubstantiated connections to the precursors and finally come to the conclusion once and for all what the Mycon are all about?
I'd be happy to share my ultimate enlightenment with the board once I figure it all out.

With some minor changes and some additional content, you can keep both storylines working within the cannon.
Since the eventual outcome of the Druuge is not known (nor cared much about), it would be very easy to add another chapter whereby the Captain losses his power (either through Leniin or some other form of uprising) and has to band together with the Alliance in order to take those nasty Druuge out -- offering the Druuge Hauler to the Alliance as a peace offering for the Captain's working with the Druuge. The final chapter(s) could include a massive war between the Alliance and the Druuge.
