Thanks. It's one of my personal favorites. I have a wallpaper sized of the Ur-Quan pic available here too.  It looks really neat animated, and in-game too.

In case anybody is wondering, as far as release dates are concerned I'd like to have the game available by the end of the year.  I could release something everybody could play with sooner but that's going to require some help. We've got the game running at 4 times the original resolution.  But now there's a bunch of small (and easy?) bugs with melee.  For example, weapons shoot 1/4th their distance, ships 1/4th their speed, etc. But I've got a ton of work just doing the art assets. So if any programmers would like to help, let me know.

So... i'm new here, but been playing Star Control since 1990 and have replayed the three games since last year (yes, even SC3) and i'm working on a spin-off which is based heavily on SC2 (graphics and gameplay, not yet ready to spill the beans on the intended gameplay  Wink )... however, i would like to know some things:
  • Is there any restriction on the use of the graphics/sounds/music for a commercial remake? (freemium model, pointing to UQM for the credits  Wink )
  • Is there any possibility to have Paul Reiche and Fred Ford involved in the project? do they read these forums? i would really really like to construct a REAL sequel instead of a partial spin-off

All in all, the super melee code is working nicely right now and i (my team) will be furthening the project into existence (at least without a new "alternate" storyline like SC3 *ugh*) in the months after we finish our current project .

I'm open for the debate...

I've got a lot of hi-res 2D artwork I've already made.  Just PM me if you need anything.

The Zerg were eaten by the Lurg.  Talking about the game makes me want to start playing Starcraft 2 again. Working on this mod destroyed my gaming/free time.

We could always use some additional artists and programmers on the team.  Contact Cedric for more info.

Just wanted to update. Thanks Novus that worked.  None of the previous suggestions in the threads worked.

I've got my Urquan Masters HD game running the latest code at 2 and 4 times the original graphics.  Most of the graphics are tiny since I haven't changed them just yet, but what I've done so far is looking really sweet. Seeing it at 1280x960 (without resizing filters) is really neat. Maybe one day a programmer will join my team and help with getting the thing to run in fullscreen widescreen graphics. Again, thanks a lot!

I have 2 minutes of it in mp3. I found a program but it will only convert 60 percent of the file without paying $20. (really. charging $20 to convert  a mod file??)

While attempting to compile the  latest snapshot (uqm-svn-03551-20100711.0400) I run into some errors.   I get a bunch of C2375 errors.

stdio.h(333) : error C2375: 'vsnprintf' : redefinition; different linkage c:\uqm-svn-03549-20100702.2000\src\port.h(165) : see declaration of 'vsnprintf'

Any ideas? Google hasn't helped me solve the issue, and neither has it helped me to understand what the error message is really saying.  Undecided   Any help would be greatly appreciated Smiley

No. the ISD is just something I always thought would be fun to see in Star Control. It's a Melee only thing. I think it's my new favorite ship to play as..  Reminds me of the CHMMR  and Dreadnaught. Big brawler ships.  I'm really hoping others like it as much as I do.

The Lurg are frustrating for me to fight against. It forces you to play on its terms. Which usually means going through the bubbles and leaving yourself open to attack.  I guess that kinda fits with the Lurg mentality.  Some may enjoy playing them, but I prefer ships like the CHMMR, Arilou, or Spathi. It does feel really good when I blast them away though.  I can see them being as irritating to fight against as the Vux or that Yehat that resurrects 4 times.   Undecided   But, I have a friend who just loves playing against me with it because he knows he can frustrate the hell out of me.   I love the Explorer's secondary weapon now.

I think these are awesome. Plus there's nothing saying that all Earthling cruisers have to look the same either.  Do all boats look the same? Do all jets look the same?

My favorite is actually the second one. To me, it feels more realistic.  Like an older Earth ship. I see those yellow tanks as fuel or oxygen tanks. You could even have a crew pod rotating to create gravity. I'm never sure how all these ships have gravity, but it would be theoretically possible that those 'graviton emitters' take up a bunch of energy. Keep up the good work! I want to see more Smiley

I just came across this post.  So forgive me if some of the points I want to make are from earlier (and in the original thread).

My father was a Hungarian who came to the U.S. after fighting Russians for freedom from the USSR in the Hungarian Revolution. He was shot twice and almost died. My grandmother was gang raped by Russian soldiers. My grandfather almost died in a Gulag and only lived a few short years afterwards due to his injuries. Like Rome, Russia was maintaining itself by feeding off other countries. It also kept power by violent purges of anybody who opposed them, while blatantly spouting non-stop propaganda to get the masses to agree with them. It told everybody everything was okay while It was on the brink of economic collapse.  When I see some comments from somebody who is Russian commenting on how they prefer the old USSR compared to their new system of government I can't help but feel a little like giving them the finger.   For that unsustainable standard of living they enjoyed, how many had to oppressed? How many had to die?

Now, that being said. I believe the U.S. finds itself in a similar situation and I'm just as much against it. Until recently the U.S. had been enjoying an unsustainable standard of living. In many ways (like the deficit), we still are.  Our involvement in the middle east is mostly about our need for oil. How many have to be oppressed, and how many have to die so we can enjoy things like gas under $4/gallon?

As far as Republican and Democrats voting. Voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil. You reap what you sow.

For stuff like open source projects like Timewarp (and project6014). Money is a great motivator, but not the only one. I think this video might provide some insight: What Motivates Us
