Whoa, how did this thread escape my attention for so long?  In any case, this is awesome and I look forward to playing it.  On a related note, I hope that the Macintosh version is not too long of a wait.

Congratulations to Shiver (and to all others involved) for this staggering achievement.

Heh, I really like how the music crescendoes right when the Druuge victory ditty would be playing after the Earthling match.

What is that music, by the way?

Well there are a lot of other players here who are closer to your level.  And also "Newbie Tournaments" from which players like Shiver are excluded.  But even aside from that, there's no reason to avoid the tournaments just because of the expert players there.  Getting brutally owned in Super-Melee can be a pretty fun experience.

Unfortunately, the other problem of abusive, un-fun tactics that grind the game to a near halt is just as likely as it would be in a normal tournament

Is it really?  The top handful of players are already excluded from this, and I don't know if anybody else really uses the Thraddash that way.  For many players, the Thraddash is just like any other ship.

On another note, I probably will not be able to participate in this, though if there's a no-show and I happen to be in the IRC channel, there's a chance I could take someone's place.

Frank Klepacki is definitely one of the greats of computer game music, and his website has a very nice (albeit slow) jukebox with high quality copies of much of his work. Extracting the MP3s is left as an exercise for the student (hint: you need a list of tunes, some idea where the music is stored and some software).

Now please excuse me while I see how loud I can play "Mechanical Man" at 3 AM before someone disrupts my power supply. Grin

This thread is now about our favorite video game music composers.  Tim Follin is mine.

I think it would be entertaining to see a single Ur-Quan face the entire old Alliance line, if you can do that.

Also, the music in the ZFP video is awesome.

Yeah, there are a lot of alternative match formats mentioned on the wiki that I've never actually seen people play.  The one that looks the most interesting to me is where you choose up to 100 points worth of ships for your own fleet and 100 points or more for your opponent.

The downside of this one is that you can't simply load your fleets and play, but on the other hand, there's no time-consuming auction process.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to join the dissenting opinion here.  Terawatt laser is a much better name.

Also, the art is really awesome.  I rarely get excited over fan stuff but these things are just beautiful.

Hey man, looks like two of my games aren't documented.  I lost to Tiberian by 63 and beat KlumsyK by 22.

You probably were confused because I've had somewhat inconsistent nicks in #uqm-melee.  Ph = Phallosopher = Ph01, hope this clears things up.

You should add stuff representing the sound effects.   "AAAHHH!" *FOOM* or however you feel it is best transcribed.

Honestly, there is no Syreen counter. You have to kill it with something that costs more. Druuge and Slylandro do the job nicely.

If you want Mycon to disappear, use Arilou for an easy sweep. A harder, but more punishing way to do it is with Zoq-Fot-Pik. Mycon is a bad ship for its price, possibly the worst in the game.

I think he may have been asking whether or not Mycon is a good choice against Syreen, rather than asking about counters for Mycon.  At least, that's how I read it.

Gammon Trigger is in the classic vein of Star Control and Star Flight.

Looks like it's got a little bit of Escape Velocity thrown in as well, which means it's likely that the game will be incredibly awesome.  Too bad I don't have any way to play Windows games.

-In the ultimate display of lameness, you match up Bud Light's Real Men of Genius with species and/or individuals in Star Control II: the Spathi are either Mr. 80 SPF Sunblock-Wearer (http://www.sendspace.com/file/xjslrh) or Mr. Paranoid-of-the-Ocean Guy http://www.sendspace.com/file/uf1y03, Admiral ZEX is Mr. Really Big Pet Snake-Owner (http://www.sendspace.com/file/r932ms), (or possibly a perverted spin on Mr. Exotic Cowboy Boot-Wearer [http://www.sendspace.com/file/8goy7r]), the Thraddash are Mr. Overly Competitive Touch Football Game-Player (http://www.sendspace.com/file/4naxh5), the Druuge are Mr. Dishonest Cable TV-Hooker-Upper (http://www.sendspace.com/file/iwiplg)....

Nothing previously posted in this thread can even come close to this.  Thanks for showing everybody else how it's done.

What is the turnout usually like?

You read SA occasionally, but you still don't understand their style of posting. Sad

Well, when that sort of thing is posted outside of somethingawful, people won't necessarily know to interpret it that way even if they're familiar with the posting style to which you refer.
