how old is that hyperwave caster they have? can you think of anything the human race has built that would last that long? Well, if it is located on the moon (I don't recall) and they can control it remotely, then it could survive for eons as long as its batteries didn't run out (assuming there's no atmosphere on said moon). If it was solar powered or something else rechargeable it would be fine. The only thing to worry about would by extreme cosmic radiation, but if it was properly shielded then that wouldn't be a concern either. It would be any controls located on their planet that they'd have to worry about; but perhaps the Shaggy Ones made this very simple and made of extremely light synthetics and taught them how to fix it/make a new one if it ever broke.

They would make their nearby Battle Thralls do all the dirty work when it came down to engaging tough spots (like the Alliance of Free Stars), so this would greatly lower Kzer-Za casualties compared to the loses the Kohr-Ah took. Good point. While the Kzer-Zah do have to deploy extra resources to slave shield rather than to just destroy, as well as maintaining a beauracracy for their Thralls, they do gain allies that make ensuing wars easier and reduce Kzer-Zah casualties. But in a fair fight with no Thralls involved, the warrior class wins pretty much by default. Why would you say that? Obviously, while each side has its own philosophical leanings, they both have warships that are the result of highly advanced technology. This is not hand-to-hand combat--as long as the warships are comparable, then the battle between the thinker and ther warrior will be even (one could even argue the thinkers would be better at strategizing, thus giving them the advantage; however both races are likely equal in this regard due to their thousands of years of combat experience).

Yes, but are they alive in our time, or in theirs? *Time* is so *tricky* for you *campers*... From all indications, while the Orz only speak in the present tense, their concept of time is the same as ours--they do say "and after this..." when speaking of events. Also, certain Orz quotes explicity say that the Taalo *slid* to run away from the Dnyarri. By this, it was always certain that the Taalo attempted to flee, but it was unclear whether they succeeded (and the *time tricks* thing added to the debate). Since TFB has stated the Taalo live, and imply that some role was planned for them in the sequel, there is not doubt that the Taalo are presnently alive in every sense of the word (though they may have changed drastically over time).

Well, you could always that that due to the physics of the matter, shield generators must be on the outside of the shield they generate. That actually seems realistic, as the shield must be generated from some point within the generator. Then the real problem becomes, why didn't they just have another set of shield generators to protect the original shield generators?? Yes, this is obviously because then we wouldn't have been able to beat the game ...but, there are some potential explanations (for instance, you can't have two shields in close proximity to one another because the frequencies would conflict and everything would go Boom, or something). Such explanations are far-fectched, but possible.

I have to say, the idea that the Orz are a drone race, with a collective conciousness is a lot more belivable to me than the idea that the Orz is an entity, that somehow projects itself into our entity. Yeah, I would also think that, however TFB has explicity said that the Orz is a projection of a singular entity. Here's a link to the famous chat (forgive me if this has already been posted, but I didn't see it): http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/history/files/scchatlog.txtThis is a great topic BTW; I've read through every post over the past few days. I'll add one hypothesis that I haven't seen anybody mention: What if the Taalo were the "ghosts" that the Androsynth were researching? While the Taalo *slid* out of Truespace, perhaps some vestigal remnants of themselves was left on their world as an imprint and manifests as apparitions; or, perhaps *pretty space* in this case is a parallel dimension where they would still present on their homeworld in some sense, but invisible to creatures in this dimension (this doesn't match with the little we know about *pretty space* though). I don't really believe that the ghosts are the Taalo, as the poltergeists appear to be either the "slashers" or the Orz, and clearly the Taalo wouldn't be either the "slashers" or the Orz. I did think the idea was interesting though.
