The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Another Attempt at a Sequel

Hello Everyone, This is just something I've been tinkering with since around March or so, hopefully I can develop something that you guys can play. I've been able to locate various "fan art" for the ship models, and used some source code from UQM like the star maps, and how planetary elements are generated. I'm off on a bit of a non-functional development tangent right now, trying to add particle effects to the earthling nuke missiles, and chmmr lasers, but after that will implement TCP/IP so that at least there is a playable part for the public to test with. However, all those star systems in the map are navigable, there's something under 5000 unique systems in there. Don't be too critical, this is my version of somebody building a ship in a bottle, or putting models together in their spare time. I'm by no means a professional game developer, I'm merely learning it as I go along. Oh yeah, the end product will be open source (as I have no choice) - I've just put other people's work together here to create the environment. | | | These stars are actually "twinkling" | | | | | |

There are two points where I can tell that your tale is bullshit:
- There is never a point when Ur-Quan ships can show up near Spathiwa, or anywhere in Spathi space for that matter. Their sphere of influence never moves, and the only Ur-Quan encountered outside of their sphere of influence is the one in Vela.
- The Ur-Quan AI never launches fighters against Earthling, a sensible decision given that this ship can just zap them away instantly.
Given these two points, your story is impossible unless you specifically modified the game to make it possible. And beyond that, there are some things that just don't make sense:
- Complaining about the Ur-Quan's fighters, which are so fragile, slow, and simplistic that they're incredibly easy to deal with, especially when coupled with the AI's predictable method of deploying them. All you need is a ship with decent speed and a gun, or a fast ship like the Spathi.
- Complaining about having to fight two ships as if it's a huge amount, when this would be a small fleet.
- Referring to getting the Umgah 'caster as the "beginning". It's not exactly late in the game, but you have to have been allied with the Spathi for quite some time for it to happen.
- Not having any Spathi ships at all, when you've been allied with the Spathi for that long. At the same time, having a weak, slow flagship. Where could you possibly be spending all of your RUs?
I assume this is some kind of joke, but I don't get it. It's not April Fool's day yet.
The Spathi work wonders against both the Ur-Quan and the Kohr-Ah

Chenjesu parts failing? That does not sound canon, as there is no reference to that in-game. Also, I can't remember any reference in SC2/UQM that the Mmrnmhrm parts have to take more pressure.... Was that in SC3, leading tot he Chmmr failing?
It's not Canon in Star Control universe, but in Project 6014 it is. Valid Point. Project 6014 exists for the sake of being an extension, or maybe a fork in the road for the Star Control Universe

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Utwig Dialogue Subtitles Fix?

As I'm sure many of you already know, there are many dialogue/subtitle mismatches (and omissions) throughout the game: for the Ilwrath, Yehat, Dnyarri, Talana, etc.; but most noticeably, the Utwig. Is there some fix for this laying around? PS: Also, is version 8.0 coming out anytime? There's practically no updates anywhere. Never noticed it. But then again, I play with the voices off.

Personally ,I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of SC2 (updating to today's gaming standards) rather than a sequal. A remake could have everything we love ,updated, and still have totally new added content (without getting too carried away). Landing on planets could envolve a "lunar lander" style option. The universe could be gentely scrambled for a unique game experience every time. Many new quests could be added as an addition to the classic game and it's story/timeline. Basicly take what rocks about the existing SC2 and make it better. The story, the universe, the 2D meele, etc...
SC3 is a perfect example of what could go wrong with a sequal and should be avoided at all costs IMO.
I'd rather see a sequel. Changing Star Control II (Reskinning it) feels to me what George Lucas does with the Star Wars series, changing a bit, some good, some bad, but the original is still the best
