Wow Arne - Just cruising through for the first time in a while and your definitely one of the best SC artists I've seen. (love the Spathi ship)

When's the Vux beast coming up? Love to see your impression of that.... (or have I missed it?)
2  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Difficulty Settings for Combat? on: July 25, 2005, 11:36:30 pm
Thanks for the advice, I currently have 4 short of max thrusters and about the same for turning jets, in my last encounter with the probe (after clearing out the rubie world's in alpha centurai and buying thrusters Smiley ) I gravity whipped and e-warped out.

Why isn't the cyborg able to beat them?  I sure as hell can't and I can't afford to spend 100 RU's every encounter.  Is there any specific module configuration that will allow the cyborg to not suck?

I wish you could use the vindicator in various settings in the super melee, I realy need to improve my combat skills.

Advice for ship fighting in early game?  Simple - don't.

All I do is pick up Fwiffo, sell the Vindicators guns and strip mine Sol (or close by). That usually gets me enough to get all the thrusters and turning jets so nothing ever catchs up with me again.  If you do fight - use Fwiffo. Played right, he can take out just about every other ship in the game.

I wonder how practical a dyson sphere is EVEN if you could make it.

First: There has to be a better way of collecting energy - even if it means going to other stars. If at the time life can't go to other stars, then what the heck are they doing covering up one of their only means of light and heat?

Second:  (spoken from a person who does not know that much about the sun) How high do sun flares go? Even if there were no sun flares, what is the average degrees of searing heat that far above the sun? (the sphere itself is about ten miles off - max?) Also - what kind of stresses would this structure have to take while its hot? That is a incredible/impossible material.

I could not decide between the Shofixti or the Spathi. Alas - like my nature I choose the spathi.

So what do you do to avoid mining? Leave as little as possible? Use the druuge fuel trick?

*wanders back.....

Hey guys! Nice to be back for a bit - I think I'll be around more often now...

Anyway - nice job slyrendro - what software did you use to make that?

PS - Seems like most of the old regulars are still around - except luki - Has he dropped off the end of the world too or did I miss his post?

To late? Not at all.

I believe the record for the game is october of 55. If you have a maxed out ship, you can probably finish in less than six months. The game won't end (if you just sit in space and don't do the Utwig quest) till 59.

I enjoy Utwig vs. Supox - not only do you break the game-long friendship Tongue - you also play a battle of the nerves with your friend when/if you fire. Its always fine to see them keep twitching over that shield button......  Smiley

Yeah - Alpha Centuri and lots of patience. If you manage to stripmine that place your set for a bit. (lots of reloading...  :-/ )

Also - try the druuge fuel trick which can be done by obtaining a device that they will refuel your ship for. Then load up your ship with lots of fuel tanks, fill 'er up and sell the fuel at starbase. If done properly - you don't need anymore RU in the game really unless you want to make a mosnter out of the vindicator.

Well - There are two main ways of dealing with those probes.

(Mini-spoilers)

1. Go meet a certain someone at pluto. Once you have his ship - you can defeat the probes without any losses as long as you play it right.
That is the only way to do it without extensive traveling.

2. The other way is to visit a few races in the upper-right hand corner of the map - they have a few hints for you.

Also - if you ask the probes the right question - I believe they tell you as well.
11  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Scale on: April 27, 2005, 05:28:47 pm
Even if you put the crew in the center - it would have less, but they would still be flattened against the wall. Besides - then the "center" of the ship most be huge to house alll those people's living quarters. That and the fact that everything not strapped down would risk quite a bang.
12  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Scale on: April 27, 2005, 12:24:02 am
Well - as you said - hyperspace might and is probably quite different when it comes to physics. Obviously the Vind-y cannot spin as fast as in UQM else your crew would look like a pancake against the walls.

This could all be fixed by:

A: Making a really strong ship with G-Force dampers that somehow take the acceleration and null it. (if its possible)

B: Set the auto pilot from hyperspace and simply cruise on in from Hyperspace already facing the correct direction - just hope nobody gave you any bad directions.

C: The ships park in truespace - simply let smaller ships come to you or dispatch them yourself. The "mother" ship simply comes from hyperspace - never moves until it returns to hyperspace.

Hmm... I doubt it - I think we could pick up that personality after a few months if the person posted regularly - maybe not though.....

welll.....with other things the spathi say there ship can hold 30....does this mean that fwiffo is 1,000 spathi?

Well.... It DOES fit their type to always insure that it won't happen to them - just the person(s) next to them. Therefore fwiffo was just a clone to get shot first at the window screen... The REAL fwiffo was in the far back cowering. Wink

Does anyone know how big Vela II is? Because if so, it might be a little easier to caculate - I thought I heard it somewhere - I could be wrong. Anyway the Vindy is larger than our moon - or at least should be.
