The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Starbase Café / Re: Same Sex Marriage

Well, by that logic, we can oppress, genocide, enslave, etc. any minority if the majority is for it. Democracy is (or should be) a system to give ALL people equal rights. If we are taking away the right to marriage, we are going against democracy itself. So, in my opinion, any true democracy should allow homosexuals to marry.

I'm rather bewildered at how someone can be against same sex marriage, personally. In what way would it affect anyone of the straight orientation? At worst, they'd be uncomfortable about the homosexuals being more open. And we're living in a democracy, so we must therefore protect the rights of the minority. I have a feeling that people opposed to this are simply afraid that they're going to catch TEH GHEY!!!11four

Even tho SC3's answers for some questions of SC2 are considerd crap by most fans, it is offical, as much as I'd like to think it isn't.
Depends on your definition of "official". Yes, it was a published sequel, but it was not created by the original creators of Star Control. Plus it was crap.

On a side note, I just finished the 10th book in Robert Jordans "Wheel of Time" series, and that was a huge disappointment. Not that the last 4 or so books have been great, but this one was really rock bottom... Oh, great. I just got that one. Hmmph.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Ideas for "Ur-quan masters 2" engine

What would you want "Ur-quan masters 2" engine to be like? UQM 2? I didn't think we were done #1... Would you want it to be a carbon copy of sc2? Well, SC2 seems to be fairly well represented in UQM. I don't think we need another one exactly the same... Would you want to be a boarding marine in a first person shooter? A neat idea, but, when were there ever marines (except, of course, for the Orz) in SC2? Would you want to be a fighter for the Ur-Quan in a 3d space fighter game? Like a Freespace 2-type engine? That might be fun. Would you want to control a huge number earthling cruisers in a 3d RTS like homeworld? Yechh... Sorry, I have this thing against RTSs Would you want to fight against other players in a massively multiplayer melee engine where you can upgrade your ship? See above, replacing RTSs with MMORPGs. Would you want to wage war in a game similar to master of Orion? Erm, like Star Control 1? Never having played MoO (though I'd like to). I think that's what you mean. Or do you want something else? Meh. I don't really care. It would be nice to have a proper remake of SC3, but I don't think it's going to happen.

This trip also assumes that nobody notices this sphere of influence change (keep in mind the map automatically told you of any SOI changes, and it didn't strike me as the product of superior Precursor technology) and does something to stop it... or that there aren't other races getting involved. Either way, in the amount of time it would take the Druuge to get over there (at Druuge speed, what, three, four months?) other races would very likely have some kind of operations going and the Druuge would be forced to compete with fewer finished resources (ships, equipment) and no realistic way of getting needed resources in a timely manner. Uh, but the suggestion was that only a few ships would be sent, making it a more 'covert' mining operation.

Oatworm: You mentioned hostile VUX space, and I don't think the Quans would spare ANY races. Therefore, I believe the forces remaining with the Hierarchy at the end of SC2\UQM would be intelligent enough to see that they would have to join the NAFS, flee their homeworlds, or be obliterated entirely. I'd imagine most would join the NAFS, giving a bit more power to the force, but would it be enough to defeat the combined forces of Quan and Quan?
