76  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: 0.3a   when? on: May 25, 2003, 10:17:24 pm
Although I'll admit that I also wonder when 0.3a will be released, I have to say that I'm even MORE interested to know what sort of changes we can expect for 0.3a.

I wonder if it'll have the intro and ending working by then?
77  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Ilwrath Huntin' on: May 08, 2003, 05:42:13 pm
Well, I personally go for the Zoq-Fot-Pik in this case.  The other ships can be potentially faster at killing the Ilwrath, but the ZFP is probably the easiest.

First of all, realize this: the Ilwrath Avenger is slow as a no-legged hedgehog in a bucket of molasses compared to your ZFP ship.  You can easily outmaneuver it.  Just make sure you don't get into range of its Hellfire cannon and you're fine... and since you can outmaneuver it so easily, that shouldn't be a huge problem unless you run into an unexpected planet or asteroid or something.

Next, as already stated, you can estimate the Ilwrath position - it's always in the opposite position relative to yours on the screen.

The ZFP secondary attack is useless against the Ilwrath due to its short range, but the primary gun works wonders.  Although you can estimate the Ilwrath position, it can still be difficult to get the position exactly right.  However, the ZFP primary gun fires a SPREAD of shots, so you just aim in the generally right direction and let rip.  Keep thrusting and changing course occasionally to make sure you don't drift out of or into range, and you'll be able to slowly rip the Ilwrath apart without ever being hit yourself.

Yeah, it's slow, but it works fine for me.
78  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: About the Commander telling u about the Urquan on: May 06, 2003, 12:26:45 am
First of all, it was any structure older than 500 years - so not very old, considering.

And things that were vaporized included a large swathe of the Atlantic ocean floor, stonehenge, etc...

Atlantic ocean floor?  Could they perhaps be wiping out Atlantis?

It seems to me that whatever they're doing, it is likely to be intended to prevent the humans escaping, and to deal a moral blow to humanity.

Perhaps a lot of these old, 'mystic' places got close to achieving some sort of power that could be dangerous to the Ur-Quan?  Guess we'll never know...
79  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Orz! on: May 05, 2003, 07:26:53 pm
The Orz!

I mean, these guys are terrifying...

I'd love to have a movie where you see an Orz ship blasting away at an enemy craft... maybe a superheated Mycon ship, or a VUX Intruder, or perhaps even an Ur-Quan Marauder or Dreadnaught...

Then you see inside the launch-bay of the Orz ship, where a large team of massive space-suit wearing Orz marines are standing.  And with cries of "GO! GO!" they leap from the back, trails of ionized gases behind them as they roar towards the enemy ship, dodging fire from both craft before slamming onto the hull...

Then you get an interior shot as the Orz blast a hole into the hull and storm in, weilding sizzling weapons and having masses of gunfire simply bounce off their armour.  They storm through the ship, slaughtering alien troops left and right, eventually breaking through the secure bulkhead into the cockpit... taking out the captain's bodyguard... then the captain himself...

Lastly, they walk up to the control panel, input something... then blast out of the ship, which explodes into a huge fireball just behind them.

Now... just try and tell me that wouldn't be cool??

Thanks a million!  I appreciate the help. Smiley
81  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Keys... on: April 30, 2003, 08:46:44 pm
For some reason, I can't change the UQM key configuration.  I've edited the keys.cfg file as asked (I'm using Win98).  The changes are saved and everything, but dont' seem to have any effect.

Instead of space and Right Control for Player 1, I wanted to use the . and / keys... but it just won't work.

Can anyone help me out with this?
82  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / I'm impressed on: April 21, 2003, 06:20:08 pm
As a huge Starcontrol 2 fan, who has never been able to get the game to work in Windows 98 with sound, I have to say I'm really impressed and happy to see someone working on this remake.  I plan to download it as soon as I get time.

I just hope you guys get a 1.0 version working soon.  I'd be ecstatc.  Keep up the great work!
