1  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Adding missing text vote! on: July 17, 2008, 12:53:37 am
Just wondering if this is any closer to being resolved.  I really would like to see that missing text back in the game one way or another.  Star Control forever!
2  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Plausibly-SC2-Related Upcoming Event (w/ Bill Nye) on: May 13, 2003, 09:37:53 am
Hey everyone,

I don't know how relevant most would consider this to be, but I'm going to feature the original Star Control 2 Hyperspace theme in the music setlist for the intermission of an upcoming event.  Star Control 2 fans will likely be interested in the subject matter too (especially those who actually live within driving distance of Los Angeles).  This will be a big event, expected attendance: 900.  Here's the scoop:

The UCLA AstroBiology Society presents:

Life in the Universe: an Astrobiology Symposium!

Co-sponsored by The Planetary Society, the NASA Astrobiology Institute, and the Center for the Study of Evolution and the Origin of Life (CSEOL).

our website: http://www.studentgroups.ucla.edu/abs/

As defined by NASA, astrobiology is an interdisciplinary endeavor to answer the following three questions:
-How does life begin and evolve?
-Is there life elsewhere in the universe?
-What is the future of life, on Earth and beyond?

Come learn more at this exciting event, featuring keynote speakers Bill Nye the Science Guy, and Dr. Jill Tarter, Director of Research at SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence).  Bill Nye will give an overview on astrobiology, while Jill Tarter will focus on looking for traces of intelligent life in the galaxy.  An intermission between the two speakers will feature hands-on educational displays and free refreshments.

Directions
1.  Take 405 (San Diego Freeway) to Wilshire Blvd. East
2.  Travel east three blocks to Westwood Blvd.
3.  Turn Left on Westwood Blvd.

3  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Most Obscure Bit of Dialogue and/or Detail? on: February 13, 2003, 10:00:07 am
Hey these are great!  I've never heard most of them!  Thanks all
4  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: Fastest Ship in SC2? on: December 16, 2002, 03:30:15 pm
Hm, yeah I guess it depends on exactly what question you ask.  Fastets point-to-point is potentialy Arilou.  Fastest max normal forward thrust I guess would be Pkunk.  Fastest 'special' velocity would I suppose be Umgah.  Fastest sustainable special velocity would be Druuge?
5  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Most Obscure Bit of Dialogue and/or Detail? on: December 15, 2002, 10:51:42 am
I think it'd be neat to share experience as far as really obscure bits of dialogue and/or details in SC2.  In some other threads I've read I noticed someone mentioned sort of an outtake in the spoken version of some Druuge line, and also something about the Druuge commenting on you ripping them off if you pull some fuel-tank-filling trick.

I'd like to hear other interesting/funny bits from throughout the game that perhaps not many people would be likely to stumble upon.  And maybe if you could share tips without making it a total spoiler, it'd be more fun for others to go off and try to find the things on their own.

Maybe the fine folks working on the re-release might even stumble upon some bit of dialogue in the code that you can't actually ever reach in the game (through some error)!  Wouldn't that be something?
6  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Fastest Ship in SC2? on: December 15, 2002, 10:44:05 am
Question: what is the fastest ship in Star Control 2 (hypermelee included)?

We all know the Pkunk Fury is very fast.  But I seem to remember the Slylandro Probe contending with if not beating the Fury in speed.  And also, I'm not sure where the Androsynth Guardian falls as far as speed, when it's in comet mode.

So those are three obvious contendors, but I believe that the Druuge Mauler is actually probably capable of attaining the highest velocity out of any ship in the game.  Just fire a couple of shots in succession and the accumulated recoil will have you flying across the screen like nobody's business!  Of course, you can't possibly maneuver while going that fast so it's not necessarily useful.

Can anyone confirm what the fastest ship is?
7  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / General UQM Discussion / Re: This has been bugging me for YEARS ! on: December 10, 2002, 11:55:32 am
Um, did eveyrone else read the same post that I just did?

First off, the similarities between SC2 and the story of that guy who says he met aliens are no greater than those between the guy's story and a great many other scifi stories, as I believe others have mentioned.

Second, this UFO stuff is just a total load of BS!  I'm sorry to be so blunt, but go get an education and acquire some critical thinking skills, for pete sake.  Or if you want quicker results, read something by Carl Sagan, like "Demon Haunted World."
8  The Ur-Quan Masters Re-Release / Technical Issues / Mac Version(s)? on: December 02, 2002, 03:38:18 am
Okay, Meep-eep informed me that there will certainly be a Mac OS X version in the final release and for other releases too, but that a Mac OS 9 version may be problematic.  This is fine by me since I'm lucky enough to have OS X, but I couldn't find a Mac OS X version in the alpha download area!

Did I miss it?  Is it not there?  Or maybe I need to download the source code and compile it?  Please help!

thanks
