I loved using the Thraddash against all ships (well, except for the Utwig and Kohr-ah). It could run quickly using it's afterburners, and it's bullet was pretty long-ranged and could withstand 2 hits, meaning that it could get past even the Avatar's defenses... It makes for long-drawn out games, though; I suspect some of my wins were because my opponent gave up.

#12 plane crash riddle Heh, cute. Well, I guess I'll be nice and give a hint in the ounce/pound caper. Hint for #8: different systems of measurement. Here's an old riddle I remember... #13: A man is dead, shot in the belly around a table with fifty-two Bicycles on it. What happened?

As for the "ounce" question, there are some other theories I'd like to put forward. An "ounce" can also be defined as a "small amount of matter" or "an atom of". Using the first, we wouldn't know the answer. Using the atom approach, I think we could assume the gold atom would weigh more. However, if we were in a zero gravity environment, neither would have any weight. Which would seem appropriate for a UQM forum. Well, points for creativity, but the ounce & pound questions assume the usual gravity and non-atom masses. For Terminator's riddles, I'm not sure, but I think I've heard a version of #9: The man was in some sort of failing aerial vehicle, and the passengers needed to reduce the weight of the aircraft (they got rid of their clothes first, but it wasn't enough). They drew straws, and the unlucky fellow drew the short one and had to jump. However, I think that Zeep-Eeep's answer is a better one... Never heard of #10, but could it be: Romeo and Juliet were frozen in a glass container? Glass can shatter when frozen, but the ice has since melted...#11 we already have a variation of in #3.

That's the right answer, Zeep-Eeep! I guess that one was a bit simple, though. I'm curious to see people try #6, though. As for your riddle, I thought it was "humidity", but that seemed too obvious... Here's an old trick question: #8: Which weighs more, an ounce of feathers or an ounce of gold?

Oops, those answers are now hidden. That's the answer to the coin riddle. Too bad I actually don't have coins like that... might be able to do some neat "magic" tricks with them... About the prisoner riddle... I don't think so, I've never heard of cartalk. Thanks for not revealing the answer, though- it's usually good for a few pages of guessing... How 'bout this one... it's very easy, so y'all don't answer unless you're actually guessing. Technically, it's not even a riddle, but meh, here goes... #7: Red-green color blindness is a condition where a person cannot distinguish the colors red and green from each other. Now, stoplights have both green and red lights. A red-green color blind person cannot distinguish between these colors, yet they can apply for driver's licenses like everyone else. Why is this the case?

Oooh, riddles! This should be fun!
Answers: #3: "Which way to your house?" The truthteller will tell you the way to his home, the liar will tell you the way to the city of truth.
#4: Both 100 pounders cross in the boat, one returns and the other remains on the far bank. Then the 200 pounder crosses alone, then the 100 pounder on the far bank returns with the boat. Finally, both 100 pounders cross to finish the river crossing.
How about these riddles? The first is pretty simple, but the second is fairly tough!
#5: You have 9 coins, 8 weigh the same amount, but the 9th weighs slightly more. All appear the same, so visual examination yields no differences. You have a scale, but can only use it twice. How would you go about separating the heavier coin from the others?
#6: There are 100 prisoners held in prison. There are 99 regular cells, and 1 "special" cell. The regular cells are nondescript, and are exactly the same. The "special" cell, however, contains a light that can be switched on an off by the prisoner in it. Every day, the jailers randomly assign rooms to the prisoners. Aside from the light, there are no other means of possible communication between the prisoners (no Morse code, no writing on the walls, the light cannot be seen from other cells, etc.)
Now the jailers, having a sadistic streak, make a challenge. If a prisoner can tell the jailers, with certainty, exactly which day each prisoner has been to the "special" cell at least once, all the prisoners can all go free. The jailers give the prisoners an hour to formulate a plan, then cart them off to their cells.
After many days, the jailers are surprised when a prisoner correctly informs them that every prisoner has been in the "special" cell at least once. Shocked, the guards follow their word and release all the prisoners. How did the prisoners know when each of them had visited the "special" cell at least once?
EDIT- Hidey-ho for the answers...

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Escape Velocity

Actually, Ambrosia Software came out with three: Escape Velocity, Escape Velocity: Override, and Escape Velocity: Nova. EV: Nova was also ported to Windows, so you play that one. Further, EV and EV: O were made into plug-ins (with Ambrosia's blessing) for EV: N, so you can play all three with the last incarnation. For those of you who don't know, Ambrosia is a shareware company; you can try their games (the later ones have some crippling, but the essence of the game remains) before purchasing them. Yes, it is a fun game, sort of like Wing Commander: Privateer, except with an overhead view. Can't even begin to tell you how many hours I've wasted on those games...
