The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: The end game

THIS WILL HAVE SPOILERS!!! I'll try to leave out a lot of plot spoilers, and be general, but warning nonetheless.
Here is some non-spoiler advice: there are two types of star ships which are by far plain superior to anything else you will get. One can easily destroy a Dreadnought or a Marauder and the other can destroy every other type of ship. They are the Eluder and the Terminator. I won't tell you which races give them, but they are the MOST powerful ships in the game by far, in my opinion (I haven't used the Avatar yet.)
A final piece of advice: Buy all of the technology that the Melnorme sell. Your flagship will get so insanely powerful that you'll laugh at a Kohr Ah ship. Seriously.
I hope I didn't spoil anything, but gave helpful advice.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Distance in Star Control 2 vs. Real Life
|

So today I was just reading about the 1933 World's Fair in Chicago, when they mentioned it started with the light from Arcturus appearing on the horizon. I decided "Hey! That's in Star Control 2! Let's read about it in real life!"
I looked it up, and lo and behold it's a whopping 36.7 light years from Earth. "That's odd," I thought to myself "It's one of the furthest away in Star Control 2. Maybe all of the selected stars are just really close."
So I looked up Vega, which is only 25 light years from Earth. That does kind of fit, it is closer in game. I looked up Zeta Persei next, thinking that it is fairly close to Arcturus in game, so what's it like in real life? It's 750 light years away.
Of course I understand that the game creators didn't distance stars based upon real distance (hence Alpha Centauri, all 4 light years away, being relatively far in SC2,) but I just find it kind of funny how far away some of them are. Although this way, it is SO much easier to find stars (because of them being grouped by constellations.)
Just thought I'd share.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Steam Greenlight?

I just found this game recently, from the Yogscast videos you mentioned, and I'm so glad that I did. I think publicity would be great, because this is an absolute gem (almost like a Tzo Crystal (aaaaaaaaaaaah!))
But concerning a Steam Greenlight: even if it is apparently legal to start one from the community, it is highly advisable to get consent from the original creators. I say apparently legal because someone down the line who wrote one word of dialogue in the original release may sue the tits off of everyone involved.

I'm gonna try this. Hopefully this works. I also might just hook up my laptop to a massively high res monitor. Honestly, I'm really amazed at the lack of fatal bugs overall in the HD. I've only seen two. Thanks for the help guys! I really appreciate being new to something and getting such great support

Let it catch up to you, enter battle with your flagship, and flyyyyyyy as far away from it as you can. This won't be far cuz it seems like you're slower than it is. As soon as you can, hit the escape key and you'll zip out of the battle after about 5 seconds. You'll lose a few men but be safe.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Quasi-Space Won't Work D: Help

Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by.
Anyway, I have a severe issue with the game that I really don't understand. I can't tell if it is a bug or user error, though I'm guessing user error since I'm new and have not come across anyone else with the same problem.
When I try to enter Quasi-Space for the first time from Hyper Space, I can't. I go near the portal that appears on the 17th in Arilou space, and drive my ship into it. Then I am taken straight to the main menu, no dialogue, no special sounds, just straight to the menu.
Upon first researching why, it seemed it was because I hadn't actually heard of the portal in game (I observed it "north" of Circini on my own.) Then, I accidentally heard about it from someone in game and tried again (I forget who.) So, I tried again and the issue happened again. Next, I thought it was a save/time issue (I had only realized it in 2159, though the Kohr Ah hadn't started the death march yet.) I loaded a save from 2157 and it didn't work. Finally, I tried a new save and went there in 2155 after allying and talking to the Spathi about it. And still, I'm sent straight to the main menu.
Is this normal? What should I do?
I am using the HD Ur Quan Masters Mod, HiRes 2x graphics.
