The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: My take on Stardock

Sheesh, the amount of people who only joined the UQM forums to circlejerk on the settlement case disturbs me. Any of you only-one-post-histories want to talk about UQM, HD-Mod, HD-Remix, UQM-Extended, or the MegaMod? How about the new custom border system I've been cooking up to make modding easier? Or has the UQM forums become the sister site to the subreddit where the only discussion that gets any traction is bitching about Stardock? For most of us, nothing much has happened for many years and this is the only news. I am not disparaging your work. The bulk of our visitors in the past were people new to the series trying UQM at a friend's recommendation, or using it to re-play SC2 one more time. Mods and other fan content appeal to only a fraction of the visitors, and most of the ones who do try other things don't stick around long. I had to get used to this too back when #uqm-arena was semi-active. Net melee was very, very niche.

The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Support Dogar and Kazon, legal defense fund is up!

They just crossed 10k in donations. Anyone want to guess what value the Frungy Defense Fund will reach before donations close? I'm imagining a floor of 25k and a ceiling of 250k here. But I really don't feel good about donating to support a legal team when early posts on their own board seemed to indicate that they expected and even wanted a legal battle. That's fair if you feel that way. Personally, as a die-hard fan of the game that's beyond pissed off at Stardock, it was an easy choice for me to join in.

The Melnorme Trader. After a zillion bouts of net melee, it feels like the ship with the most depth. Fights when playing as (or against) Melnorme are almost always varied and interesting.
AI Trader ships aren't very much fun to fight, on the other hand. The bot has crackerjack aim but it's easy to fake out, and it maneuvers foolishly. Consequently, most people reading this won't be able to relate to my appreciation of this ship.

Stardock did a top-down space game in the 90s called Stellar Frontier. I think it was more of a no-story ship-to-ship combat game like Subspace, but that's another very good name for a Star Control-alike. Regardless, I doubt their current game's name will change no matter how everything else shakes out.

Is a timetable known, or is the court waiting for the back and forth of letters to end? The settlement conference is on May 14, 2018. Odds aren't high, but things could end right there. The actual court case is set to take place during June 2019. So this unpleasant dispute is probably going to be up in the air for a while.
