62  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Whats the deal with the Androsynth?(spoilers) on: August 11, 2003, 07:47:06 pm
Seems to me as though my version makes more sense:

Quote: "HE DID A LOT OF DAMAGE TO THE ANDROSYNTH'S COMPUTER BEFORE WE STOPPED HIM, AND I GUESS HE MUST HAVE HURT HIMSELF IN THE PROCESS. HE'S CUT UP PRETTY BADLY. YOU KNOW, IT'S STRANGE, HE MUST HAVE HURT HIMSELF WORSE THAN I THOUGHT. NOW, WHEN I LOOK AT HIM, IT SEEMS LIKE HE HAS EVEN MORE CUTS THAN JUST A FEW MINUTES AGO, AND BOY, IS HE SCREAMING! "

The scientest fellow on the planet was obviously being killed by one of the seminvisible ghost/energy things that did in the androsinth. I don't see what that has to do with the orz.
Seems to me the reason the Orz attack you if you ask to many questions about the Androsinth is for the good of your species because - as demonstrated by the incident with the with the scientist and as the Arilou say later on - if you find out to much about the ghost/energy creatures then they can *smell*, ahem, I mean sense you and then they would kill you and likely move on to the rest of your species and the Orz figure that if you are so persistently interested in getting the information that if they don't kill you, you will find out some other way other way of geting the information and get yourself and everything around / related to you killed and destroyed.
So why is it that everyone thinks the Orz are evil??

Also even though the Arilou and the Orz seem to have a long and unfriendly past the Arilou never acturly say the Orz did in the Androsinth. I think the reason the Arilou warn you to be wary of the Orz is because the Orz being some kind of linked "super" organism and as such likly have little regard for individual life.

One of the stars at the top left corner of the map. You have to go to one of the planets but it's not an ordinary planet. It's a type of planet that never has any minerals on it. It's a type of planet that you can't even land on becaus it has no solid ground.
64  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Problems with the game? on: August 10, 2003, 01:07:42 am
I reacently started playing sc1 and I noticed that in the meele mode there were severel areas that the gfx and ai were better than the ur-quan masters.
(1) There is a way to exploit the ai in the ur-quan masters so that an earthling cruser can beat a dreadnought 75% of the time. The way you do it is this: it only works if you warp in a ways away from the ur-quan, when the game starts, start heading toward the bottom or top of the screen (which ever is farther away from the dreadnought and closest to you) and for some reason the screen will keep expanding even though the dreadnought should be going faster than you. After a few moments the dreadnought will turn around and start heading away from you toward the edge of the screen thats closest to it. At this point you want to IMMEDATLY turn around and begin thrusting toward the dreadnought. The dreadnought will head off the the edge of the screen and the screen will flip and, walah, you will be moving away from the dreadnought and the screen will be expanding and pretty soon the dreadnought will turn around and you will turn around and begin thrusting and you can keep this ad-infinitem. Fire off some nukes during it and you got yourself a fried ur-quan.
(2)There about ten times as many frames of animation in the captain portraits in sc1 vs the ur-quan masters which just switches between 2 pictures, an on picture and an off picture. In sc1 on the other hand the stuff in between is animated as well.
(3)Small objects in the ur-quan masters apperently come equiped with cloaking devices that work only from when viewed from certain angles. Items with this ability are as follows: parts of the Yehat shield are always invisible, Yehat gun shots are invisible about a quarter of the time and finally ur-quan fighters are invisible about a third of the time (this is by far the most annoying for instance you are flying a Syreen ship verses a dreadnought and are flying through an area of space that looks perfectly safe and suddenly you notice your crew dropping rappidly and small white lines appearing beside your ship).

Thanks! I got it working good! Of course now I want your help with something else Roll Eyes How do I get sc3 to work right on a windows xp computer? The program starts up fine and apperantly accepts mouse commands but the display is all couropeted with the gfx streached out and broken up into little peices that are strewn around the screen. I don't think the program is frozen because by clicking randomly around the screen I found that if you click in the bottom right hand corner the program shuts down (rather a good thing I found that out  because closing the program any other way crashes my computer to a blue screen of death). I tried dosbox on it but it just crashes right away. Any help would be appreaceated!

I downloaded sc1 the other day off an abandonware site and for some reason it acturly worked under win xp Shocked . Someone had even included a cracked exe file so I didn't have to answer the copy protection guys questions (by the way the original exe file was there and I tried to answer his questions using your list of answers but whenever I typed in the answer you had listed to his question he said it was wrong. Also the alien jibberish part of his question commonly was different than what you had listed.). Anyway the question I had was; is the meele supposed to be that slow? If I had to estimate the frame rate I'd say it was between 1 and 3 a second Tongue .The gfx are good (infact they seem better than sc2 Shocked ) but it's so slow and choppy as to be unplayable. Any help would be apreaceted.
