1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Ever thought about... on: June 10, 2003, 08:45:07 am
Even if she IS back in b8tch mode... I don't worry about her trying to use her Kohr-Ah violence on me. Being an imaginary cartoon character, I have no reason to fear any kind of agression from beings in the Real Universe(*), no matter how much firepower is used on me, I'll always be back for the next episode.

Ha!  Cool

(*) I wonder how it was created, by the way...  Wink

Mika, you are THE man... I can't believe I didn't know how Winzip works  :-/

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!! I CAN PLAY UQM!!!!!

Thanks again

Ps: Is there a way to delete a topic from the forum which has been resolved, so it won't take up space?
3  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: how do YOU introduce SC to your freinds? on: June 07, 2003, 09:34:11 pm
Just one thought Phasics: All is fair in love and SC!!!
4  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: Help Installing! on: June 07, 2003, 02:58:58 am
Yeah, I could do that (unpacking the zip), but... the content.zip has 11,500 files in it, and they have to be distributed in the subfolders for each race and there's lots of files which are just numbers, so no clue as to where to unpack them.
I think the only solution is to (somehow) get the installer to work for me, so if anyone knows...
Thanks anyway Mika
5  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Re: Help Installing! on: June 07, 2003, 01:40:38 am
Ok, I did that...
When choosing components, I select "Install data files", "Install voice files" and "Install 3DO music"
In the next step, I select "Use local package directory", but at the same time I have to choose either to "Skip these components" which is no good, or "Download and Install from internet". Now, in theory, this option should only download that which I don't have in my computer. However, the installer still tries to download the files and fails. It doesn't even try to check the .zip files I have in the folder...

WHY???
6  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: The Matrix has SC2 on: June 07, 2003, 12:35:31 am
Well, sorry for ruining the surprise of the 3rd movie, but...
Actually, agent Smith is an Ur-Quan slave, and when he kills Neo, the Quans feel safe enough to come down to the surface and show their ugly faces.

Well, first I downloaded the v2.2 installer, but when I run it, it says that it can't dload the contents, nor the voices, nor the 3DO music.
Hence, I downloaded manually the .zip files for the content, voices and music. The question is... What next? I've searched the forum and the sites and didn't find anything helpful. Plus, the zip file doesn't include a help file, or a readme file... Just A LOT of .png
Where should I unzip them???
Thanks
8  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: THE YEHAT HAS YOU! on: June 06, 2003, 08:16:06 pm
If it came down to it, I would definitely eat a roasted Yehat...
Or even a Mycon (maybe they taste like mushrooms)...

Still, what's the need of using the actual name "Star Control"?
I know it means a lot and everything, but wouldn't you prefer that Toys For Bob released a "very familiar" game, with the name... "Star Controlle", or something like that?
Is that possible?
Can you think of any other names?
Wink
10  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Desperate cry for help (not too loud, though) on: June 05, 2003, 03:22:54 am
thanks guesst, but what is PNF?
and nascarfan, you are also missing the point. Roll Eyes The starmap in SC2 is not to make the game easier, it's actually to ENTER the game. I'd love to make it really hard and challenging, but I'm getting really old and I'm not able to play at all.  :-/
11  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Desperate cry for help (not too loud, though) on: June 04, 2003, 09:46:07 am
I did so. However, the UQM v2.2 was crashing whenever I entered melee. I searched the forum, but I couldn't find a solution, so I decided to wait for v3.0
In the meantime, I'd like to go back to my childhood with the old versions of SC

I know this forum is supposed to be for discussion, but my problem is not really technical, so I'm aiming at your good will and compassion for mankind.
I haven't been able to play any of the SC games in ages, and I finally got my hands on a copy of SC1 and SC2...
The problem is I don't have either the pass codes (to start the game) or a working crack.
If anyone could tell me where to get them, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!
13  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: How was the real universe created? on: June 04, 2003, 12:22:00 am
Totally true, Ultimate_Evil !!!
I couldn't put that into words, but it's evident that in the long run, distance^2 (or radius^2) beats all other factors in both gravity and brightness equations.
14  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: How was the real universe created? on: June 02, 2003, 11:54:37 pm
First of all, I agree with the RainMan... All this discussion as to wether the universe is finite, infinte, flat, donut-shaped or inside a pickle jar is beside the point. I’d like to focus again on the original question, and for that I'll try and put my clumsy thoughts into even clumsier words. One of the unavoidable factors in this discussion is the language that we use. I don’t think we are refering to the same thing when we say ‘Universe’.
To the question "How was the real universe created?", I follow it with another question, "What do you mean by 'Universe'?"
There are many many definitions for the word 'Universe'. I can think of at least 3:
a) The Geographic (or physical) explanation: In which ‘Universe’ is infinite space (and everything in it).
b) The Mathematical one: where universe is the same an infinite group (of whatever), and
c) The "perceptive" one: In which our universe is anything and everything that is within our area of perception-influence-explanation. This would mean 'Universe' is another term to mention 'Reality'. If there are things outside (and probably there are), they are not part of our universe.
Using this explanation, the obvious way to go (for me) is to answer the original question "How was the real universe created?", it's as simple as "We created it". We created it and continue to create it all the time by reaching towards the limits of our perception and observing, defining and trying to explain what we find inside. As to the things that (obviously) exist outside, they don't fit into our definition of 'Universe', so they don't need to be in the answer.

I definitely don’t feel qualified enough to talk about either physics or mathematics (or about anything alse, for that matter)

Please, someone enlighten a small ignorant man (with as few big words as possible)
