Looks very cool...nice job!

*sigh*

It doesn't look like I will be able to get into this tournament after all. Saturdays are completely booked lately, although this isn't necessarily a bad thing.  Wink

Anyways, best of luck to the participants.

Gammon Trigger is in the classic vein of Star Control and Star Flight.

Looks like it's got a little bit of Escape Velocity thrown in as well, which means it's likely that the game will be incredibly awesome.  Too bad I don't have any way to play Windows games.

A bigger, better, prettier version of EV would be nice!  Cool

Well, at least he admitted the Syreen looked terrible.

As a side note, I could go back and read some stellar reviews of Master of Orion 3. Those are good for a laugh too.

Out of curiosity, does anyone remember any strongly negative reviews for SC3?

Sadly, I don't think I can make this Saturday. Perhaps I can catch up the following week?

Thanks for organizing this again, Cedric. These were fun events last summer (er...winter for you), and I look forward to their continuation. Real-world events permitting, I look forward to participating.

It's true, I'm actually a frogman stuck in a lab deep within the bowels of the Pentagon. They're trying to figure out how to give soldiers in Iraq extra lives and continues.

There are certainly plenty of rats and pigs to fight there.  Wink

My beer preference seems to change month-to-month. I'm lucky that I live near a package store that has a huge selection (most of which I still haven't tried). That being said, I enjoy the following brews:

Hoegaarden
MGD
Guiness
Dos Equis
Hofbrau Munchen
Molson Canadian
Grolsch
Warsteiner
Newcastle

Oh wow, that brings back some memories. I was especially fond of the first game on my old Apple ][ GS.

Cedric, once again you are the voice or reason and I agree wholeheartedly. Especially in terms of fostering enthusiasm for net melee.  Cheesy

As far as new players expressing opinions, I'm all for it. I think a lot of the fun of melee is expressing your ideas and strategies and testing them in battle. I remember the excitement of discovering the Mmrnmhrm could defeat the dreaded Ur-Quan in SC1.  Grin These little things are a ton of fun to think about when you're just getting started.

(As a side note, I at one point endorsed the Ur-Quan as the best ship in the game. Shows you what I knew!)

Looks pretty good.  Wink I would like to some some Spathi drawn in color!
71  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Re: Women's Basketball on: May 20, 2008, 04:10:00 am
It sounds like you have evidence to back it up, but I am surprised that women compete equally with men ina  three-point shoot out. I would have thought men to have superior hand-eye coordination and accuracy (now thinking snooker, billiards, pool etc)

Yeah, they're right up there with the boys when hoisting up 3s. In other contests, like the slam-dunk contest however, I don't think women participate because very few women can actually dunk.
72  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Re: The Office on: May 19, 2008, 02:50:29 pm
Having never seen the British version, I'm nonetheless a big fan. I haven't watched at all since the writer's strike. Have they begun to air new episodes yet?
73  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Re: Women's Basketball on: May 19, 2008, 02:47:22 pm
In a pure skills competition (say a 3-point shot competition), yes, a skilled women could definitely compete with the boys. We see this all the time during the NBA All Star Game.

But put two, comparably skilled men and women against each other in a head to head game, and it's really no contest. The guy's arm reach is simply too much to overcome. Generally, where size or strength is a factor, the woman is going to be at a serious disadvantage.

Cedric, I would argue that women are actually at an advantage in equestrian and motor sports. Smaller size is less of a burden on their horse or car.

That being said, the chess example above is fascinating. Has there ever been official men vs. women chess matches before?

74  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Can you win once the Kohr-Ah go on their rampage? on: May 15, 2008, 04:02:31 pm
If they've not yet cleansed races crucial to success, yes, if they have, no. Grin

Not really. It's very possible to win once they begin their march. In fact, if you play the 'evil' way, you're counting on the Kohr-Ah to do some dirty work for you. You just have to know exactly where to go and do it fast.

HINT: Are you sure you're looking on the right planet/system?
