The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Re: Economic realities of the SC universe
|

I can't imagine the Mycon having anything resembling an economy, as I've said before. Mmrn, on the other hand, are really a mystery in that regard. There simply isn't enough source material to make an educated guess; all we have is the SC1 manual and some quick bits of history from SC2. However, we do know that they always were very close with the Chenjesu, even before the war, and that alliance had to have been founded on something. Trade seems like a likely stepping stone, which implies some sort of economy.
I'm just exiting lurker mode to rip this one out of context a bit; you're suggesting trade as a stepping stone to an alliance, I suggest necessity; the m-bots can't reproduce and the Chenjesu found it a logical course of action to fuse together. My guess is that they met at one point and both saw a benefit in working together, to a common goal; "evolution" the Chmmr might have been in planning stages for a while already, but just set back by an armada of Ur-Quan heading their direction. Okay, back in my corner now...

That's a Chenjesu imho, the bit that you've been drawing into a nice looking alien seems more like a control panel to me. But hey, they can both be Chenjesu, humans come in different shapes, sizes and colors too... Why they keep zapping each other to control their ship is a mystery to me though...

I saw this thread, and it prompted me to exit lurker mode and post something again. I remembered that way back, someone drew up some art of the Chenjesu. I absolutely loved that. The topic was http://forum.uqm.stack.nl/index.php?topic=3904.15 Mind you, it is a very old topic, and people have come and gone between now and then. What I said in that topic though still reflects what I think of the Chenjesu; they might have integrated some tech from another race to make their crystalline bodies move around. They may have been fully crystalline and "rigid" in the past, the only movement of an entity is that of "growing" into a place. Chenjesu ships may have taken them ages to grow in the past, but with gathered tech have allowed them to expand and grow more rapidly. So my opinion in short; gathered tech have made them more mobile, before that time, they moved by growing into place, their appearance being that of crystals. Feel free to ignore it though, I always love seeing your artwork...

ZFP <-> Ewoks
The little dudes that are used as scouts and are ferocious but small. Imagine Zelnick being trapped by 2 Urquan Dreadnoughts and 100s of Ewo... errr ZFP suddenly churning out from nowhere.
Druuge <-> IRS/any government taxing agency
Isn't this one obvious? The IRS taxes just about everything, forcing you into a life long labour only so you can retire at the age of 60something. Although they prefer that you die the day after your retirement though.
Ilwrath < -> little annoying kids that love to squish ants and/or burn them with a magnifying glass
Both very sadistic in nature, preying on stuff that shouldn't be able to hurt them.
Enemy home planet < -> traffic jam
Get in line and wait until it's your turn to go.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / artists: office sketch requested
|

Hey,
I've been lurking around for a while and I know there's some pretty skilled artists here, so it made me pop this request.
The company I work for has a real island mentality, like lots of big companies do. All the different departments have their own budgets and managers and such and basically internal communication is a mess.
For me it really made up the following view:
Imagine a couple of little and big islands. Put a palm tree or two on each, depending on how creative you are. On those islands, there's people screaming at each other on other islands, trying to get a message across.
On another small island, there's a dude sitting in a comfy chair watching tv doing nothing, apparantly unaware of the rest of the company.
On yet another island, there's a couple of "the suits" being all cozy with each other, drinking out of champagne glasses, toasting on yet another deal which they made and all the other islands have to clean up the shit from.
And on yet another island, there's a couple of people looking totally clueless. They have no idea what they are doing, how they got there, and what they're supposed to do. Some may even be hurling coconuts over to another island, just to see if they can hit anyone there.
Somewhere, there's a guy trying to swim over to another island of screaming people as well, followed by a shark.
As you can see, creativity enough, I'm just horrible when it comes to putting that creativity in any graphical form. If you're wondering where I fit in in this picture; I'm one of the dudes on an island screaming to other islands, without result.
My request to you; put this in a graphical form?

For as far as I know, Fred and Paul are onboard as spiritual advisors. They frequent these forums from time to time and have a chat with some of the current development crew and fans on this site.
As for unfinished quests, I have not really found anything that looks unfinished. Some people would of course want to find out what the rainbow worlds are for, who actually constructed the Mycon and how frungy is played, but some mysteries are better suited for one's imagination than to chew it out even further in a game. From what I have read and seen, this is what SCnot3 did.
Of course if you feel up to the challenge, you could always tackle the source code yourself and write the "missing" elements yourself.

Don't know... played the game for the first time, ran out of fuel.. got stranded somewhere and nothing happened. Maybe didn't wait long enough.. hehe...
I believe you have to meet the Melnorme in a system first before they come to your rescue (for a price).

If you're really liking it, I suggest you play through it first without cheating. It's a whole different experience calculating how much fuel/crew/ships/modules you need instead of the "oh, I ran out of fuel, time to load up the editor." If you're really really stuck, load up a previous savegame (and remember to save a lot in different slots, which will eliminate any need of cheating if you save well).

I do not think it would be genocide. I looked through the chmmr text file, and they don't say that there are no Chenjesu or Mmrnmhrm; however, didn't FF and/or PR3 say so?
Well, I love to read that. Valaggar, as one of the main contributors to the ultronomicon, you may know or have seen something in this fashion. I for one could not find any reference to it. Perhaps you have better luck?
