1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: UQM HD spanning both monitors. is there a way to force it to main monitor? on: November 09, 2013, 04:10:12 am
well, i have my laptop monitor, which is chosen in the settings as the main monitor, and the HDMI monitor next to it that is set us as secondary...its usually how i like it set up, so i can do my browsing on one and watch videos on the other...

when i play UQM, if i use the full screen mode, the game is split in half between both monitors, so its full resolution, but half is on one and half is on the other...if i use windowed mode, the bottom inch is cut off so i cannot see what is on the radar when i deploy drop ships to planets, or if i navigate, i cant see my ship until i move it out of the area that is cut off...

this is annoying because i cannot resize the window so it is all in view, nor can i go full screen because it spans both monitors...i guess for now until there is a workaround or the settings are more inclusive, i will have to try playing full screen on just the main monitor...

3  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: UQM HD mod in linux mint...how do you install the HD content? on: November 07, 2013, 04:08:37 am
ok, i think i know what the problem is...after looking at the download directories, and homing in on the specific debian downloads, i think the above package is the wrong one (even though it was the one on top)...so im downloading the ones specifically for raring to see what happens...

will find out in a few minutes if my suspicion is correct...

yep...it is the wrong package...downloaded the correct one and it is working fine...

5  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: UQM HD mod in linux mint...how do you install the HD content? on: November 07, 2013, 03:43:59 am
ok, heres the thing im trying to do, i want to know how to get the game to use these files for HD...simply letting gdebi install the files doesnt do anything, if i play UQM, then its still in the old low resolution original content...there is nothing in the menu that i can see that would let me use the new HD content...
6  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: UQM HD mod in linux mint...how do you install the HD content? on: November 07, 2013, 02:52:19 am
no i am not extracting anything...however, the UQM HD package for debian is extracted by gdebi into its own folder, thats not my doing, thats gdebi doing that... just the content, and it is not compiled to run with the existing application package from synaptic, again, its only extracting the content into ist own folders right next to the original game directory...i dont get why its doing that, but it is...

so, i was asking if i could possibly just write a script so the existing application can see the new content folder, or if i need to recompile UQM HD by itelf from the source just to get the HD version running...Huh

or do i just copy and paste the directories into their proper places? what is the next step?

again so its not confusing...i downloaded and installed the packages for the original game compiled for debian on synaptic and it ran fine, but it was a bit blurry and not really my cup of tea, so...

next thing i did was download the HD content package for debian and run it in gdebi...which only just extracted it into a seperate directory...

then i opened the shell script that points to UQM and the content directory of the original game, and attempted to edit it to point at the new HD content, but it just crashed to the desktop when it tried to access it, so i looked at the folder structure and noticed that it was not the same as the original content structure, which does not surprise me since windows version is the same...

now i am trying to see if i can run it as is just by pointing the shell script to the proper directory, or if not then what sould i do?

1: find the correct package that updates the debian package to work with the new content?

2: put the correct values into the shell script so the existing application can use the HD conent?

or

3: recompile it entirely so it runs on this system in HD to begin with?

those are the only options i can think of to get it working...

i am currently trying to figure out if the recompile is the best method...downloading source to read-only

7  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: UQM HD mod in linux mint...how do you install the HD content? on: November 07, 2013, 12:35:15 am
mint 15, yes it is raring...and i used the packages for ubuntu that were on the synaptic software  manager...everything including the HD package passed the dependency check...

but that is not the issue, the issue is how do i install the new HD content into the ubuntu version of the game? i also used an ubuntu package for that as well, but it only unzipped the files into its own directory instead of the original game directory...for example...UQM and UQM HD are right next to each other in the directory, but the folder structure is only the same as far as "content" folder, then once you get deeper into each one, they are very different, which is normal considering the HD folder structure has to be set up differently, it was also the same for the windows version of UQM HD...

so im guessing a modified application or script needs to be run to recognize not only the content but the difference in folder structure...otherwise its just going to sit there...

so i guess im asking if anyone has a modified script to run in place of the original that will recognize the new content and enable the application to see all the content and use it? or does someone know what lines i have to add to the original script to do the same thing? or is it not as simple as that?
8  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / UQM HD mod in linux mint...how do you install the HD content? on: November 06, 2013, 10:35:15 am
i might be going about this entirely the wrong way...but i thought before i go mucking up the actual content folder, i would try editing the shell script and change the content directory entry to point at the new content...but i get a black screen, then the application freezes, then shuts down with no error...so...

how do i install the HD content? i can run the game fine without it, but i have been anticipating this now for a long time and would really like to see the UQM in all its HD glory...
