Working on my own game so I have very little time for graphics, but I was thinking a lot about making more of these comm screen demake mockups, maybe animating them later -- even if only recreationally -- while I'm trying to strongarm a midi editor to chirp me some listenable tunes.

Starships resembles SC1 more than SC2, in its strategic part, but the rest is a turn based tactical game.

Wow, I didn't realize it was 10 years.
To be absolutely honest, I was taking Steve-O's comment at face value there. The wiki article on Star Control says that P6014 was started on February 2009.

Building SC2 was the Creator's *day job* for a few years though.
That's fine, but you have to admit that it takes focus and commitment to a project to actually finish it, which doesn't hinge on it being a day job or working for money out of contractual obligation. There are mod projects that required more content work and were completed in much less time under similar conditions. 10 years is waaay too long to be explained by gracious excuses, and it's kind of funny to still pretend that these delays are reasonable and there's no problem with how the project is managed at all.

Nah, I just somehow assumed you have some insider's info on story updates for upcoming demo versions. Left P6014 two years ago and it's pretty much unclear who's in or not in that project nowadays.

Why not ask the devs if it's coincidence or not?

A lot has changed since the release ...
Okay, like what? I'm curious.

And for ten years we never get bored with the same explanation: don't expect much, it's a huge project, nobody is getting paid, everybody is working in their spare time. Ask again next year, for the same results. Smiley

SC2 was huge as well, wasn't made by a big team either, buildt from scratch yet didn't take 10+ years to make it.

awesome stuff! got more?
Not from me at the moment. I was and still working on some pictures from NOMAD, another SC2-ish game.
I expect to work on some commercial stuff with Shiver Games early nex year.
When I return to SC themed art I'll probably try my hand with some UQM64 stuff.

I'd like to say thank you, nostromo, for putting effort into making a UQM-themed game, AND actually finishing it.

I think with all sincerity that getting out the fruits of wisely aimed ambitions can achieve more than hyping a huge project that never gets done. If you ever have another UQM themed game (or any other interesting project) and need assistance on the graphical art front, I'd be glad helping out if my time premits.

Does a brick wall waste time with eggs when they are are thrown at it? Seriously, not every nuance of narrative needs a confirmation in game mechanics.

@Jugger: making my own version and releasing it as a mod might be even better. Talking from experience, I'd rather not work with dczanik when the work involves his artistic vision.
