196  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / FRONTIER ELITE on: June 19, 2007, 01:42:04 am
Without a doubt: Frontier Elite (series) is at the top of the list. Unfortunately almost all the games had graphics to poor to attract any new generation players. However, a new and better PC port is available “First Encounters” Http://www.frontier.co.uk/games/firstencounters/  about the game: This is still one of the most robust space simulation games ever created. The player has total environmental freedom to seamlessly fly around, land on almost anything and explore the galaxy. You can upgrade equipment on your ship, or buy a different one.
I have a special copy of this game, (not available online) that I will share with anyone really REALLY interested.
(Amiga_Nut’s TOP games)
First Encounters
UQM
Zelda / All
Carrier Command
Lords Of Chaos
Dungeon Master
M.A.M.E.
197  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Super Melee with Paul Reiche III on: June 14, 2007, 11:48:29 pm
First, let me say that it is not my intention to brag. I almost never post on the forum and thought people might want to know what happened. I did not mean to “cut in line”. Keeping in mind that I am an intermediate player compared to the titanic skills of other #uqm-arena patrons; I knew it would be a fun match for Paul. Far better than pasting his entire fleet with one ship! If it peeved EP a little,  Angry well that’s just an added bonus in my book. It was PR3’s decision to use my IP. ---Details of the match I can remember: PR3 used Pkunk, Yehat, Kor-AH, Thraddash and Androsynth. (All I can remember) Things I did to “Take it easy”… In playing Ur-Quan vs. his Yehat; I didn’t use fighters. In general: I tried not to run away, and rather kept moving behind his line of fire. I avoided “cheesing” at all costs. It was a fun match! I do love you guys! So if you’re jealous, eat your heart out!  Grin
198  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Super Melee with Paul Reiche III on: June 14, 2007, 01:21:23 pm
Well, when I joined #uqm-tfb I had no idea that I would be able to play one of the creators. As soon as I noticed discussion about starting a game; I just posted my IP and waited for a connection. LOW AND BEHOLD... Shocked  BANG! And at the moment PR3 said: “I am connected” - I knew. Grin.. It was a 180 point (or so) game. I won with 40+ points left. I did take it easy a bit. I am sure it was an enjoyable game. “PR3: Man, I am shakin -- that was really fun!  Thanks!” ---I am sorry I was not ready to record the match… Like I said, I wasn’t expecting this.  Cheesy

200  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Net Play............................ on: January 09, 2007, 08:41:29 pm
Well, first, I really appreciate all the responses to this thread. I don’t know what solution is best. I agree with the statement that “temporary solutions often become permanent ones” I know there is someone out there ready and able to code a solution. I thank Novus and Meep-eep for their effort in responding this thread. All I can do is offer money or CGI to the person or who makes my dreams of escorting several unsuspecting SC2 players to their deaths, a reality. Best of luck to you all,

201  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Net Play............................ on: December 31, 2006, 08:33:27 pm
So how about a software solution built in the game? Could a subroutine be written to detect ready players and manage connection? Anyone thinking about it?

Although I know what IRC is, I have never been on it before.  Undecided  It all seems like too much trouble.
202  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Net Play - Lobby on: December 30, 2006, 11:05:15 pm
I know many people out there are willing and ready to play net matches… Of course that means we need to start some sort of list. Like

Perhaps the sys-admins could set something like this up? The “UQM Net Players List” Huh
Unless someone has a software solution in the works.

203  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Ilwrath Silhouette on: December 30, 2006, 11:53:03 am
Ok first… Novus, your first post in this thread scared the holy crap out of me! I had no idea it was like that. In my humble opinion, the modifications you were talking about basically destroy the honor of the original game, don’t you think? I guess when you pull back all the lotus petals, you’ve broken the flower!
Ilwrath Silhouette: I think a good to master player can pretty much tell right where the Illwrath ship is most of the time anyway. If not just for a really good sense of zoom proximity, there are the stars winking out sometimes when the Illwrath passes over. It’s obvious the silhouette idea would only be advantageous in net play; and certainly not as bad as always knowing where the planet is.
204  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Re: What do you get when you cross an Ilwrath with a Herald from SC3 on: December 29, 2006, 08:58:07 am
Ha Ha! You got to love British Sci-FI.  ;DTom Baker
205  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Re: SC2 on X-Box Live(tm)/ 3DO tricks!!! on: December 29, 2006, 12:56:43 am
The only problem is we are addicted to the 3DO version. There is a dispute amongst our little group about the timing in melee. Although the PC version seems not to bog down as easily, there does seem to be a slight kinetic difference in game play. At least to a few of our longtime players… (please vote everyone!)
206  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / 3DO Jedi mind tricks!!! on: December 28, 2006, 05:42:26 pm
Well to be legal you must first obtain a SC2 3DO game disk. Then create an ISO 9660 with a program like Nero. (I think default settings will work but you might need a CD-Rom drive that supports RAW mode.) And before you waste your time I would suggest burning a copy and attempting to play it in your 3DO first. (Tested good on both the Panasonic and Goldstar 3DO’s) (This is also a great way to recover good game-play from a scratched disk!) If it works you can now use a program like Hexplorer to edit the ISO file. Now there’s just the simple task of going through hundreds of thousands of pages of hex until you find the right values and change them! Wink There is talk among my friends to create a DOS SC2 ISO trainer program that will enable you to tweak all attributes of ship performance and then save the ISO with the new settings. (Viva geek mutants!) I think they’re just plain nuts, but we all do LOVE our SC2 tournaments!
p.s. If we can’t come up with something usable soon; (or give up), I will tell how we supercharged the VUX ships in a SC2 ISO.
207  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / SC2 on X-Box Live(tm)/ 3DO tricks!!! on: December 28, 2006, 08:52:41 am
Let's stop faking and make this happen people!!! I think we can get Star Control 2 on X-box Live(tm) in no time! We need instant satisfaction! I’m hearing allot of talk about “tweaks” to the ships, and of course “The real Star Control 3”. I think that great games like SC really suffer from limited support! Sure there are mutants like us that love the hell out of these games, but don’t you think that if SC2 sold more than 10,000 copies we would already have the Toys for Bob SC3! The likely success of a port for SC2 tournament play on a console like the PS3 or X-Box is a good bet!
Gems for those who care: You can play a burned CD-Rom in your 3DO! That means you can actually edit the ISO in a Hex-Editor! (We did it) I am the proud owner of a VUX ship that will out thrust a SPATHI! “Talk about a smack down!” Mail me to find out how..
More gems coming soon…..
