2  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Balance Mod tournament Saturday 3rd of December 2016 on: November 28, 2016, 08:34:21 pm
It was pointed out Saturday is the 3rd of December, not 2nd as was incorrectly stated in the post. The real date is 3rd of December, Saturday.
3  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Balance Mod tournament Saturday 3rd of December 2016 on: November 25, 2016, 08:53:57 am
[Date]

Saturday 3rd of December 2016

[Time]

Here is how I found the various local times in case anyone's wondering.

---- SATURDAY
* 11:00 Los Angeles
* 12:00 Denver
* 13:00 Chicago
* 14:00 New York
* 19:00 London
* 20:00 Amsterdam/Paris
* 21:00 Helsinki/Jerusalem
* 22:00 Moscow
---- SUNDAY
* 06:00 Sydney
* 08:00 Auckland

[Place]

#UQM-Arena on irc://chat.freenode.net. If you don't know how any of this stuff works, this thing may be of use to you.

[Tournament Rules]

1) The game is played using Shiver's Balance Mod (2.08 for UQM 0.7.0)
2) There is a maximum fleet size of 200 points for all players.
3) The "stalemate breaker" rule is in effect. There has been confusion regarding this numerous times, so here is the rule in its verbose entirety:

Stalemates

Rule: In the spirit of competition, both players should employ whatever tactics they consider most effective. This may result in a stalemate at some point. If so, the faster of the two ships becomes a designated attacker. The attacker does not necessarily have to make a bee-line directly for the defender, but they are required to take the initiative.

Explanation: Stalemates are bound to happen. We found this rule to be a relatively painless solution. The decision to use speed as a stalemate-breaker did not significantly reduce the effectiveness of Star Control's fastest ships. As it turned out, the most mobile combatants were best suited to withstand such a penalty.

[Tournament Structure]

Players will be paired against each other at random. The tournament will consist of three rounds using Swiss tournament rules, meaning that you will play against other defeated players if you lose a match. There will be an additional final round between undefeated contestants if a clear winner has not emerged.

If the player turn-out is low, everyone will play against everyone else once.

If there aren't enough players for a tournament the date will be considered as a meet-up during which we hope to see even new faces.
4  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: UQM 0.7.0 Debian packages on: November 07, 2015, 12:49:44 pm
A bit of thread necromancy, but due to the mess that was handling the free domains I purchased plantmonster.net and hosted the files there for more stable access. The url is:

http://plantmonster.net/~oldlaptop/uqm-packages/deb/uf/

My understanding is that the .deb maintainer for UQM is still AWOL and there's no news about acquiring the managership for these packages.
5  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Netplay? on: March 06, 2014, 02:12:41 pm
Take a look here. Also drop by #uqm-arena on Freenode IRC network and ask for help there. If there is no-one online,wait until someone wakes up. It's a pretty American-centric IRC channel.
6  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Another Attempt at a Sequel on: September 19, 2013, 11:18:39 pm
A quick search told me that there's something called "MonoXNA",[1] an XNA implementation for Mono,

There's a thing called Monogame that I used earlier and worked reasonably well on Linux, at least for deployment.

Seems fun! Tell us a bit about the technology. What engine are you building this on? Will it be available for OS X or Linux in addition to Windows?
8  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Playing Through "Starflight" / How would you combine SF with SCII? on: September 10, 2013, 07:34:05 am
I really liked a few things in Starflight. I still have to really play it through, but at least the first hours were interesting. Unfortunately, I couldn't handle the real time style that the game used for everything. As damage messages and such appeared, you had a few seconds to read it and navigate the mess that your controls were. I kind of gave up due to that. Maybe the Sega version is better in this regard?
9  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Net Melee Balance Mod: ALL ABOARD on: September 06, 2013, 05:16:13 pm
Shiver's Improved Netmelee Mod 2.08 has been released.

Oldlaptop did all the work for this update!

Download at Ultronomicon.

Bug fix:
* Fix issue 31: The rectangles used for signifying your own ship in mirror matches no longer appear in non-mirror matches after certain events have happened.

Enhancement:
* Vux limpets are now different colour to separate them from floating crew. It was at times hard to see the difference between Vux limpets and floating crew in Vux vs. Syreen matches.

New features:
* When a game ends and the winning / losing fleets are displayed, the game now tells you two values of points left: Standard point value based on simple ship worth, and a fixed value that calculates the ship value after crew loss has been accounted for. A Kohr-Ah with 1 crew left is not worth 30 points.

The Slylandro are represented in a racist manner when it comes to artificial intelligence. This is precisely the stuff that sets our government back into considering more conservative AI laws.
11  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: Windows MSVC vsnprintf error when compiling on: August 25, 2013, 06:03:36 pm
If after Elestan's suggestion you still have problems, take a look at Oldlaptop's UQM Crossbuilder. It's a image that you can put on CD or boot in VirtualBox and compile UQM on Linux for WIndows. Details on usage.
12  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Second Annual Tournament on 8th/9th September 2013 on: August 12, 2013, 04:28:14 am
I don't see any mention of your name in my IRC logs... did you use this nickname? In general when you join the arena you should ask for a game and wait some 10 mins - 30 mins to see if anyone is around. Most of us have some kind of bouncer that keeps our IRC online around the clock even if our computers are off.
13  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Second Annual Tournament on 8th/9th September 2013 on: August 12, 2013, 12:20:31 am
There's a tournament coming! With the Stardock news we are expecting lots of new interest in the melee. If you have time, join in for a few fights!

14  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Net Melee Balance Mod: ALL ABOARD on: August 06, 2013, 03:00:22 am
Shiver's Improved Netmelee Mod 2.07 has been released.

Downloads at Ultronomicon: Click. You can also follow the modding at Github. New: Debian and Ubuntu users can now download .debs instead of compiling the source.

- Fix a bug with Pkunk causing early game ending due to a change made in the retreat mod. This also affected games which had retreat disabled.

This is a bug fix release to patch a nasty problem introduced with the retreat mod. Oldlaptop worked hard figuring this one out, and from now on the games won't end early if you have a Pkunk in your fleet and respawn a few times.
15  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Stardock about to own Star Control trademark on: July 21, 2013, 06:54:25 am
Star Controller made this post describing a recent development about the Atari auctions. It seems we can now start getting our hopes up?
