@Grand Master Planet Eater, the original UQM game (where I got the sprites from) is "released under the GNU General Public License. The content (voiceovers, dialogue, graphics, sounds, and music) may be used freely under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 license" (see http://wiki.uqm.stack.nl/The_Ur-Quan_Masters_Project_FAQ#Under_what_license_is_the_game_released.3F).

I'd love if there was a whole mini-ecosystem of spin-off casual games. E.g.:
- Fwiffo in a grid-based roguelike or dungeon crawl game
- A Shofixti scout in some kind of simple scrolling race game
- A strategy game based around the Yehat civil war
etc.

Just letting you know that there's a very simple, casual UQM-themed game on the Google Play Store called "Urquan Parking" where you play the part of disgraced Ur-quan Lord whose punishment for failure is a new job pushing various SC ships into parking spaces back at the starbase. You can bump or shoot 'em, but try not to blow them up!
