1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: 'Missing Bits' of text on: August 04, 2012, 05:44:46 am
Yeah, I can vouch for the Mycon line about their homeworld not showing up while you have voices selected in your options. I still don't understand why the people who work on the project are so resistant to the idea of just setting it up so that the line shows and either doesn't have a voice clip associated with it, or alternately, if it can't be resolved that simply, just have the game play a silent voice clip over the line. I know that people can just look up the location in the Resource Guide, but uh...people can also just watch a lets play video of the game too, that doesn't really solve the problem with the game itself. It's mostly just annoying to me because I'm the sort of obsessive loser who structures their adventure & RPG playthroughs around what they think makes sense from a narrative/roleplaying perspective and since I'm usually rolling in RUs by the time I'm dealing with the Mycon & Syreen, It's unlikely that I'll "stumble across" the Mycon homeworld by "accident" like I do with the Orz about half the time.

Also I seem to recall having once installed a mod that reimplemented the Mycon homeworld, and the Metachron so that they'd play even when voices were enabled. Does that sound familiar to anyone else or am I just making shit up?
2  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Ship or game engine editing question. on: July 28, 2012, 10:37:04 am
So on my current playthrough I've accidentally saved after encountering a four-strong Kohr-ah flotilla. This isn't a game ender because worst comes to to worst I can just dump myself back an hour and work my way back, and I can beat them with the Eluder, but I just have to admit that the actual combat in SC2 is way too frenetic for me. I'd love to find out that there is a way to either brutally hack the game engine itself to slow things down a bit during combat (seriously, not even that much, just enough so that I feel like I'm allowed to frigging blink) or alternately that it's possible to change ship stats (and basically accomplish the same thing by lowering recharge rates, turning speeds, and max velocity across the board...and probably tinkering with planet gravity to compensate).

Seriously if either of those are possible and I get pointed in the right direction to start farting around with that stuff, I'd be super thankful.
3  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Hey everypeoples check out the High-Res cover I just made. on: July 20, 2012, 06:29:56 pm
Hmm, yeah I'm not sure why I wrote high-res cover instead of Games Explorer icon. :?

EDIT:

And now part two of what is becoming an actual factual project on my end to create a Games Explorer icon I'm happy with for UQM.

This is giving me serious flashbacks to the parody Cinemaware game in the bargain bin at Software Excess in SQ4 that I think is due in part to my half-assed title job. So right off the bat that's a couple things I know I need to work on (I'm aiming for a more Tor/Baen look so I think I need to be doing more to emphasize the retro/cartoon look the game has).

I forget, was the starbase screen modeled and animated in the dos version? Because the pixel graphics are way easier to manipulate and paint over as needed than the cg stuff.

EDIT2:
Attempt 3

Muuuch better I think. Still not entirely happy with the title placement or how the flagship/Tobermoon/Starbase/Earth mesh together, and I went overboard with blurring the picture, but this is waay closer to the look I'm going for.

EDIT3:
Attempt 4

Almost there, I'll have to go just wholesale repaint the Tobermoon to get it to look like it's in the same style as the flagship, and I'd love to recapture the slightly faded comic page look that the last one had, but I think the framing, title font, placement and just about everything else are exactly what I wanted or close enough for me to be satisfied after doing that.
4  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Hey everypeoples check out the Vista Games Explorer icon I just made. on: July 20, 2012, 05:56:11 am

I think it looks pretty good as the icon for UQM in the Games Explorer, though I'm not sure I'm happy with the position the flagship is in.
5  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Help me with my remixes and stuff again. :V on: July 13, 2012, 08:12:13 am
Ohmygar people, I can't for the life of me get my remixes working with 7.0 (and probably can't get the Lance Vader Utwig voices working either but I don't have an easy way to test that).

So here's what I can parse from the wiki/analyzing the .rmps from the rest of UQM:

-I should drop the zipped remix pack, labeled as a .uqm file, into the addons folder of UQM.

-Inside that file should be a folder which contains the resource map file which lists the remixes and the tracks they replace in game (ex. "comm.utwig.ultron.music = MUSICRES:addons/remix/4/02_-_Utwig_-_The_Ultron.ogg") as well as an .nfo file with data for a potential future in game content management system.

-Also inside that folder should be another folder containing the remixes themselves.

From what I've understood, that should work, but I'm not hearing anything for the Zoq-Fot-Pik and Fwiffo/All Spathi (I haven't checked to see if changing the reference in remix pack 1 correctly switched that track over to The Safe Ones or not) and the credits (and probably the others, but again, no easy way to test that), so I need a little-to-possibly-a-lot-of assistance.

EDIT: AAAAAUUUGH, okay, problem solved. There were sneaky little typos hiding in the .rmp files.

Actually it's only the intro and syreen tracks that are missing.
7  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Awesome Cyborg on: September 12, 2008, 07:58:36 pm
Well it's certainly not because I'm an extremely boring person, nope, no sir. >.>
8  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Awesome Cyborg on: September 11, 2008, 07:36:04 pm
I think a better metric for this would be looking at how the AI plays against itself. If you introduce a human player into the equation a bunch of other stuff comes into play that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with how the AI behaves, however, looking at how the AI plays against itself, you notice much more obvious flaws (for instance, the AI doesn't grok the Mmrnmhrm X-From at all, and is much to focused on picking up extra crew when playing as Syreen, and the AI really doesn't seem to be able to wrap its head around fighting Avengers) which can't just be attributed to the human player using a more adaptable/intelligent play style.
9  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Redesign of the old cockpits? on: September 01, 2008, 08:15:39 am
Another one for this idea might be Earthlings and Androsynth: how can there be one crew left in battle, when the cocpit view definately shows more than that - ( 2 or 4 )

I'd always assumed that the whole "crew" thing was rather more of an abstraction than the title "crew" (and you're purchasing of crew at the star base in 2, and recruitment at colonies in 1) would suggest.

Also, how did I miss the DEVO references with the Androsynth before now?!  Shocked
10  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: Help me with my Cobbled Together Remix Pack. on: August 26, 2008, 02:56:58 am
Hey thankyee-sai!  Grin

And I was just going to start dealing with the whole Druuge/Utwig/Supox situation in game too, what a pleasant synchronicity.

And that Yehat remix rocks when it's playing in-game! I can't wait for the (hopefully soon) completion of the Syreen remix.
11  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / UQM Venting Thread on: August 23, 2008, 09:39:05 am
ARGAGRAG! So, once again I've accidentally overwritten a save game at an inopportune moment and am now forced to re-gather a bunch of resources, bio-data, convince the Spathi to join me, and meet the Zot-Fot-Pik again. *sigh* And all because the game decided to spawn ten Kzer-Za and Khor-Ah fleets right next to me as I came out of Beta Cassiopeia (er, whatever that star in ZFP space with the planet with all the giant bees and slot machine trees is), and each fleet just *had* to contain on average four ships, and I just *had* to suddenly completely forget how to actually destroy said craft with my still meager fleet of Fwiffo's Starrunner and Decker's Tobermoon, and the cyborg just *had* to utterly fail five times in a row as well.

*sigh* I swear, sometimes this game just pushes my buttons. (like any time I land on a planet with poor weather, repeated death by random number generator, particularly when that generator is supposed to be slightly biased against killing me, is very annoying to say the least).

Anyway, anyone else have anything this otherwise wonderful game routinely gets on your nerves about?
12  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Reconstructed some of the missing Mycon audio... opinions? on: August 22, 2008, 12:08:12 am
Nutbunnies.
13  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Reconstructed some of the missing Mycon audio... opinions? on: August 21, 2008, 10:20:59 pm
So why did 3DO leave out those dialogues in the first place anyway? They both kind of convey important information that there really isn't a reasonable way to find out otherwise.  Undecided  (I mean, yeah, if you're searching around long enough you'll find the Mycon homeworld, and that you're on a time limit, but it's still odd...)

Oh, also, if I just pop those files (from the top of the list on the Bugzilla page) will I get the missing audio and text in game? (my OCD RPgamer side throws a bit of a fit about acting on knowlege it doesn't have in game)
14  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: Help me with my Cobbled Together Remix Pack. on: August 16, 2008, 09:10:53 pm
So I'm guessing that the Yehat remix hasn't been released in .ogg format then? (since it hasn't been mentioned here and I can't find it anywhere else)

And that the Utwig voice pack is no longer available.  Sad

EDIT: Err, nevermind, I can change .mp3s into .oggs on my own, heh.  Tongue
15  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: Help me with my Cobbled Together Remix Pack. on: August 13, 2008, 11:36:05 pm
Ah hah ha, I forgot that the .uqm files are are actually just disguised archives. That makes finding the right location for the various tracks muuuuuch easier, thank you.

So, as for the other stuff, after looking through the files in the 3DO and base content packages, there don't seem to be separate tracks for Fwiffo and the low-power Star Base. Am I very confused about what tracks exist, or am I just looking in the wrong place? (that first option would certainly explain why the older versions weren't playing in the first place  Tongue )
