I am exploring all the planets close by first for resourses that don't require insane flying skills to gather the resources. i venture into ilwrath space. Here I meet the ilwrath ships. Is there any way I could beat them easily using either the zoq, earthling, spathi or orz ships?

In the single player game is it possible to get shields and stuff for your lander? I was exploring the Alpha Centauri System and the planets there are absolutely insane to navigate! There must be a more safer method to gather minerals, so that the Space Yard Captain doesn't complain all the time. (I would some of these systems are close to Sol, but I shouldn't be too picky).  Is there a system that people use that can effectively get minerals without wasting too many resources?

I have a few questions about melee fighting. For example, if you are fighting the Ur-Quan and you are those crystal guys, how do you manage to win. The red bastards easily destroy my ship, however when I try being the Ur-Quan the computer has no problem beating me...is there any advice you can give me? In general how does one defeat the Ur-Quan ships in melee mode? Especially when they launch pods.

If anyone could also give me some pointers fighting the ships with the 3 satellites orbiting them I would also appreciate it.

As you can see I am a neophyte in this game, and I got hooked after my brother mentioned it was the best game of his childhood.
