Am I the only one who thinks there should be pictures in the OP and doesn't see any?

Not to take away the limelight from the impending arrival of Star Control: Origins, but thought I'd point to a game very similar to Star Control 2 for those who like similar adventures. To be honest TLJH could as well be a lovechild of Star Control 2 and Lunar Lander, and regardless of it's rough controls it's a really addictive experience full of great ideas.

The game is a year old already, perhaps some of you guys may have played it. It's a new discovery for me, so if you have experiences or strategies to share I'd appreciate it.

Also, green stars are up for debate. Do they really exist? There are some stars which emanate the most in the green wavelengths, but human eyes will perceive these as yellow.

The globalists made the stars green! Or the Mmrnmhrm fine tuned some yellow ones so they are visibly green and perfect for organic development ... or something.

SC:O looks a bit Disney to me. But I wouldn't say one can't write a Star Control story with Disney-looking characters.

I'm on the opinion that every race in SC2 has a dark/disturbing quality to them in some way or another, and their interactions create puzzles to solve, mysteries to uncover, which is basically how a Star Control like setting is formed. What matters in regards of looks is being careful in regards of aesthetic diversity. In SC2 this meant not only using different tropes with comm screen graphics but different art styles, different ways of presentation. My worry regarding SC:O's looks is that it may not be able to recreate the variety of how SC2 races were presented, because it is already somewhat limited by 3D.

But I'm glad I saw nearly nothing about the story/conversations of SC:O so I couldn't say it sucks beforehand. I'm also too old to get worked up because it may have been made differently than I imagined.

Love 'em! Especially the Androsynth one.

I've joined the Protovision group quite recently, which is a bunch of C64 enthusiasts making and helping the development of C64 games. Maybe some time I can convince a composer there to make authentic SID versions.

BTW:

The Arilou soundtrack is probably the most compatible with SID sound. I'm not great with music software but I remember a time when I was experimenting with creating SID-like versions of SC2 themes. Right now I'm looking for MID versions so I can apply SID samples on midi notes with OpenMPT.

My longer answer is in the other thread, so shortly: dead.
42  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Project 6014--is this still a thing? on: September 10, 2016, 06:52:01 pm
The project died about 3-4 years ago with some early phantom limb movement, but this was predictable when the whole thing became Project 6014 Plus where community was valued over competence.

Given that Star Control is a quarter century old, this is the time everyone should forget the idea of a mod sequel anyway. There should be a Star Control adventure generator by now or at least an engine that would let anyone make their own SC sequel, because I grew to believe that large crews like ours was can not make a game like UQM.

Thanks! There's more coming. I was preoccupied with a certain game project, but now I've done doing that and my day job is also gone, so I have all the time Tongue
