76  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Concerning Thraddash and net melee on: October 27, 2007, 08:35:14 am
I've grown weary of attempting to voice a rational argument why the Traddash should not and never be excluded from melee matches. After watching the video; it occurred to me that (if I recall correctly) the original contention was that the Traddash was a worthless ship, which of course it's not. When were the gears switched on that one? o_O As for ruthlessly boring matches... Several ships can do that including: Androsyn, Spathi and Slylandro. Whatever… I find myself not caring so much anymore.

Thanks for the advertisement!

I can maybe help you out here. The thing I would do in this case is image map a sphere and then bake the craters and detail onto the object. You would then have images with the polar scaling intact and ready for use as you said. I could whip up a few in Lightwave.  The 3DO image maps have this effect but they were really low quality. I suppose you could use them, but I'm thinking why? Also, is color the only map you’re doing? Do you want bump maps as well?

Here's one I prepared earlier! This is an auric moon lit from one direction only.

Yes to all...  Sorry about the clumsy scale.

OK. Here is a dir I set up for the completed Low-poly models...
Get them now because the link will not last forever...
Watch this folder for the next few days as I will be adding new models often.
ModelBucket

Will you be zooming in to the ships a lot? I'm trying to figure out what kind of detail will best fit your needs. My target has been between 1000 & 2500 polygons. Let me know if that number should be somthing else.

This is cool... I was able to open and view all the models. Great work in low poly!
The Androsyn has only 1000 faces. o_O not bad at all! If it would help.... I'm working on models as well, and could easily provide you with low poly versions. Since modeling takes time to do, I know I could use more help.

Anyway looking good.  Grin

Nifty stuff!     So soft.... So squishy... A truly spathi motif.

First of all: You are wrong about my playing style. It's a simple stupid prejudice based mostly off the fact that I wouldn’t bow to your bossiness.
Second: The only reason I flame this thread is because I heartily disapprove of the banning of a ship based on an oafish construct.
Third: The only silly tournaments I’m banned from are yours. No big loss since I’ve already created another community. HAHAHAHAHA
Fourth: it’s going to be very funny when you see how I get my revenge against you.
(laughing last)

Super stupid idea alert!

*Stamps fail all over this.*

Wake up and smell the future! Have a little vision will ya? The implications of what this thread is about are going to be a big part of the future of gaming. And yes; we old relics shake ourselves out of our dusty holes to doubt and mumble at an evolution that has surpassed our fancy and comprehension. It need not be so I think.
87  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Poll: Do you want/think that the Sequel(TM) is transitionless first-person? on: September 14, 2007, 06:56:32 pm
I really liked the Frontier Elite series, and I think it would greatly benefit from a modern revision. However, I'm not sure how well the Star Control flavoring would incorporate into that. SC2 was based loosely off of Star Flight I think. You were able to take your main ship down to most planets and mine with a surface vehicle, but it wasn’t seamless. Communication with aliens only took place in space and was rather limited. I forget…Was mining a big part of Frontier? Anyway- I disagree with most on this. I think the actual game play of a new SC COULD adopt some aspects from great games like First Encounters and also Carrier Command. CC took the whole remote vehicle idea to a new level. Perhaps the same aspect could be applied to the escort ships in the next SC? Meh… It’s all supposition anyway.

Super realistic space simulation in a seamless environment should get more interest.
This is by no means a bad idea.
88  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: Logitech Precision USB Game Controller on: September 11, 2007, 12:58:30 am
You may solve the issue by deleteing the melee.cfg file. (UQM will make a new one at startup)

In Windows XP, the melee.cfg file is in your Documents and Settings folder under the account where UQM was installed. It's in a normallly hidden folder called "Application Data". The path to the file should look like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\(account)\Application Data\uqm

Where (account) = your system administrator name or whatever name you normally log into when using Windows XP.

Hope that helps.

Ok.... First thing... what version of DirectX are you running? Have you updated that along with your Vcard drivers?

Latest DirectX available here.
