Well, with a lot of help by Zenzmurfy, we're about 2/3rds of the way through all the ship models ourselves.  Your models did inspire me to work on my Mycon Podship last night.  Since there's no way I can please everybody, I plan on opening up UQM-HD so you can use alternate ship models. So the more models, the merrier! Smiley



And since I haven't been updating lately, I give you my Vux with an homage to Zarla's artwork.

We're quite aware of Zarla! I'm a big fan of hers too. She's one of the people I follow on Deviant art, and I've seen the stuff on her website and frungylovers countless times. In fact, she sent me a message a couple days ago.  I'd love to see her join our team, but she's really busy.  I'm amazed she has any time at all.  If you look at the sheer volume of stuff she's done, you could almost imagine her never leaving her drawing tablet. She's amazing. Smiley

I just got an android phone and have loved playing Urquan masters on it. Now if you can only port 6014 for us Wink

Well. There is always ways to disable options in netplay. Having played it on a cell phone, I wouldn't mind a slower option in single player.

I think your problems with the 6014 demo (ship improvements and mineral gathering) will be fixed in an update or the full game.  I hope to play your game soon. Smiley

Thanks! I appreciate it! It thrills me that people just want to explore and find everything they can.  It seems you've certainly played the heck out of it. I'm the art guy so I can't speak on everything, but I'll answer your questions best I can...

The music bug is still a bug. Reloading the game should help. I can't speak to why it's happening. Same with the SOI stuff.

I rather like it. It only zooms in when she is talking. 

Animation is basically done using a text file that lists the x,y coordinates a png file is placed "on top". When you have a series of these just right it looks like it's moving. Same concept like using multiple sheets of paper for traditional animation. I'm generalizing a bit, the game requires hand coding for a lot of stuff too.

Zooming is done by really having five frames of animation that "fades" between one pic and the next.  I just created that by changing the opacity levels between two pictures over the five screens. A fair amount of coding made it work.

Actually, I think Lurg predates the Borg and the Zerg. So they are copying Star Control! Smiley I picked the name from the original Star Control 1 copy protection. Professor Zorg's Guide to Alien Etiquette seemed to be the inspiration of the SC2 aliens, the Orz, Slylandro, Supox, Thraddash, Utwig, and Zoq-Fot-Pik.  So, taking a page out of tradition, I wanted to follow suit.  You'll notice it here in the online solver.

Awesome.

Any chance on some animation tools too?  Animating for me has been rather trying. It's hard enough trying to find the X,Y coordinates. I also have to edit .ani file, then go into a game, wait for the loading screen, load a save game, and watch the animation. When you've loaded the game the 50th time, it gets a little monotonous.

Then there's ship animation.  After editing any of the 4 .ANI files (big,medium,small,captain), I have to load the game, go to melee, set it to human, select 2 ships, and then test it while asteroids are coming, and gravity is pulling the ship.  These are just screaming for tools. I'd love a tool that I can edit the file, and hit a reload button, and see how the changes look instantly. It would save me a lot of time.

Judge Yohance. Thanks so much for the input! I'm new to the forums myself. I've been a reader of the forums for quite a while now (since 2002?), so it was a bit surreal when I joined the team and got to work with some of the people I've admired from afar.

I'm pretty proud of capturing the likeness.

I'm personally too busy with the art to contribute to a map (at least at this time), and we only have one other artist. I'd love for the community to help us out here.

Eh. I wouldn't worry about it. I was just trying to help the community. But the countdown clock was a little scary.  I was worried that people's expectations would be too high, and they'd be really dissapointed .

I'm so glad you love the artwork.  The fact that people love it, and feel its loyal to the Star Control universe is one of the best compliments I could receive.  I worked so hard for that.   After all, I'm making this for you guys. I wish I could take credit for it all, the ship design was by the legendary Vile Rancour as well as the Earth stuff, the new bio-critters, and a bunch of little stuff few will notice like the updated Shofixti ship.  The only work I did on the ship was making more of a 3d view that you see in the loading screen and in the intro screens. Most of the artwork is probably mine, but that's because I'm unemployed  Cry and just have more time to work on the game


Bring on the grammar hammer. I don't think any of us are *gewd spellrz* and could use the help.  Some of the problems are American vs. British spellings. Frankly, they hurt my American eyes. Tongue Any ideas for witty remarks, PM me, and I'll see if we can't include them.

You've got the .EXE with Windows content, right? Try runing uqm.bat instead.

It was Funbags McNastyPants. Seemed like a perfect acceptable name to me.  j/k  Wink

Play the game, suggest a name.  Tell us the good, the bad, and the ugly.  Hopefully, we'll see an update with some improvements.
