It's not just your drive, my dvd drive won't read the 3DO disc either. It's not a big deal to me, since I liked the PC intro and ending better... but it would've been nice to have them there anyhoo.

I thought SC3 was a fun game. Granted I didn't think it was as good as the second game, but it was still a fun game.

I don't think all the voices could fit on 4 floppies.  

The battle voices were there, but the intermission ones were most assuredly not.

You can still beat the game without them, but if you really want the shofixiti, just go check the shofixiti home system about 6 months after you killed tanaka. And what ever you do, don't kill them.

Anyhoo, I like the songs and thought they added a lot to the atmosphere of the game. The yehat music is my favorite... so do it justice.  

I'd rather wait as well. Music is all about the feeling. If there's no life in the song, it's not gonna sound good.

That's exactly how it worked in the pc version. Changing the shp files only changed what you fought in melee. The proper race picture and conversations will still pop up.

For humor I used to do that on the PC version of the game. I'd try playing with different ships from the start by renaming the shp files.

It's either hamlet or caesar.

Anyhoo, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the zoqfot for worst ship. I can do significantly more damage with a drone than I can with a stinger.

Dunno; I've never had that problem until the second time I visit the planet.  They always tell me "Surprise! We noticed your interest in this planet...set a trap...blah blah blah".  This is PC-SC2 info though, so it might be one of the subtle differences between PC & 3DO.

I think you may be right. I remember once when I was playing the game( my first or second time through actually), that I freed the chmmr without talking to the Ilwrath. I've been trying to do it again, but it looked like there was no way. Someone with the original game installed should play through and try to confirm this.

I thought they said shofixiti's were more like marsupials.  

If Nic hadn't pointed it out, I would've. The defense behavior is being overridden by the mineral gathering behavior.

And if you accidentally blow him up, or he hits a planet and you haven't saved in a while,  just wait a few months for his brother katana to show up.

I forgot about the Harry Potter books. If you've not read them you should, you'll likely be surprised by them.

I also like alternate history books. Has anyone here read anything written by Harry Turtledove? Some of his work is pure 'what if' history, where some crucial decision that went wrong in real history was done right in the alternate timeline (or vice versa). The rest of his work is a sci-fi spin in the alternate time line. A good book to read, just as a fun read IMO, is Guns of the South.
