1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Question about the Chmmr on: December 02, 2003, 04:45:23 pm
Hey! Spathi are smart! They got from bronze age to "today" only in 3 centuries! (or something like that...), bad example to deny the shield point.

I don't deny the spathi are smart. I just don't think they are advanced enought to understand really complex Ur-Quan tech. And they figure out how to create slave shields in a couple of years by studying the Earth's shield, and the Chenjesu/Mrhrhwhatever could penetrate them after a similar amount of time (presumably). Now that I think of it, the shields must be low-tech by Ur-Quan standards. With their hundreds of thousands of years of spacefaring, they should be able to make something that is harder to figure out...

As for your other point, I don't think the Kzer-Za thought anyone in the quadrand as a much of a threath expect the Kohr-Ah, to which they were hopelessly outnumbered after the costly Alliance-Hierarchy war (and did the Kzer-Za know of the Utwig/Supox? I remember that they had encountered only Kohr-Ah vessels, not the Kzer-Za).

I often lose almost as many ships to Furies in Super Melee as I lose to Avatars (which is half my fleet if I don't have a Marauder or a Scout with which to blow up their point defense satellites)...

Third term in the slave agreement was that the enslaved race is not allowed to have spaceships. The Ilwrath captain that enters Sol once you've investigated the moonbase says that this is 'in direct violation of the Oath of Fealty', I think.

They were busy with the Doctrinal Conflict (which also might mean they did not check the starbase regularly).

They probably negletted the mainteinance of all starbases, judging by the condition of Earth's, and there's nothing to suggest that they would have bothered to check on them otherwise (on a second thought, did they maintain the Syreen starbase? That is near enought to them that they could have done that, as opposed to the Earthling and Chenjesu/Mrhrwhatever starbases that were on the other side of the quadrand).

The Ur-Quan would unlikely care that some race went from a starbase to their planet. That doesn't necessarily mean they can come out again.

Not necessarily, but if I were the Ur-Quan, I'd check to make sure. The slave shields were supposed to be unpenetratable without Ur-Quan level tech (then again, the Spathi managed to slave shield themselves, so...).

I feel that points 1 and 4 are valid, and that the Ur-Quan most likely didn't know about the sun device.

I find myself agreeing also with AnonomouSpathi's points.

Also, I haven't talked to the Chmmr myself (got bored of the normal game mode before getting to that point, and I know most of the plot anyways since I've done a lot of reading in the forums), but did they indeed know of the Doctrinal Conflict?

Pen and paper has been enought for me. Not that an in-game notebook wouldn't be a good idea.

Hey Sage, the map displays all the numbers to me in a font that highly resembles the old Scandinavian runic alphabet.

Someone else here likes Spidweb games too?

Generforges also have better plot than I've seen in any other game I've ever played (at least in my opinion).

You can't play anything with 600 Mhz? Morrowind runs quite well on my 500 Mhz and Radeon 7500.

Earthlings are one of the best ships to gravity whip with -- maybe the problem is that by the time you get close to the planet you're being attacked and dodge into the planet? Or are you fighting Druuge or Chmmr and are pushed/pulled into the planet?

I'm probably just plain inept at using gravity whipping to my advantage. I do okay without it with most ships.

Mine's favourite is the Spathi Eluder. I can't ever hit anything with it's main gun, but it's fairly easy for a reasonably skilled player to B.U.T.T Dreads and Marauders to death while dodging their shots.

Second comes the Zoq-Fot-Piq, since it eats Dreadnaughts for breakfast and can do reasonably well against most other ships due to it's maneuverability, speed and long-range main gun.

Third is the Utwig Jugger - even in hands of a beginner, it can easily destroy Dreadnaughts without taking a scratch.

Fourth comes the Pkunk Fury, due to it's superior maneuverability and speed, plus the style factor.

Fifth would be the Traddash Torch, at least against AI, since it can reach great speeds with it's afterburner and also use it to destroy enemy ships. The main gun is quite useless.

I especially hate Earthling Cruisers. I recall that only fight I've won with one was against the undercrewed Avenger without cloaking device you have to fight at the start. I just can't get those bathubs move anywhere fast enought. My attempts to use planet gravity to my advantage usually result in me getting stuck in the gravity well and slamming into the planet until I die.
10  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Which ships do you use against Whom? on: May 20, 2003, 04:03:34 pm
Traddash vs. Yehat AI. Lure AI Yehat ships into the afterburner exhaust.

Any ship w/ powerful or fast ROF weapon vs. Traddash AI. If you just stand still, the Traddash AI tends to charge straight at you. When they're at nearly point blank range, open fire. Changes are that the Traddash ship is toasted.

ZFP vs. Ur-Quan. Wear them down by shooting their fighters with the antimatter gun and then finish the job with a tongue attack.

Supox vs. Ur-Quan. Same tactics as with ZFP, just without the tongue attack.

Utwig vs. Ur-Quan. Go to point blank range and let them empty their batteries against your shield, then go trigger happy. This might work against Kohr-Ah too, but I haven't tested.

Spathi vs. Ur-Quan/Kohr-Ah. Evade their shots and B.U.T.T them to death.

Pkunk vs. pretty much anything. Hit and run. Fly by the enemy, shoot it with the multi-directional cannon, reload and repeat.
Pkunk ships are also quite effecient at destroying Ur-Quan fighters.

Makes you wonder how they "examine" the earthlings so easily...

I don't think they 'examine' the earthlings by attacking armed starships...
