You're doing great, it looks like! Quick question though; do you have any solid ship design concepts down? If you do, I'd really like to know what they are.

Just to point out, but the link to my 4th video in the first post has got an extra HTTP thrown in at the beginning of it, breaking the link. Should prolly fix that.
3  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: FOT FACE OFF - July SuperMelee Tournament on: July 28, 2007, 10:30:57 pm
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I cannot show up for the tournament today. In fact, there very well might be a chance I won't be able to show up for the rest of the games, since I'm going on a vacation for a preeeety indefinite amount of time, and I'm not sure if I'll have computer access during my vacation or not. If I do, I'll probably be able to attend the other tournaments, but for now, I have to miss it.

See you later, folks.

16. Yeah.
5  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: [[CGI for UQM]] -No news yet on: July 25, 2007, 03:02:24 am
So we can suggest what another ship model might do? Well, if that's the case...

Here's one that I think would work well for the Mmrnhrm transformer: Transformer flies in quickly in Y-form, then transforms into X form. X form drifts through space for a while, turning around quickly while slowing down, and proceeds to fire off its lasers. It then turns back into its Y form, launches some missiles, and flies away.

... but then these fictional universes often try to be godless, which makes no sense. IMHO designing a godless universe is a bit like growing a bag of dorritos.
I'm confused. What do gods have to do with anything? Huh
Pretty sure I explained the argument well enough. But for you, nevermind. Just forget I said anything.
I don't get it either, okay? You really didn't explain it enough.

I mean, seriously. I'm just looking at your post and I'm like, "... Wha? What do you mean 'godless'? I mean, there's no definite proof that there's a god that watches over us, but of course, we couldn't have appeared here without explanation or reason, could we? Are you talking about the religion of alien races? Because if that's the case, there's plenty of aliens that have Gods. No proof they exist, but they're believed in. So what are you talking about with this whole 'godless' thing and saying most fictional universes are 'godless', when I can clearly think of several gods in Science Fiction that are in different universes? Am I over thinking this? Will my brain explo- *BOOOOOM*"

So, uh, yeah. I definitely agree with the rest of your ideals (Except for your newbie bashing. Come on.), I just don't understand your whole 'Godless' thing.
7  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Re: Retro Remakes Top 100 Games on: July 23, 2007, 01:11:31 am
I just checked and the top 10 is there. UQM is not in any of them.

That said, Deus Ex came in at a well-deserved 11.

Also, hilarious rage at lack of UQM/SC2. Yes it's an awesome game, but the problem is the fanbase is somewhat small. The initial learning curve is more of a steep cliff, and it's one of those games where you're screwed unless you're really inquisitive and lucky, or you know what to do. Or maybe both.

I knew it. SC2 just isn't publicized enough. You're also completley right about the steep learning curve. Took me a while to figure out a good strategy to finish the game.

I predict UQM Will either show up on that list with a rank below 5, or not show up at all. On one hand, the game is awesome, deep, and has really fun battles, but on the other hand, next to nobody has heard of it, or at least nobody I'm aware of outside of this forum.
9  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: What videos? CGI For UQM on: July 15, 2007, 03:20:55 am
That bubble demo was seriously awesome.
10  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Re: Spherical gameplay on Stardust HD on: July 14, 2007, 03:54:19 am
No. The melee arena is topologically equivalent to a torus, not a sphere.

Mmmm... Donut.
11  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Official Unofficial Soundeffect Addon pack thread. on: July 13, 2007, 03:32:37 am
A fair few of these sounds are from RPG Maker <_>.

Garr. You caught me. Yeah, especially the Arilou uses RM noises. This pack uses a lot of sound effects I found around my computer, using sounds from SSBM, RM2k, Vega Strike, Civ4... ETC, ETC. Hence why it's unofficial.

Elerium, the sound effects in that pack are quite good, though some seem a bit long. Especially the Orz and Melnorme ones are quite long, but it's nothing a quick trim can fix.
12  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Official Unofficial Soundeffect Addon pack thread. on: July 12, 2007, 10:32:23 pm
Right. So, for those interested in finding, downloading, suggesting, and updating the sounds of the Ur Quan Masters' Melee sound effects, feel free to help out! I've already searched all through my computer and used various sound effects to assemble both a template and addon pack that replaces almost all the melee sound effects of each ship. I chose what seemed to either correlate the best with the ship, or simply didn't change it at all, since I thought the sound might hold a certain essence that can't really be replicated... Yeah, but anyway, here's the list of sounds I think I replaced badly, and can very freely be replaced by anybody, and sounds that simply aren't replaced at all.

 Unofficial Sound Effect Replacement Pack

Replaced sounds that need improvement:
Chmmr Secondary
Mmrnhrm Primary for X-form
Both Mycon Sounds
Orz Marine attack and death sounds
Umgah Sounds
Utwig Shield sounds, probably?
Possibly the VUX limpet sounds
Yehat Secondary

Unreplaced Sounds:
Druuge Secondary
Pkunk Insults
Slylandro Secondary
Spathi Secondary
Syreen Secondary
Orz Secondary: 'GO' and 'Intruder!' sounds
Precursor ship sounds, but that's not necesarially used in melee.
ZFP Secondary

Yeah. I started with replacing a lot of the sounds I thought needed replacing, though I left in the ones that I thought had an essence that really couldn't be replaced by any of the sounds I had.

Anybody interested in working on replacing Melee sounds, I'll be making an official thread about this unofficial sound replacement pack.

I use Windows Movie Maker to throw in subtitles, titles, and other effects onto my movies. You can also use the maker to save movies as WMV files, which are a LOT smaller than AVI's, though a bit lower in quality.
15  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Post your jaw-dropping melee feats here on: July 06, 2007, 12:26:56 am
That's because practically nobody is bothering to compress them any.

Except for me. Mine are minimally compressed.

EDIT: I think I compressed this one too much. Nonetheless, it's more Supox Shenanigans, with the Supox dealing with the Chenjesu and Utwig.
