... and if you read later in that interview, he mentions that he likes the arc episodes of B5, so it's not unmitigated hate.

In any case, I think that if you wanted SC2-style ships, these are a reasonable approximation. If you don't think that, don't buy 'em. Smiley

Well, it wasn't so blatant that I ever made the connection, then again I never watched B5.

Wow, I'm two for two with rude people answering this thread so far, and the second one goes so far as to insult me, nice.

No need to be a poop.
Also understand that these minis are unpainted; a good color scheme would go a long way to making them look more like the SC2 ships.

Mongoose publishing posted pictures of their new Babylon 5 miniatures. If you're interested in miniatures gaming at all or just like stuff that looks like it might be part of Star Control, check out the Vree Fighters, which look a lot like Arilou skiffs:

(These little guys are each 10mm across.)

Other (25mm-scale) ships from that faction that are Arilou-appropriate are

Vree Varl Scout: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/miniature/detail.php?qsID=901&qsSeries=

Vree Xor War Saucer: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/miniature/detail.php?qsID=905&qsSeries=

Vree Xarl Patrol Boat: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/miniature/detail.php?qsID=978&qsSeries=

And if you're looking for other SC races (some of these are only somewhat similar, but beggars can't be choosers)....

I don't work for Mongoose and I don't own any of their stuff, I'm just a fan of painting miniatures and SC2. Smiley

Uh... I am using the PC version of Virtual PC (Running on a Windows XP machine) Grin

Ah, ya didn't say that before (Connetix also has a Mac version of Virtual PC...). Smiley

I wasn't even able to get it to run well (Hyperspace is _so_ jerky, and I don't even want to think about combat) so I never bothered trying to figure out the sound problem. Any reason you haven't just downloaded the interim Mac version?
22  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: The speed record on: April 09, 2003, 02:16:47 am
I don't remember what my fastest game time was, but I remember that at the peak of my skill on my 3DO I could play SC2 from start to finish in about 7.5 hours of real time.
23  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Mac OS X - larger game window on: March 22, 2003, 01:30:02 am
AFAIK I can't pass command-line options on Mac OS X ... is there a way (other than changing my monitor resolution) to make the game window larger?

Any chance the save game files can be made not-invisible?

Ur-Quans are both non-native, as are the Orz and Arilou and Melnorme. That leaves 20

Are you sure the Ur-Quan and Melnorme aren't native?

(1) The Sa-Matra is here, and has been here, which leads me to believe that this was the origin point of the doctrinal war, or was at least very close to it.

(2) The Taalo home star is in this area, which says to me that the original area controlled by the Sentient Milieu was here, or at least very close to it. And if that is the case, the Melnorme should be native to somewhere close to here as well.

At least, that's how I've always felt it to be.

That's pretty much what I said.
But I do find it odd that there aren't more slave shields up along the northern border of the star map...

Well, you are assuming a LOT of parallel sentience development in this part of the galaxy. After all, we've got, what, 20+ native races scattered over 500 stars? That's an awful lot of sentient races evolving at approximately the same time. Any more than that really starts to shake my suspension of disbelief.
27  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: Bug 0 fuel in Quasispace = no autopilot on: January 24, 2003, 01:32:26 am
{well, the changelog post is stickied at the top of this forum...}

Ah, the link was down when I checked.

{BTW, sean, i love your mods and stuff.  We met at gencon once =)}

Cool! Smiley
28  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Link for Windows .2 EXE Here on: January 22, 2003, 12:16:38 am
I think the 3DO did the same thing ... if you did a bio scan it would filter the planet green and show the bio locations, leaving the green filter in place until you did a different scan, left the scan submenu, or launched a lander.
29  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: Bug 0 fuel in Quasispace = no autopilot on: January 17, 2003, 11:41:00 pm
Cool, thanks.

Where can I find _my_ local changelog to look for such things?
30  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Bug 0 fuel in Quasispace = no autopilot on: January 17, 2003, 12:03:57 am
I can't access the todo on known bugs list right now, so I'm posting this on the off chance it hasn't been reported.

If you enter quasispace and you have 0 fuel left (like if you had 10 fuel and activated the quasispace portal), you can still turn and thrust manually, but the autopilot won't thrust (though it will turn you).

I recall from the 3D0 version that moving in quasispace takes no fuel, so this is probably something in the autopilot code that needs to be overridden.
