If you're a social person you'll navigate around these problems easily I can see you're operating under the assumption that most of us want to be social. I cannot speak for everyone else, but I enjoy playing solo so much more. Don't get me wrong; I have met good friends playing MMO's. However, the need to have connections with other people to really prosper is severely limiting. Let us not forget about Captain Zelnick! By taking out the single hero and introducing a ton of human players each usually with less wit than phytoplankton, you completely destroy the deep meaning to the story and the game. I mean really, how the (censored) is someone supposed to concentrate when people constantly send messages back and forth like "i iz l33t" and "LoLz!! WtF NO0bsZ!!!". There are already enough MMO's, and many of them no doubt already supply everything you have described.

That's why I will say it again. I SPECIFICALLY REFER TO GUILD WARS. When I want you guys to look at the theory of how the Online MMO portion would play out. And I will say what I said again. Give a more convenient multi-player system in Super Melee but, dangit, leave the single-player story mode alone. You do not have to play Star Control, you know. If Guild Wars is so great, why don't you just go back to that game. Oh, that is until it goes out of business. In such a public system, you are at the mercy of whomever runs the game servers and gives you the game. That is one great flaw of MMO's. If the company that runs the servers goes out of business or otherwise shuts down, you no longer get to play. The company controls everything, there are so many "heros" so as to make the term meaningless, plus you have to pay regularly to continue playing. You must be suffering from some kind of delusion if you think online gaming is in any way superior to single-player games. Single player DOES NOT mean that you only play through it once and then forget it. It means you can play by yourself and go at your own pace, all without signing up. So, seriously, just go back to your MMO and grind some n00bs, because you obviously are not happy with the game we know and love. Draxas, I couldn't agree with you more. If you haven't played it, then you have NO business trying to make MMO's out to be some kind of plague that turns games into big grinding machines. I have every right to debate this with you. You, however, have no business dragging everything we love about Star Control through the mud. I must say, I am offended.

I like the idea of remaking SC2 with more modern graphics, but turning Star Control into an MMO?! Hell no. I've played the likes of EVE online. If I wanted a remake to be more like "today's games", I would just go play one of them. Give a more convenient multi-player system in Super Melee but, dangit, leave the single-player story mode alone.
Focus on improving the AI and its capability to interact with the player and game environment in single player and the game will be just as, if not more dynamic. You don't get ahead of the crowd by doing whatever it is everyone else seems to be doing, anyway.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Orz Translation

There is quite a bit speculation here. Spoiler warning and all that. I disagree with some of those. For instance, I don't think *fingers* refers to individual Orz. I always had the impression that *fingers* are the things Orz have that denote significance or social standing. When an Orz says "Orz are one with many *fingers*", that is probably his way of telling the captain how great he is.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Orz Translation

I have been thinking about the Orz and how they speak. Wouldn't it be cool if we had some place to talk about their many lingual anomalies? The topic of conversation this time is none other than Orz communications. We will each try to explain the Orz (or at least how best we think they can be explained) and then try to emulate the Orz ourselves. Allow me to demonstrate.
The Orz are beyond strange, but I think what they are doing is looking for allies, much like Captain Zelnick. By *pulling* *happy campers* into their native dimensions, they gain new inter-dimensional friends to help them cope with their enemies. That is why they must be *connected* for *camping*, because people in *heavy space* need help from the Orz to make the transition into those otherworldly dimensions. It is a *fat* topic, but should we try to be *absorbing*? Yes! It is *smiley time* I am sure! Let us *spit* words about Orz *cousins*.

Stop trivialising it! This is serious. You may be looking forward to regularly frolicking in sun-bathed meadows, but some of us who live just a hundred metres inland have waterfront views in prospect, doubling our house prices overnight! I think you mean house values. Or don't you own your own home? In that case, capitalistically speaking, you don't deserve a home because you haven't accrued enough worth. Besides, you can hardly see stars from the seafront, shouldn't you bee in the mountains somewhere? ...or feeding the furnace? Hey Zeratul! I thought you left the forum. Let's just say the occurrence of my leaving the forum is about as likely as the Ur-Quan are to become Supox-hugging hippies, donate the Sa-Matra to charity, and abandon the Path of Now and Forever. We're missing you in the other thread, please come back and reply.
I might, later, depending on how constructive I perceive the discussion to be. I will definitely need to see some diversity in opinions, though.

There is nothing serious about something that no one can even prove exists. It's all just a bunch of hyperbole.
