1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Star Control: Stardock Fall Preview on: November 13, 2016, 08:04:52 pm
This is probably the most exciting news we've had in a long time and it only warranted 2 replys?

This community has been dormant for some time, time to WAKE UP GUYS!

There's a new Star Control coming!

I have pre-ordered.
2  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Portuguese Translation Project - Status Update on: August 19, 2013, 04:51:30 pm
Hi there!

As you might have noticed from the lack of updates (and the pt-masters website being down for more than a couple of years) the initial project is dead.

A lot has happened in real life TM, and I just did not had the time to go forth with the project.

It warms my heart to see that someone else picked up the torch and ran with the Portuguese translation.

I look forward to see the result of your efforts as I believe this game needs to be played by a lot of Portuguese fans without any English knowledge.

I hope to see news soon.

Regards,
3  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Kickstarter? on: February 28, 2012, 12:25:29 am
I came here today just to bring this to the table....

If TFB started a sucessful Kickstarter project for the Next "Ur-Quan Masters" (please note the deliberate absense of the Star Control brand on my speech), this could be it.

Why are we looking at the expense of developing a new UQM to be something like the new Gears of War or Uncharted? Why can't it just be a game with simple graphics (for me 2D is just fine) and a new story?

I could easily see the next UQM as a Steam "indie" like game. After the initial funding, it could sell for 10$ or something, and it would still be a huge success.

Double Fine have really hit the nail this time, and I think any producer reasonably honest about wanting to give us a sequel, should take their lead and grab this terrific opportunity.

So, I am openly supporting a kickstarter project for the next UQM... just let me pay for the damn game! Smiley
4  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Project 6014 Demo 0.2.1 released! on: January 29, 2012, 11:16:16 am

D'oh! What kind of bugs were you having? From my playtesting, the new demo seems pretty bug free.  Embarrassed  The lack of  voices is more of an issue of the writing changing so quickly, and disk space concerns (it's already a lot for a 2D Demo). I have a feeling we're going to be putting in a lot more stuff once the full game comes out.

My conversation with the Spathi was bugged.
I cannot recall the specifics, but I was just given one possible answer (not much of an option there), and the conversation did not make any sense (like I ask for oranges and the Spathi answered in apples). It looked like it was selecting random pieces of the dialog (like I make question 1 and he gives me the answer to question Cool.

But I can try and reproduce it for you.

As far as the rest of your comments. Thank you. Lawyers, copyright, etc. really kind of prohibits us from charging. Plus, this has never been about money for us. We all love Star Control and the Ur-Quan Masters.  The best way to thank us, is to let others know.  Message boards, videos, etc. The more exposure we get means we can reach more fans, and entice more talented people to join the project.

I have been letting others know about Star Control and the UQM universe for almost 20 years now... You bet I will be telling others about this project!

I do have a couple of games that I'm working on which feel a lot like Star Control which should be available for iPhone and Android devices. They are still a ways off though. I've got so many things I'm working on now.

The problem with iOS games for me has always been the control scheme, and I don't feel I'd be able to endure Star Control on the iPhone... the combat it too tight to be any good with touch controls.

Anyway I'll still have a look into it. Let us know as soon as you have them available.

While the writers are busy with the story.... our programmer's have taken it upon themselves to overhaul the dialog systems in the game that would allow it to be even easier for people to write new adventures. I find this really exciting. Only time will tell how well this project goes, but after seeing some of the stuff the other programmers have done... I'm not to worried. Guys like SuperButcherX and Quinabre are amazing.

The idea of non-programmers being able to write new adventures is just so exciting to me. No need for compilers, knowing C code, navigating the thousands of lines of code, etc.  Once this is done, I see the potential for an explosion of new adventures. Anybody can create new stories and adventures.  The adventures of Fwiffo? A Star Control 1 era prequel?  Star Control: secret missions? Exciting possibilities....

That would be great!

I have high expectations for this project (probably the bigger expectations I've ever had for a SC project)! Just don't loose steam, and keep the good news roling!

Thanks!

Regards,

The feeling of playing a fresh Star Control adventure was unbelievable... THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Even with all the bugs and  the lack of speech (for the most part) it was an amazing experience.

Keep up this great work, and if you choose to release a payed sequel, you have a buyer right here.

Fantastic!

I'll give your demo a try... it seems to be really good.

Thanks!
7  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Matt Barton interviews Fred Ford and Paul Reiche, III on: August 17, 2011, 08:51:13 pm
We are all around, but since news have been quite rare these days, I just peek at the foruns every other month or so...

This was a great interview, but I agree that only a new Star Control announcement could heat up this place Smiley

I think the Ur-Quan Masters should be published on digital platforms like STEAM to rise the interest on a sequel.

Regards and lets keet Star Controling...

What does Star Control II lack?

A proper sequel!

I honestly cannot understand why the hell hasn't this appeared yet on XBLA or PSN, as there are tons of worst games in those console networks and they still sell like hot cakes.

This is sure to be a guaranteed success on any of those platforms!

Anyway, I'd even settle for a remake (a good one) if that helped build interest for a proper sequel for this game...

Star Control fans are everywhere... I just teased the developers team a bit on their forum (see this thread ), and there are lots of responses regarding Star Control... Smiley

This is a beautiful project to say the least...

Keep up your great work!

I don't come here often, but when I do, I always get surprised by the tenacity of the Star Control universe fans... thanks man!
11  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Swords & Soldiers homage to Star Control on: May 22, 2009, 12:37:59 am
As I was strolling trough the credits in the new wiiware game  Swords & Soldiers, i saw an homage to the Star Control universe, as these guys thank "Fwiffo the Spathi"!

I felt so excited I felt compeled to share this with you!

Not only do these guys know and respect Star Control, but they also made a great game...

12  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Project: CWUV on: July 06, 2007, 03:41:37 pm
I do not post often, but I have to give my opinion on this one...

I kind of like Vallagar, the man has brought some spirit back to the forums, and after all, every community needs their "fool" (no offense)  Grin

But I am getting a bit tired or hearing his rant about the Utwig voice. PLEASE STOP!

Also, writing e-mails to TFB about a subject that is clearly irrelevant for most of the people (besides what you might think, IT IS) is not going to help anyway.

C'mon Vallagar, please stop talking about this (or at least do not open any new threads about the subject, nor mention it every other post), its enough.

You are a valuable asset to the community, don't ruin it by being annoying.

Thanks.
13  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: IRC chat with Toys for Bob on 2007-06-13 on: June 19, 2007, 07:16:43 pm
I always thought that Starscape worked pretty well (ish) as a game, but the gathering of minerals became tedious (more tedious than that of Star Control 2, even! :O) and that the in-game text was horribly written,  unlike that of Space Rangers 2, which actually was written in Engrish instead of English, but which ingame texts were so extremely funny and descriptive, that it made it all a whole lot of fun.

Yes, I agree that story wise Starscape is not a reference... Smiley... indeed it's pretty cheesy.

What I think would be important for TFB to notice in Starscape is how it's combat looks like an update SC2 engine. I still think that SC2 gameplay is superior but Starscape has some nice battles (i liked the bosses).

And yes... mining got boring very quickly! Smiley

Anyway, thank you guys for organizing this chat with so many people from TFB, and hopefully we have been able to fuel their desire to make a new Star Control (or at least port SC2 to Xbox Live!, which I am sure would be very helpful in getting the needed attention to the franchise).
14  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Portuguese Translation Project - Status Update on: April 29, 2007, 11:06:41 pm
Hi there,

As some of you might know, PT-Masters a Portuguese UQM translation project has been launched in 2005.

Shortly after opening, the project has stalled due to lack of time and communication problems inside the team.

It is with great pleasure that I announce that this project is coming back, and work is being done.

There is already some progress, and you might want to check the Screenshots on our official project page (www.pt-masters.net).

For those of you that do not speak Portuguese, there is also an English version of the page available.

The PT-Masters project was created to translate "The Ur-Quan Masters" to European and Brazilian Portuguese, and is still recruiting (if you wish to give us a hand, contact us trough here, or our website).

We also lost contact with the Brazilian team that was helping us... should you see this message, please get in touch.

Thank you all for your attention.
