The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Project 6014 – Ur-Quan Masters mod

Yeah. And even if you lack such tecnology, the langauage still ain't a big deal. Similar examples have already took place. For instance, when Americas were discovered. It took a few months or so for Europeans to have some of their men learn a language of certain native American tribe. The problems can emerge when an alien you try to contact uses a different media for communication than one you use. And that media could be anything from mechanical and electromagnetic waves at specific frequency range to something utterly different.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: I've just had half an hour battle: Mycon vs Spatchi

The mycon's spore thing is a homing weapon. So it makes sense that if you fire it in the opposite direction to the enemy, the spore can hit you. I was just talking about the case that qwxy was describing; moving and firing towards the enemy, and hitting your own spore.
Haven't played for a while, but if my memory serves me well, it goes around you: and that makes sense. It can't fly in the opposite direction you launch it. At least not immediately -- since it's supposed to have some mass.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Re: Do you believe that aliens are monitoring earth?

No doubt there IS someone else somewhere. If the DNA could have shown up out of nothing (i mean out of lifeless H,C,N and O-atoms) here on Earth, I see no reason why could not the same thing happen somewhere else. As to me, the part with aliens monitoring us has no sense. It would take enormous effort to even reach someone who's 20LY or so away from you and you would achieve nothing important with it. We've all seen corpses of Grays on photos, altough they are the most probably fakes. Perhaps even a form of concealment. Secret services of some governments might monitor the citizens of Earth and blame Grays for doing it.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: How do I beat Sa-Matra?

Wow! I've just dodged all the crap and bumped right into the Sa-Matraaa! ...trice 'till now! Had all animat thrusters and turnin' jets installed... Oh, and 150 crew onboard! I got hit by an ugly green ball once or twice per final battle, but it didn't stop me.
EDIT: Ptunk or Pkunk, same thing. Depending on how fast and carefully you read in a game. Possibly error in typing a post too.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Announcing The Ur-Quan Masters 0.7.0

When you tell them about Organon at Beta Brahe, they tell you you have to go to Epsilon Scorpii where their main Homeworld is and talk to their leaders about Organon there. Beta Brehe is only a colony where they keep the Sun Device. That text line was missing from the 3DO version of SC2 and UQM. I thought it was added back into UQM 0.7.0, wasn't it?

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: VUX Standards of Beauty

If humans are so ugly, how could the VUX stand the Androsynth then? Androsynth look just like humans -- or almost just like humans at least. Since the Ur-Quan obliged the Hierarchy members to cooperate and assist each other, why didn't the VUX rather choose to get slave-shielded then?

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: blueprints for Earthling Cruisers

It's right there with you when the game starts, and it's fully crewed. That would mean either that only insignificant number of its crew was killed or that casualties were replaced by some crew members from the flagship. But what's even more confusing, the flagship is in full crew capacity too. So... I believe the ships were previously overcrowded because they wanted to take as many people they could, so they don't risk leaving most of the Unzervault's population stranded and exposed to Ur-Quan scouts in Vela system.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Couple of questions

1. There is an option on the set up menu to adjust the resources, but it says that this feature should be expected in a future edition. Is that correct?
Actually, I've wondered about this forever myself ever since I first came across UQM. What exactly is the "resource options" thing? I don't know what "resource options" was supposed to become in UQM, but I have a theory. In original SC2, resource.exe, which was included in the game diskette was a separate executable file which contained a massive text info on a game (planets, star coordinates, ships, races) written by TFB. It also exists in PDF format. Here's the link: http://cd.textfiles.com/pcgamesexe/pcge199807/STARCON2/MANUAL/RESOURCE.PDFAnd I guess I don't have to mention how much SPOILERS this thing has.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: The Vindicator

I doubt anyone even actually CAN make anything "more fancy" out of the Precursor thechnology 'cause the Precursors are supposed to be far more advanced and intelligent than anyone else in the Galaxy. Since the Melnorme buy info on rainbow world locations, we can assume that's the where they get Precursor technologies from. Still, I don't get it what do they need biological data for.

Quite possible. They claim that they collect Precursor stuff all over the quadrant. I believe their role in game is very important. Without all those things they know, Zelnick would unlikely be able to blow up the Sa-Matra. I also believe that the Precursors were smart enough to scatter their knowledge around the galaxy so no one could get it in one piece on one place after they're gone.
