Hi Dczanik!
Total SC2 fan here. I found out about this Project only now, and registered in the forum just to to voice my enthusiasm. Great kudos!!!
Unfortunately, I really overbooked at this time and I cannot afford to offer any help to you or the team, at least for now. Sorry!
So, basically, just wanted to say
number_of_people_who_cannot_wait_to_see_this_happen ++
Well, I do have one small idea to offer, about a potential alien race. I always had it in mind, because I think it is very SC2-ish.
(digression - this is what I mean by that: something I really loved about SC2 is how the characterization of many races, their specific 'main theme' so to say, is coherently reflected on so many different aspects: from cosmetic ones: the appearance, the dialogs, the ship name, the ship look, the way it is piloted, the music... to gameplay ones: the role in the various adventure plots and subplots, the role in the 'strategic' game, the features of the ship - i.e. the combat style. Well, the alien race I have in mind would offer the whole set)
I see the project wiki pages have one "raw idea" section. Do you mind if I insert it there? Yes I'm aware that just offering ideas for others to develop is very easy and convenient.
Also: did you consider rising some well deserved funding on, e.g., indiegogo or kickstarter? I for one would contribute.
Thanks! Go ahead and post. Always interested in new ideas. We're not planning on any kickstarter. It's just a lot of legal issues and hurdles to overcome.

I put this in as mostly a joke to the other guys. We had a problem of when you went to the station, it showed the planet. Looked weird. So I replaced it. I needed something to cover up the unfinished parts of the background....so i made her big. You can really tell the quality just screams 'placeholder!' If somebody has a better idea for the station, let me know. Some people love her, some people hate her. I just wanted something that looked very different than Talana to not cause confusion. Still, she cracks me up.

I've looked through the code repositories and the dev forum, but can't find a list of outstanding tasks anywhere, or even any high-level description of what needs doing.
I'm familiar with C++, OpenGL, and more specifically the UQM codebase (I made a slew of mods to it back in '08, for private use). If there's a series of small tasks I could knock off over time, I'd be interested in doing some of the programming work to get things going again.
Great! Send me an email. Dczanik@gmail.com

Some friendly advice and constructive criticism, to take or leave as you see fit:-
The Good: * Graphics amazing, mustve taken a phenomenal amount of time and work. * Some of the tweaks are very good * Fonts for the most part are well-chosen and make a difference * Everything looks a lot cleaner * Rotating planets is a nice tweak * Being able to see the type of planet from the solar system is a nice tweak * Great improvements to galaxy map
The Bad: * Unrefined (monolithic - the ~700MB one) installer - installs all source as well as additional unused dlls, some dlls not installed correctly (msvcr100, had to be renamed). About 100MB wasted space. * Earthquakes virtually invisible now, particularly on grey planets. * Lander text (what you see when a lander discovers something) difficult to read, almost indecipherable. * Fullscreen mode doesn't actually change to the video mode selected, it fullscreens current screen mode (in my case 1024x600) and places the screen inside that (to the right on mine). * Music remixes missing. You shouldn't be using the 3DO mixes, you should use the UQM remixes - they are higher quality, less abrasive than the originals and certainly HD by comparison. * "currently selected" option on main menu difficult to see - not a lot of differential between selected and unselected option * "selected" option in settings menu (from main screen menu) difficult to differentiate between selected and non-selected options. * "+" and "-" buttons don't work on starmap, at least on my computer (maybe they work on the numpad?, my laptop doesn't have one of those).
I'm sure I'll find more stuff as time goes on. It's an amazing effort, though I wish it could've been integrated into the main distro as some 'quality control' stuff as above needs fixing. I guess the other thing I miss is that not having crappy lo-res graphics doesn't allow me to delude myself that this game is as good by comparison with other current games as I thought it was - bringing the graphical side of it into the 21st century makes me realise how many other aspects are lacking by comparison. On the whole a great job.
Cool! Glad you like it. Thanks for the critique. To go over some of the issues: * The installer, well, that comes from lack of a Windows Programmer. I created the .exe installer. It was either that or a .ZIP file. I wasn't able to get the UQM installer to run I never intended to be the guy to create the installer. * Earthquakes: This is one of those things where it works just fine on my machine. Though I have really good contrast ratios and a high resolution. But others have complained, so it is an issue. * Lander Text. God, it is awful isn't it? * Missing Music. I have no idea why this is.I think there was a problem on my machine when downloading the code. * The "currently selected" is the same selection as UQM. I'd like a change in the future too, but that required additional coding. * + and - work fine for me. Anybody else having problems? There's still a lot of work to make it work like a modern game but it requires quite a bit of extra programming.

New guy here. I played SC1 to death on the Sega Genesis about 2 decades ago, but never got around to playing SC2. After reading so many people waxing fondly about Star Control 2 I found the Ur-Quan Masters HD remake yesterday. Man, this game is great! I sunk about 4 hours into it last night , can't wait to dig into it again tonight.
At first the lack of smooth turning gave me pause, but I realize now how much it would have altered the delicate combat system, so leaving it alone was a wise design choice. I'm trying not to resort to walkthroughs, relying on good old fashioned note-taking to find my way, but after recruiting Fwiffo and destroying a corrupted Slylandro I've been mostly harvesting minerals and bringing them back to Earth's platform. Not sure where to proceed from here, but I'll figure it out.
Thanks so much for this HD remake, I'm really loving it.
Glad you like it! Taking notes for games is a rather weird phenomenon you don't see much anymore. SC2 also just gives you this huge world, and says "Go explore it. I'm sure you'll figure it out". There's little to no hand holding. The smooth turning is something I'd like to do (at least for single player orbit view). I've done some experiments to reduce the number of frames, yet providing a smooth rotation that you can see here: http://star-control.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=992But, that takes a programmer to implement the changes.

Did you make 320x240 and 640x480 graphics too? I found the letters too hard to read in 320x240, so I made another set for low res stuff.
No, I didn't. Simply for the hires so far, 'cause I'm playing only in this resolution. Question: Couldn't it be changed in the way, that true type fonts can be used in the game? Just for the basic fonts, not the dialogues. It would make things like this a lot easier and give the player the opportunity to switch to any other font he likes. Neither game uses True-Type fonts. It would be easier if the engine supported it.
