What we need is a game that uses procedural generation! Black Sky is going to use it, I think.  It's not a SC/UQM sequel though. They need another programmer unfortunately, so it might be a long while until the game is finished. Infinity is going to use it, but that might not be out for a while either, and the main version is an MMO (also not a Star Control game though). Someone on here made a game that seemed like it would be great. It was called  Aftermath. Unfortunately,  the project just kinda died off.  I think it was meant to be a Star Control-based game too.... possibly a sequel. 

I fully support this! Stardock should be able to make something good! I hope they keep the exploration element intact. Not too many games seem to have that quality! We can't go to other star systems in real life, so I very much want to at least be able to do so in a video game!  I just hope it's not PC only and beyond what my computer can handle. Maybe I'll have a new computer by then though.

Oh.... crap.... I kinda also hope it doesn't just end up being some MMO! I hate those because it's like a drug.... they get you addicted, then you're paying them for as long as you play. Unless the fee isn't bad. I wouldn't mind paying $25 a year, but most MMOs are quite a bit more than that.

Yeah, I'm really hoping it doesn't work out. We don't want to end up with the same broadband situation as Australia. If it does work, then it will spread to other places and other ISPs would start doing the same thing.

Why is this bad....? You get less for your money! And you could end up paying a lot more, especially if you visit YouTube or use  iTunes a lot.  Not to mention online gaming....   

The first tier, at $29.95 monthly, will be a relatively slow 768 kilobits per second with a 5GB monthly cap, while a plan at $54.90 per month will offer 15 megabits per second and a 40GB cap.

Both downloads and uploads count toward the monthly total. Overages will be charged at $1 a gigabyte.

Other ISPs don't do this in the USA. This kind of crap happens in other countries, but that doesn't make it right. It shouldn't be happening there either, but at least this kind of thing hasn't taken hold here yet, so it's not too late. Let's keep it out of the USA by protesting Time Warner as an ISP. If you have Time Warner internet, then get rid of it. Find a new ISP, even though you're not a new customer. If you're looking for broadband, then avoid Time Warner! Spread this around! People need to know about it! 

Comcast is planning a bandwidth cap too, which is also annoying, but at least it's a pretty reasonable 250 gigabytes.

That might be a problem for us, but I don't think it would be a huge problem for a civilization with more advanced technology. Better technology could dramatically decrease deceleration times.

Good point.  Why wouldn't methane be out there? As you said, this just proves that they can detect that fact. I think I was confused about what the significance of this find  was.... but I knew that significance was there somewhere!

Maybe this same thing will happen soon, only with alien life, rather than methane. Astronomers predict we'll discover alien life somehow in the next few decades. After all, why wouldn't there be life out there?

Yep, true. There may be no life in that system at all. But it proves that methane is out there... which I guess isn't too much of a surprise. Nice to have it confirmed, though!

Panspermia just became a MUCH stronger theory recently. Scientists have found extremely high levels of amino acids in two different meteorites. I don't see why this couldn't have happened on other planets in our galaxy and in other galaxies too!

NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope have discovered large amounts of simple organic gases and water vapor in a possible planet-forming region around an infant star, along with evidence that these molecules were created there. They've also found water in the same zone around two other young stars.

I don't know, but copyright laws need a MAJOR overhaul.  There's a problem when people have a copyright on an ancient song (the Happy Birthday song) and when a company screws something up because they want to do things their own stupid way (Star Control III) Of course, if there were an overhaul, then it's possible that things could end up being even worse....

There's a strong possibility that one of the 3 closest stars, Alpha Centauri B,  could have a planet very similar to Earth.
