1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Purchasing Groombridge Log? on: April 06, 2019, 06:07:38 pm
8 is a good point. Unfortunately I learned an important lesson too late:

You should never use specific measures in stories like this - unless you have the entire physics system thought out really well all the way. It was a mistake to mention that the flight took 10 minutes. For consistency, everything would then have to be calibrated against that one measure. If I were to write it again, I would leave out all exact times like that.

Now that we're on the topic... (!)

Beta reading would definitely have helped. The time for that was over six years ago, though.

When I started writing Groombridge Log, it wasn't that serious yet. I had zero experience. It got serious sometime during the project. I don't remember when exactly.

Coincidentally, I read the last chapter of Eternal Doctrine yesterday, for fun. The quality was a lot better than in the first chapter of Groombridge Log - which shouldn't surprise anyone. I'm sure all writers feel the same way when reading their early works.

Also, I feel a strong urge to respond to your points (all eight of them) !

1) agreed
2) agreed
3) agreed, but the story required it
4) disagreed! I disagree on all technology-related critizism on stories set out far in the future
5) I don't remember the details. There probably was no ulterior motive. So - agreed
6) no reason. There probably are more males overall. I don't see a problem.
7) I never thought of it like that. But again: the story required it
8 In the original story it was simply a gameplay thing that the Ilwrath told about their malfunctioning cloaking device. I tried to think of how that fight could really have panned out.

In the beginning I was too focused on following the original story as closely as possible. It took some time until I found the courage to take more liberties.

I have no information on Australian local ebook systems. In addition to Amazon and Kobo, I know that both Groombridge Log and Eternal Doctrine are available in the Finnish Elisa kirja service. Perhaps there is something similar in Australia? I know that at least Walmart sells them as ebooks.

Since Kindle as a whole is not supported in Finland, I myself have simply created a US Amazon account and purchased everything from there. I don't know if that works for you, though.

No Finnish version available.

There is one guy who is translating it into Russian and the last time I checked he was going on chapter 5. For you Russian natives, here's a link

(Also, if the Russian translator is reading this, I'd like to have a chat with you. Please contact me so we can talk business.)

So, if you really want a Finnish translation, you are free to try to make one yourself.

Goodreads would also be a good place to write a review.

Indeed I'd prefer to have more comments and especially reviews at online book stores. Groombridge Log got four excellent reviews on Amazon, but Eternal Doctrine hasn't got a single one.

If you read Eternal Doctrine, me and the rest of the world would like to hear your opinions.

Indeed Eternal Doctrine is finished! I ask you to check out all relevant information from this blog post I created.

In a nutshell, Star Control 2 novelization consists of two books: Groombridge Log and Eternal Doctrine, written by Tommi Salminen.

If you just want to start reading, here's a direct link to the PDF.

And since you can also buy the book, here's a direct link to Eternal Doctrine in Amazon.

Thank you for attention and please enjoy the story as much as I did.

8  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Eternal Doctrine Part IV on: May 01, 2017, 02:14:31 pm
Little by little the story is nearing its inevitable end. This is not it, though. Part V will be the last one.

Now I have an actual website for this project, including a blog where I plan to write some more or less interesting stuff at least semi-regularly. This is the first "release" I've done since setting up the webpage so I'm still figuring out how to deliver the news. My first attempt is to direct people to a blog post discussing the release, so that's where I'm directign you now:

Blog post regarding the release of Eternal Doctrine Part IV

Discussion is very welcome, especially on the comments of the blog post.

And since this is a special place (as is the PoNaF forum), I will also give you the direct link if you just want to start reading right away:

You're living my dream, Death 999... I still have to wait a few years until my first child is old enough for the same project.

Groombridge Log is still available in Amazon. If you can't see it there, it must be a regional issue of some sort that is outside my control.

Even here in Finland the book can be ordered from most online book stores.

One major store is also the iBook Store.

Some israeli people have had the same issue and they have been able to buy it from http://www.bookdepository.com/

One possibility would be to buy it directly from the publisher's online store: http://www.bod.fi/kirja/tommi-salminen/groombridge-log/9789523186804.html
Although, I don't know if an English version of that page exists.

Let me know if none of these work for you.

There is nothing you can do. They will stay mad at you forever.

Those are great, Vee-R, especially the Spathi. Why haven't I seen these before?
13  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Eternal Doctrine part III on: October 07, 2016, 06:26:50 pm
Only Groombridge Log is available for purchase at the moment. Eternal Doctrine will be as well when it is finished.

About profitability... So far I have barely been able to break even.
14  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Eternal Doctrine part III on: September 30, 2016, 09:05:43 pm
It took me over a year, but the next five chapters of the story are finally done.

Here's the link:

Let's all root for the New Alliance of Free Stars (or for the Ur-Quan Hierarchy, if that's your cup of tea) and hope they can bring a quick end to the war.

I give you thumbs up for these, Kwayne.
