1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Minor Spoiler: Zoq-Fot-Pik ?? on: April 14, 2003, 08:55:48 pm
In the beginning of the game after a while the Starbase Captain tells of some radiowaves from Rigel. When I go there, I find a Zoq-Fot-Pik. They ask me to visit their homeworld. I go to their homesystem and in hyperspace get some 10 ships around me. One of them eventually catches me, and it turns out to be Ur-Quan, usually Kohr-Ah.

When I played an older version (0.18 I think) I didn't see any Ur-Quan in hyperspace.

Any ideas?

Of course, but I think that ties into the 'favorite character' category, don't you? ;>

Oops.

Excellent reply, Azzizi, but i think you forgot the most important factor that keeps all of us playing UQM: Fwiffo.

4  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: What other favorites do UQM fans have? on: April 10, 2003, 11:35:05 pm
I like the following, in no specifig order.

UQM / SC2  naturally  Wink
Rivercity Ransom (NES) - a good mix of RPG-style and beat 'em'up
Final Fantasy VI (SNES) - the best FF there is.
ADOM (PC) - 'nuff said
Nethack (PC) - 'nuff said
The UnReal World (PC) - A great "roguelike", much different than others and made in finland. http://www.iki.fi/urw if you want to know more.

The game I dislike most is...
yes, you're right.
Counter-Strike and other cheesy Half-Life mods, that have caused severe addiction among my peers. Thank God I am not one of them, drooling at 2am playing Counter-Strike. "Wow, headshot! 1337 1337. plz lol".

I prefer drooling at 2am playing UQM. "My eternal gratitude is yours, oh devastator of helpless beings. It's times like these that I am forced to feel almost, though not quite, sorry that the Ur-Quan so thoroughly defeated and humiliated your species. ------ That settles it, for now I am certain that you are an honest and friendly being who is forced entirely through unfortunate circumstance - the unreasonable hostility of the Universe to travel the galaxy in a ship which, according to my sensors is best suited to conducting planetary-scale genocide."

5  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Linux, UQM only shows black screen... on: April 10, 2003, 11:15:22 pm
I downloaded the zip files and statically linked (whatever that means) installer, after some CHMODding ran the .sh file and managed to install the game. Now, when I launch the executable it opens a window with the correct title, but the contents of the window is just black with it's own inverted cursor.

What could be the problem  Huh ?

I'm still pretty much a beginner with Linux, so please be specific.  Tongue
I am running Mandrake Linux 9.1 with KDE 3.1.
