The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: What, what is going on??!

Oh, god... Leave at least UQM alone. Everything is beautiful there as it is. Just as beautiful were the relations of our mothers and fathers. Enjoy the modern sterile world without any flirting, taste and beautiful images and leave the classics alone.
I could make all sorts of observations about the in(s)anity of your comments here, but… I don't think anyone's gonna be modding UQM to remove the sexism. A full-fledged remake however, with an all-new engine and graphics and voices and stuff, would be a whole other story.

you have to actually admit you were wrong and ask for forgiveness for it to be granted.
This. Well, I'd suggest simply admitting you're wrong is sufficient. (In fact if you explicitly asked for forgiveness I might start to question the sincerity of your confession.) But anyway, I've never heard any evidence to suggest that Wardell has admitted he's wrong about anything, so... yeah, I'm not buying SCO unless I can get it in a Humble Bundle and send all the money to charity. 1. There's a history of bad behavior. The money you spend on Stardock games now could very well finance future bad behavior. Perhaps against F&P, or perhaps against some other small developer.
Indeed, this was far from the first case of bad behaviour from Wardell.

Yes, this outcome is definitely for the best. The current state of things leaves me with a very uncomfortable question: Would I buy the next Star Control game that Stardock has in the pipe? I genuinely have no idea. As an old fan who's painfully aware of the details of the lawsuit, I feel like my answer should be "no". As a profoundly selfish person and as a gamer who just wants his entertainment, my answer should be "yes". Knowing that Brad Wardell tried to trick the core team into handing over rights to UQM, that should be a hard "no" again. Also knowing that every person I've ever met is screwed up in some fashion and being a big believer in forgiveness, there's more reason for "yes". The lawsuit's resolution seems perfectly tailored to make this choice difficult, at least for me. A question for later.
That's also a good description of my thought process. I like space games, I'm also a big believer in forgiveness, and I don't particularly enjoy holding grudges. On the other hand, Wardell's bad behaviour both in regards to this lawsuit debacle and the UQM project (not to mention other incidents outside the scope of Star Control or this community) has been pretty longstanding and he's not really shown any contrition or even really acknowledgement that he did anything wrong that I've seen. And even though I think the notion of forgiving people even when they don't apologize is a noble one, I also don't like actively supporting people who act arrogantly, petulantly or unfairly when they show no regret for their actions (because it sets a bad standard). So I think it's still going to be a no from me, but who knows. If nothing else, I'd consider at least buying a new game on Humble Bundle and sending the cash charity-wards. I'm of a similar mind. Forgiveness is for people who are remorseful. I do sort of want to play SCO but I don't want to buy it, so Humble Bundle would probably be the only legal way I would be willing to obtain it.

Good stuff. Thanks for this.
Unfortunately I could not add escort ships. Can anyone tell me how to do this?
You can't. The saves themselves won't allow it. Well that's a pretty nonsensical statement. If the saves didn't allow it, then saving the game would reset your escort ships to some default set, so there must be a way to do it…

I'm certain that there will be exceptions. And I'm sorry to hear if you're one of them who was waiting on a sale and still wants the game.
I wasn't specifically referring to SCO, which I still haven't entirely decided on, but sale or not, I generally only buy games that have been released for awhile. I do kind of want to try SCO but I really don't want to give Stardock my money, so I dunno. Probably the only way I'd actually buy it would be in a Humble Bundle type situation that allows me to specify that all the money goes to charity (or other developers) instead of to Stardock.
