err not quite.  This is for changes to CVS.  Like if one person make one change in one file, it'll send you an email.  What I was looking for, abeit in the most half-assed way possible, was a way to receive updates when a minor or major file release is made.  For UQM, that means 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, etc.  I'm going to appologize in advance for not looking this up further today

I believe when a new file release is posted on sourceforge, one of the options is to send out a mass email to interested parties.  I'm assuming whomever posts file releases follows such a procedure.  As for how to get on that list, dunno, poke around on the uqm sourceforge page and look for such a link (you'll probably have to log in).

1.What kind of poster you are
Here, uh not much, we'll assume we're talking about TW as well.  Lurker mostly, somewhat helpful, somewhat of a "cheerleader," lol.  I check TW daily.  I've taken a more "meta" approach to these projects, working on my own with the editor and treating TW as one solid mass with CVS, as opposed to getting into the nitty-gritty details.  Very long winded in any case Smiley

2. Best moment in SC2
(WARNING: SPOILER) When trademaster Reddish talks about ancient history, only to reveal that the historical facts are actually current events, and that the main character has a role in all of it.  This was the moment when everything in the game came together.  

3. Favourite book ever (one or several)
Douglas Adams.  lol O'Reilly book and textbooks, that's all I seem to read these days Smiley

4. One hobby
Reading gaming articles.  I think I've read every article on Gamasutra in the past year.

5. What you are/want to become in the real world.
5 year plan: Game programmer, working on AAA games that break genres (almost a contradiction these days Sad  )
30 year plan: Lead programmer on something I'm passionate about.  Owner of my own company.  Having a really cool watch that's more functional than attractive.

6. A fun fact about yourselves. [sic -- consider "yourself"]
I'm disturbingly focussed on getting into the gaming industry.  Hmm... fun...  I ascended in NetHack for the first time in November.  I tend to put everything into terms of NetHack or D&D, much to the shagrin of some of my friends who have never played either Smiley  I was a cheerleader in high school.  I also played football, but not at the same time.  I play three types of brass instruments (all musical, none of which involves the knuckles directly... you know, brass knuckles?).  

7. Anything else that feels valid and important
I spell colour with a U.  Why is it that every API spells things using amercian english?  I used to #define Colour Color to use international spelling as a rule in high school.  I have taken a martial art called Seikido, which combines Aikido and Tae Kwon Do.

I mean we could post about getting the cloaking device, and resurrecting the Taalo to get the Precursor Mauler Cannon for your ship, and how to get the resurrection device from the Pkunk, but who would want to see that?

Hey culture, let me know if you get somewhere with this.  I might use it as a starting point for the editor.  I've talked with someone about this on aim... was it you?  

anyhow the approach I'd take is to gently butcher the uqm code to generate and dump to file a list of every planet and star, as well as each's parameters.

Howdy, I'm new to this forum as well.  Welcome to us both Smiley

I've been working on a side project, Star System Editor, for a good while now.  It's written in Java.  The goal is to be able to edit star systems, manipulating things like stars, planets, and moons, and export in an easily read format.  It'll likely be open source soon, so if you don't like the output format or want to add another type of cestial object to edit, you should be able to without problem.  Hopefully, you'll be able to place things like ships, starbases, comets, and dust clouds; and be able to edit each of their attributes.
