1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Amiga_Nut is here. on: September 06, 2016, 09:32:55 am
This post is mostly for the benefit of SVBD, Fossil, McMartin and the other devs who may remember me. Hey guys! I'm sorry I never got around to finishing your animations. Most of the fault is in me, that I was being lazy and moved on to other things I deemed more important at the time. But part of the fault also was some of the officious bastards resident in the IRC like Shiver. The banning of the Thraddash from tournaments. The way new players just joining the channel weren't handled more gently, or cultivated to stay and become permanent parts of the group. The atmosphere just made me want to give up. I'm sorry I didn't try harder. I love you guys; not that even now, I really know you all that well, but I love what you've done.

In my departure, we've lost track of each other. /shipanims is no longer there... has it been deleted completely?
I've never been a frequent forum user, and prefer e-mail.  My address has changed slightly: metallic_medium@yahoo(dot)com

I welcome the future of Star Control.

Good stuff Luki... Had a long read and a long laugh.

No one told me that Tsing had some usable models posted to your site.

So far giving the Shofixti a thumbs up.... with you ask Tsing to contact me?

Thanks!
3  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: How did you find out about UQM? on: December 02, 2009, 12:40:51 am
The original Star Control was one of my favorite Amiga games. Back in 95, A friend who owned the 3DO invited me over to play SC2. There was a large group of people in his house playing an impromptu tournament. I was unaware there was a sequel until that point. Years later, I was looking for an emulator to replace my then totally broken 3DO and found the UQM project. I had never even visited an IRC channel or participated in a Internet forum before. I guess I hadn't found anything I thought was worth the bother until now.

I believe the key to maintaining a strong player base for UQM in the future; will be the addition of a connection lobby to the software.

(going back under my rock)

I hate you all.
5  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Modeling Head Hunt on: June 17, 2009, 11:17:16 am
Hiya guys! Sorry, it's been a while since I visited the IRC channel with any frequency and even longer since I've posted on the forum. I'm still planning to release more Star Control ship info videos soon. The three main reasons it has been such a looooong process for me are:

1. Very little usable models have been donated to the project by (You Guys).

2. Since quality is paramount to any CGI I create, the process takes more time than I have to spare "Not being paid" for a laborious endeavour.

3. Rather than spend the time making all my own ships... I really wanted to pool the resources of talented artists who have already created such wonderful Star Control material.

The HEAD HUNT is on!

1- (Most wanted): Kris Hauser
 I really love the Supox.

2-Barak
http://starcontrol.classicgaming.gamespy.com/sc3d/images/artists/barak/

3- Toni
http://starcontrol.classicgaming.gamespy.com/sc3d/images/artists/Toni/

4- Gabooz
http://starcontrol.classicgaming.gamespy.com/sc3d/images/artists/Gabooz/

Anyone able to help (find, contact, get models from) these people are urged to do so.

Keep in mind that I'm looking for the actual MODEL files containing the geometry of the SC ships. I'm not interested in images or scene files unless the images are maps for objects.
Anyone successful in this head hunt will have my sincere gratitude and will be rewarded with a (realistic) amount of custom CGI for any purpose they choose. This means YOU!

As always thanks for your time and have a great day!
6  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: December Duplicates Tournament on: December 01, 2008, 11:29:29 pm
Perhaps you should consider something like:

Dupes tournament except for Thraddash Torch. You can have only one of them but using it means that you're a sniveling swine!

Probably won't be able to attend this time. I'm sure the four other melee players won't miss me much. Tongue

Don’t know why I didn’t notice this thread before and I don’t have any intelligible suggestions or comments to add. So, I’ll just say:

“FREEKIN SCHWEET!”    (If it ever happens)

WOW my 200'th post!  Shocked

That is something since I don't ever really blog or post anywhere else.

14  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: UQM Redux on: August 27, 2008, 07:16:42 pm
Something else to think about is the fact that the ships rotation and zoom are done through several frames, and not by sprite rotation. Also, if you look at the rotation animation, you will see that the ships are drawn in such a way that the highlight always comes from the same direction. Even if it were possible to modify the UQM code to use sprite rotation. The realism of the original design would be diminished. There is nothing stopping you from redoing the original graphics. However you may be surprised by the tiny resolution you'd be working with. I'm not sure if you could easily change that. I think the technical aspect of such a modification would be prohibitive.

Shiver, EP: " There are none so blind as those who will not see."

Quote
By "a few", you must mean "one".
Actually, that's not true anymore. I won't speak for them. If they see this thread they will speak up for themselves, hopefully.
