heh... for a moment when you were saying "home base" I thought you meant that she would do the same retrofitting that commander whatshisname did to the station at Earth, so you could outfit your ship at betelgeuse, which is much more centralized...

Heh, same here.

It would be cool to be able to do some limited things (buying/selling fuel, analyzing items) at the Syreen starbase. Feature for version 2.0, perhaps? Smiley
2  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Gameplay Questions on: January 15, 2003, 09:41:35 am
I've never seen the two Ur-Quan races duking it out; but, with the exception of the ZFP's homeworld, I only visited about six or seven systems in Ur-Quan territory each game. (And the same ones, too.)

I think TPNF has videos of both the intro and ending 3DO sequences. Should be easy downloads if you have broadband, and it is still gettable with dial-up.

Colonization... Now there is a great game that needs to be remade or ported.  All this talk of it makes me want to dust it off and see if I can get it working on my XP machine  Cool

Never played Colonization, but it sounds fun. There's a remake in the works at http://www.civgaming.net/col2/ Smiley

Ooh... I can actually get sound for the first time in a while!

<s>It doesn't seem to pass /g and /s parameters to the game, though, and I need /g:bios cuz the graphics go screwy. Sad How do you get it to take those parameters?</s>

NM; got it working through the config file.

SC2 is back! Yay! Smiley

I recognize it too. You are among sci-fi fans, after all. Smiley

Serenity's a good a name. Might use it once I get UQM.

UQM (Of course)
Quest for Glory 1-5 (don't play it any more, but it's very fun the first few times through the series)
Caesar 3 (and hopefully the other ancient citybuilders; haven't tried 'em yet)
Civilization 3
X-Wing Alliance

Fanfic has ruined me; I'm almost always Paul Ford of the Vindicator. Smiley

I used to use Precursor a lot too.
9  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Mycon troubles on: January 05, 2003, 09:07:09 pm
You need to send your flagship into the battle, then warp out. That will return you to the Epsilon Scorpii system; you might have to fight through some Mycon patrols, but at least those aren't endless. Smiley

Since this is based on the 3DO version, I don't know what the warp-out command is, but I bet there's a readme or something that'll tell you.
10  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Low-bandwidth version? on: January 04, 2003, 03:35:01 am
I was wondering if there'll eventually be a silent, no-voice version for dialup connections. I know two versions are probably not feasible while bugs are still being squashed, but are there any plans for a small version after 1.0 is reached?

After years of secrecy, I can finally reveal my 1337 secrets for getting established in SC2 as quickly as possible.

I wouldn't call myself "leet", but in case anyone is looking in this thread for early game RU strategies, I recommend searching for a star in the Tauri group after mining Sol and some surrounding systems. (I forget the specific Tauri star, but I think it's white; it's been a while since I played, as trying to get this remake on a dial-up would be insane.) It has several planets with exotic minerals (sans heavy firestorms, unlike Alpha Centauri) and an Auric world rich in precious metals, and also biologicals you can sell to the Melnorme.

My early game drill is now to mine the Sol system, get some minerals from surrounding systems (avoiding dangerous mining in A Centauri) to get RU for more fuel, and then head to this Tauri system. I never have trouble with RU after that, and the Auric world can usually give me enough bio data to get a Melnorme tech.

The Ur-Quan fighters are the ONLY reason I install a point defense module.

That effectively eliminates one of their most deadly attacks.  They don't launch ANY.  So I only have one weapon to deal with, piece of cake.

Yep, same here.

PD also prevents the Orz from launching marines. So if you tick off the Orz, they make good RU hunting late game when your flagship's outfitted.
