121  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Ur-Quan Psychology 101 on: April 15, 2003, 10:31:54 pm
Well when I play it's more like this:

"So captain, how fares the battle against he Ur-Quan?"

"Well, I've been killing tons of VUX lately. Look at all the VUX salvage parts I have in my storage!"

"Excellent captain! So you're taking out the Hierarchy allies first?"

"Allies? who... oh the VUX?? No, I just do it for the RU. It's much safer then getting down to those planets.
Although I don't think it's healthy for Fwiffo's mental health..."

Fwiffo: "VVV... VVV... VVV... VVVUX... VVV..."

I might be wrong, but I think the Syreen space cities didn't have Hyperspace ability when the Alliance first met them.
So the Syreen weren't much more advanced then the Humans.

Gameplay gentleman!
Of course, I prefer it when the game give some kind of logical reason, but at the end it gameplay that counts.

Having unlimited RU, all the ships, or an even bigger better supership might SOUND nice cool and fun, but at the end it's not.

Of course, we can still guess for some kind of "logical" reason for all that... Smiley

I just said that the chances that it happened naturally are SOOOO slime that I'll believe someone who'll blame the Ur-quan for that before I'll believe it's a coincidence.

IMO, SC3 was a decent game, but not even close to be as good as SC2. That's why I hope for another sequel to rise up instead of SC3.

BTW, I liked the SC3 voice acting much more then the SC2 3DO (and now UQM) voice acting.. Smiley

The Spathi and VUX might look similar, but Humans and Syreen can reproduce and create a Hybrid!
If you can call it a Hybrid at all.. After all according to science if two creatures can have fertile offspring then they're of the same species.
Sure the skin and eye color is different, but hey - we have those on earth already! White people, black people, yellow people and they all have different eye colors. The fact it, the genetic difference between the Humans and Syreen is VERY small.

Now when it comes to the Arilou, we don't know if we're genetically close to them or not. All we know is that they look a bit like us, with two eyes, one head and all that. But half the Galaxy looks like that in SC2....

So it might be a coincidence that Human and Syreen have the same DNA, it's even possible in the real world, but that chances are SOOOOOOOOO small, that it's more likely that the Ur-quan are responsible for it somehow Smiley

As far as I know the Precursor disappeared 300,000 years ago, and appeared shortly before that.
You're right about the Ur-quan enslavement period.

There are several problems with the idea that the Ur-quan might change their minds:
A) They are right. Really, if any other race would be either enslaved or annihilated, there is no chance that the Ur-quan would be enslaved.
B) It worked for 20,000 years. All that time, no one defeated either the Ur-quan, or the Kohr-ah (that didn't even had the Sa-matra to help them!) So after 20,000 years, what's one failure??
Not to mention that it was only the Kzer-za doctrine that failed - their slaves raised against them and defeated them.
I can see the Kohr-ah saying "I told you so" to any Kzer-za they meet. After all, dead races can't come back and kill you.
128  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: The Arilou sphere of Influence -Why? on: April 12, 2003, 01:05:15 am
I tend to accept Culture20 and Shiver's explanation- they just hung around to catch *Nnngn*.
I might be giving the Arilou too much credit, but I believe they know what's going on better then the Melnorme, or anyone else.
If someone would ever think of sending a fleet to attack the Arilou through the portal, they'll probably have some kind of nasty surprise. A giant fleet of Skiffs, or maybe they'll just disappear without a trace...
I also like the idea (can't find who suggested it) that the Arilou keep some ships around to make sure the Umgah don't get it.
The Arilou won't need much of a fleet for that, and keeping the Umgah away is certainly a good and healthy idea, especially if the Arilou can have heart attacks...

1.What kind of poster you are:
New. To this board at list, I guess I just moved here from the pretty dead TW board, probably after everyone else did the same...
When I'm into it, I post like made and a lot. We'll see how interesting this place would be, hopefully it would.

2. Best moment in SC2:
Hmm... There were lots of parts that I liked... umm... when Tanaka return to the starbase with all his kids, when the Yehat joined me, when the Yehat and Pkunk sent help before the last battle, and when I've found the Arilou.
Another moment that really effected me is when I've met the Yehat for the first time. I was REALLY happy to find my allies and their strong terminators, and it got me really upset when I've found out that they betrayed me.

3. Favorite book ever (one or several):
The Wheel of Time, Ender's game, Death gate, Dragon Lace, Hyperion.

4. One hobby:
I like Transformers a lot, read TF comics and watching episodes, I hope it counts.
I also enjoy having ideas for a SC2 sequel, which is why I joined the TW team - to write a plot for the new game.

5. What you are/want to become in the real world:
I have no idea... My directions include advertising, programming, and writing... I really have no idea.

6. A fun fact about yourselves:
I see Chad wrote that he like Transformers in this field, but it would be unfair if I'll fill to fields with the same thing, right?
Oh, I know what might qualify- I use Word's Spell-Checker on every post I write, and people still complain about my English. I guess I just can't deal with all those times, In Hebrew there are only 3...

7. Anything else that feels valid and important:
At the spirit of warning that goes around here, I'll say this:
Beware of *THEM*!!!
130  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Why do Arilou favor Earthlings over Syreen? on: April 11, 2003, 01:57:50 am
I don't know if ErekLich saw it in the old TW forums, but in a similar discussion there an idea was brought up that the Human and Syreen are the same race, and one group was transferred to the another planet. The Humans had experiments done to them, while the Syreen are a control group.
When you think about it, maybe both groups had experiments done to them, but the Syreen project failed, the Human project didn't... yet...
Maybe there are more almost-Human races out there, other experiments and projects of the Arilou.

As for the Synth, we don't know if the Arilou didn't care for them at all, but after all the changes we made to our "children" maybe we ruined what the Arilou find interesting in our race.
Also, the Synth can only reproduce by cloning themselves, which mean that they don't evolve unless they'll mess with their genes, so they might again ruin anything the Arilou would try to do.

Another interesting possibility that just occurred to me- what if it's not just Humans that the Arilou are interested in, but earth as well. Our planet might be some kind of "slippery place" or just a big Arilou device, and one thing the Syreen and Synth definitely have different then Humans is that they don't live on earth.
To support this, I don't remember that the Arilou showed any real interest in the earthling colony on Vega. All they care about are the Humans on earth, and the things that effect them.
